Ilia Topuria (Georgian: ილია თოფურია) (born January 21, 1997) is a Georgian and Spanish professional mixed martial artist who currently competes in the Lightweight and Featherweight divisions of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). As of June 27, 2023, he is #5 in the UFC featherweight rankings
Topuria was born in Halle Westfalen, Germany to Georgian parents. At the age of seven he moved to Georgia with his family where he started practicing Greco-Roman Wrestling at school. At the age of 15 he moved to live in Alicante in Spain, where he started practicing martial arts at the Climent Club. In 2015, he made his debut as a professional in local competitions.
After starting his career with 4 straight submission wins on the Spanish regional scene and winning a belt in Mix Fight Events promotion. In 2018 he made his first international fight in Cage MMA Finland. In the same year, in May, he became the first Georgian black belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu alongside his brother Alex Topuria. Months later he received the opportunity to fight for the Cage Warriors Bantamweight Championship at the Lotto Arena in Antwerp, Belgium. Ilia failed to make the agreed weight so despite winning the fight quickly, he did not get the belt.
In 2019 he signed with Brave Combat Federation. Ilia made his debut in the promotion in Bogota, Colombia, defeating opponent Luis Gomez in the first round by submission; which leads him to get the award for best performance of the night. On November 15, 2019, in Bahrain, he won his second fight in BRAVE by defeating Steven Goncalves by KO in the first round. - Sport

When I first saw Ilia’s crisp combos and fight iq I knew it was only a matter of time before he was a title contender. Definitely a true mixed martial artist in its most pure form.
Pimblet is a braggart and a showman, I think he has too much influence or admiration for Mc Gregor, but there is 1 Mc Gregor and that attitude worked well for him in the UFC because he responded with victories, but Pimblet is far from being Mc Gregor's shadow. Gregor and that attitude he has does not serve or help when the results do not come later... he thought he was better than Topuria, but time puts everyone where they deserve. Sooner or later Topuria will be champion and maybe not now, but with his evolving attitude, ambition and desire he will undoubtedly be one.

Jack Della and Ilia have some of the best hands for present and future title contenders and they both deliver those crippling body shots straight to the liver . I'll put Adrian Yanez there too but with his head coach passing who was mainly his boxing coach is not the same, hope he gets the right coaches to bring him back in the picture. And people are giving Volk too much credit . Volk was once on the same trajectory as Ilia and have the same traits as him but Volks vast championship experience makes him a little favourite but make no mistake it'll be a close fight for either men , Volks endless gas tank vs Ilia's knockout power.
Yanez has great hands. He had a bad night against Font, but Bantamweight is a murderer’s row. He’ll be back against Martinez

what i LOVE about his striking, is his utilization of body shots. NOBODY hits the body as much as him. TOO many fighters focus on just headhunting their opponent. The biggest target on opponent is their torso, its the Center of mass.

When has Volk ever faced someone like Ilia, power in every strike, great grappling, great submission threat and solid cardio. The closest guy he’s fought is Chad Mendes and his striking doesn’t compare to Ilia’s, and he also gasses in two rounds. We’ll see when the fight happens, I personally think Volk will win because of his expirience, grit and determination. But to say that it’s a blowout and Volk will run through Ilia is ridiculous

The only sport i ever felt in love with is/was Boxing, and i am a casual in mma although i have been watching it for some years now along with my Grandma at house ; and it is my grandma who introduced me to Ilia Topuria : his last fight was my first time watching him and Boy his Boxing in MMA is so good, his philly shell is wonderful and works in his sport .. he remind me very much of a very old Argentine Boxer contender in the 1950's , classified #1 at the time and one of the greatest Punchers ever : Eduardo Lausse 🇦🇷❤️
