I don't agree that you need a screen on a dash cam. It makes the camera enormous which takes up too much real estate in the window, is a target for thieves, and is a distraction to the driver. The Road Angel is a much better idea. It's built-in Wi-Fi makes viewing footage on your smartphone child's play, and it's so discreet in can be left in the car all the time.

My problem with it is that I always feel like it might not be on if I cannot see a screen.

@@imnota You don't need a screen to tell it's on. You get an LED to indicate recording.

@@gadgetman36 still isn't quite the same. You must not work a lot with electronics if you think a status led is enough.
I work in IT and I couldn't even count the amount of times I've come across defective devices or devices that crashed or froze but that still had a perfectly working status led.

@@imnota It isn't something you should be thinking about whilst driving. Drivers need to concentrate on driving, not looking at phone screens, sat nav screens, dashcams or so-called infotainment systems. It's much easier to check the recorded footage at the end of your journey by opening the dashcam app on your phone, and much easier to navigate than fiddly onscreen menus on dashcams. Your smartphone's screen is also much better quality than a dashcam's built-in screen for viewing.

@@gadgetman36 when I drive I only look at my satnav, never the road.

I bought the Nextbase and so far I am pleased with it. I actually had to turn the G-sensor senility down one notch because it wanted to protect every video when I hit a pothole.

Didn't expect to sdee Dave Lister atr the end! Think the road angel is the one for me. I know I'd be looking at a small screen instread of the road! I would only be inciminating myself!

with the nextbase as an example what about if overnight condensation builds up on your windscreen won’t this prevent the camera from being able to see anything at all?

I bought the nextbase 420. Be warned it doesn't store battery power. I charged it up for hours and got about one minute out of it. So unless you intend plugging it into your cigarette lighter in the car...don't buy.

I purchased many low or budget dash cams! Customer service is by e-mail that is one way only! They also do the same with voice too! Leave a message and we will promptly call you back! LOL!

As usual The gadget show fails.. this time because it didn't review the best camera under £100 the Garmin mini 2 ... Personally I prefer garmin mini.. refurbed with 1 years warranty £65... & with an app that actually works unlike many dash cam apps.. beware though the camera can overheat in parking mode if you want parking mode buy the mini 2.
Ok both only 1080p but proper recording 15 Mbits/s... Unlike many that only record at 10
