Gambling is out of control and almost every outlet talking about sports, including this channel is benefiting from it. It's bad for sports and bad for society. Having gambling be legal is one thing. Having it be promoted EVERYWHERE is ridiculous. This will end careers and long term hurt sports in general if some serious regulations aren't put on all these sports books
i absolutely agree with this comment
The nba does it on purpose, look at lakers games refs give the +10 free throws
i think it should be treated like smoking in regards to advertising. Maybe the next generation will look back and laugh when they see old casino commercials, like we do about old smoking ads.
Agreed, but if it's legal, then this is what you get. I think it was better when it was legal only in a few select places. And, obviously, leagues shouldn't be getting paid by gambling companies. If everyone else gets paid by gambling companies - okay. The league itself, obvious conflict of interest.

Sports betting is ruining the NBA.

Sports betting has always been apart of the NBA lol. Especially in the past where it was easier to get away with.
@@emilfrederiksen.1622 yeah but they dont have apps that are easily accessible plus nba and nba podcasts like Gil are being sponsored by FanDuel and Prizepicks

Gambling will eventually blow up in the these sports leagues face. This is only the beginning and people are already very suspicious that they are corrupt beyond repair.
Can you explain more?
@@Truthman45 More of these occurrences will happen and public perception of these leagues will plummet. In the end, they will either turn into a corrupt league catering towards degenerate gamblers, or salvage their integrity and appeal to actual sports fans whose loyalty lasts a lifetime rather than who they decided to throw money on that evening. At a minimum, prop betting needs to be banned. It’s much more difficult to corrupt the outcome of an entire game. One reason Boxing lost its status as a sport was obvious and blatant corruption because the sport catered to gamblers and not actual boxing fans.

A correction: Othani is not the Wemby of the MLB, he's at least the Jokiç of the MLB.
Excellent video as always! I'm less concerned with fringe players fixing games, than referees fixing games, because they will never make what players make, and can affect the pace and the outcome of the game in subtle ways throughout the course of the game. The danger of fixing elements of the game is amplified by the fact that you can bet on almost anything throughout the game, so individual things like the over/under for a quarter, or a player prop for a half could be manipulated without really standing out.
The NBA already gives mandates on what it wants officials to call/not call, but in the last month we've seen games where the totals ranged from 152 (Sixers 79, Knicks 73) to 295 (Lakers 150, Pacers 145 (no OT)), that seems like an extremely wide range, and can't be solely due to the energy levels of the respective teams.
The fact is that NBA games (and other sports as well) have gotten significantly weirder since gambling was legalized and became more prevalent. The microscope on referees has intensified, the injury reports started resembling those of the NFL and the players have started taking days off for load management to the point where the NBA had to put into effect rules to keep them from sitting out too many. We've seen unexpected late scratches of players, and games where half the team is listed as DTD so you have no idea how many key players will be out.
You don't have to rig every play to rig a game against too evenly matched teams. Just a couple of little calls here and there can make the difference, and swing the odds and momentum in the favor of one over another,
Love the use of footage from The Sting for the crimmy parts
My dad was a gambling addict, it almost ruined our family and we ended up moving from the city to a more rural area when I was very young to escape the loansharks and temptations of gambling dens. He managed to recover, but removing the ability to gamble was key
You do realize that you can’t actually remove the ability for someone to gamble, right? If your dad stopped, it’s because he developed the discipline he needed to stop. Where there’s a will to gamble, a person will find a way.
@@enohp660 That was the whole point, you can't remove someone's ability to gamble now because its gamified on their phone, back then you had to be in close proximity to gambling dens, bookies, loansharks and casinos to gamble, thus moving to a place without those things facilitated recovery. Your logic is pretty flawed, that's like telling an opiate addict that moving to a secluded cabin with no dealers around won't help them, they just need to "cultivate discipline". These addictions alter your brain chemistry, I grew up on the West Coast and there isnt a recovered addict in the world that won't tell you that you need a change of scenery as well as a change of mindset to recover, thats why online betting apps are so dangerous

