What are the thoughts on the subject of Celtic shamanism as it may relate to cultural appropriation of indigenous practices? I ask this only because I've been fascinated by the subject of shamanism for many years now, though through an interest in the Irish Druids did I eventually begin to wonder about shamanism through the Irish spiritual lens. I recently became involved with an online series of courses, free and otherwise, offered by authentic Irish sources. One of these individuals, whose teachings I generally have come to find very helpful and relevant, has expressed some dispute about how freely the term "shaman" gets thrown around, much less "Celtic shamanism." I don't think it's quite so simple, though, as many of us here in the US are tapping into our own Irish or Celtic past and taking up practices that our own ancestors may have taken up.

'celtic shamanism' seems to be a part of the 'new age' movement. Mostly people using practices from the amazon and India and framing them in the Irish landscape. There were obviously rituals practiced in Ireland for millenia but no recall contact can be made like there can be in tribes of the Amazon, so it's more of a stitching together of outside ideas.
