Over six months later, The Super Mario Bros. Movie is out, and Nintendo's Japanese Twitter account announced that they're officially changing his Japanese name to "Spike" from now on and it will reflected in the Japanese release of the movie (I don't feel fully comfortable sharing his original Japanese name here, look it up if your curious). Although speaking of the movie... ... *SPOILERS* ... Spike's role is minor, but kind of reflects his arc in the games, starting out as a petty jerk then eventually coming around to the Mario Brothers in the end, even leading the crowd in cheering for them after the climax. Not sure if the writers were aware of Spike's kind-hearted nature in Mobile Golf, but I'm glad it worked out that way in the end.
imagine if he become a playable character in the next Smash Bros Game? Waluigi will die in PTSD of him STILL not becoming a character for the 666th time. lol

In the intro of Wrecking Crew '98, it's stated that the Magic Hammer Mario uses is "the same one he used as part of the Wrecking Crew", possibly meaning you get that Magic Hammer when you apply for the team. (And you may also get to keep it when you stop working there.) it's a cool headcanon, but i personally wouldn't count on it being the same hammer.
I really like Forman spike and the other old arcade mario characters. I hope Stanly makes a cameo.