@@Gurenn83 Literally lol
Be careful, the left might try and cancel you.
I remember Dejounte Murray had a discount on his points on Prizepicks on St patty’s day. He went over and I won but how he hit the over on his points prop was just so suspicious. Literally the hawks were up and they took all the starters out besides Murray and he hit his point prop in garbage time with two free throws then he got a personal foul and finally got subbed out right after hitting those free throws. Earlier in the day they released a Jokic and Rozier discount. Jokic was one of the three that didn’t hit their over on those discounts, and to me my lil theory is if murray didn’t hit his over, a lot of people would delete that app so they def made a call before or during the game to make sure he went over and they also like that viewership money so they had him hit in the last quarter with very little time left in the game. I have many instances where I placed a bet and it hit and it didn’t feel “real”. One of those instances was a jahmir Gibbs TD during the nfc championship game with the lions vs 49ers. Somehow I just knew deep down he would score a TD and the 49ers just let him walk right in and I was like ok Buddy that sureeee seemed real. Remember I won these bets and something just seemed so off about those wins.
After Murray hit that discount I just knew I was done spending my own money on these gambling sites and it’s not even worth it anymore. Idk about y’all but some stuff that happens in sports don’t even seem real to me anymore.
Anyways just want to wish y’all a great day and stay blessed!

This aged well!
Adam Silver is a clown. He won't do anything.
The worst commissioner in history. Dude sucks
He banned Porter. Does that count?
Before gambling was allowed, the gambler, the "company", and the player holds the responsibility. But now, it's only the players responsibility. The company is simply saying "Hey i lost money, therefore this player must be rigged" to issue an investigation to ruin a player's life. Imagine this happening in the finals and this could very likely affect the final result.
As for Porter, nba analysts aren't stupid. Gambling legalized or not, they can at least know he is hurting the team instead of helping the team. He ain't getting contracts and this is the ultimate punishment.

I don’t know about this particular case, but there have been several in cricket, snooker and football in past years.
With the AI that betting companies now have, and even with their previous statistical models, you just can’t win outside of the standard deviations and not get caught.
A player might underperform in half of their stats over a whole season, or bowl a no-ball in cricket on the 4th ball of an over, miss the cut in 3 consecutive golf tournaments or make two rebounds in a game twice in a row when you usually get 8+ , but the odds of that happening at the same time that someone is laying huge bets on it are basically zero, and the computer will flag you every time.

Legalised gambling in the US -> bye bye US.
I remember when gambling was legalised in the state of Victoria in Australia back in the mid 90's. The then head of World Vision Australia, Reverend Tim Costello, spoke out against it claiming that it will ruin peoples lives (gambling addictions leading to broken marriages, increase in domestic violence, increase in crime, increase in permanent self harm). He was laughed at and ridiculed, written off as a religious do gooder. 10 to 20 years later, he was proven right.

Dude says the mafia was begging it like it’s the 1960s lol.
Or... the mafia was a part of the roots of the NBA and it didn't just lose those connections?
It's so good that betting is legal. This must've happened a ton in the '70s, '80s, etc and without the NBA and the people taking the bets working together, there was no communication and no recourse. Now you can find out who's rigging games and punish them.
The problem is that Sports books made props on a guy that is known to have an injury history.
A "high roller" might have seen the props, and the injury history and thought, 'what the heck, let's try it'.
I highly doubt this, especially after watching a clip of him avoiding that rebound. I do know people who do this, but it's usually with players with higher props. These bench guys with such low totals can hit there props with like 10 mins of playing time. Taking an under prop on someone like AD, he will need alot of playing time to get to his numbers.
This shit funny 😂. He thought he was slick . The perspective put on this issue is interesting. Good video

Betting one statistic is different than betting five in hitting all five
gambling in sports only opens those doors at every level
Objectively speaking, "All evidence presented was circumstantial at best." Having said that, the NBA can make whatever determinations and decisions they want to, in order to maintain/portray whatever image they deem best represents their advertisers' broadcasters' and investors' best interests.
Why’d I get a financial ad on the gambling vid 😂
He’s made close to $4mil so far between NBA & NBAGL, despite his low salary this year. He’s also only 24 and his game is a great fit for Euroleague…making this that much dumber to go for a short term payoff like this, unless there’s another angle we don’t know (i.e. threats from criminal enterprise, etc.) but that seems very unlikely compared to just greed
'According to the Ringer.' Lol!
Adam Silver is going to learn the hard way, why David Stern was so vehemently opposed to the league being in any way, shape or form associated to gambling.
Yet Tim Donaghy and his goons were fixing games under Stern…It’s gonna happen
Actually, Silver’s biggest misstep ruining the NBA was promoting BLM.
They literally fixed games under stern and a ref came out and said he was paid and threatened by the mob to fix games during that time period too
Damn, you CALLED IT! The exact person too.
