I am realizing the necessity of using shapes to compose images and simplify details to express themes. When I saw your video, I felt indescribably excited. Thank you, Gary.

I do love how you explain your thought processes - you provide clarity to the process of exploring a subject. Indeed learning how to see is the key.

As someone really just starting out in watercolor, Gary's "motif" approach has been very helpful in developing multiple perspectives on a single subject such as shapes, tones, colors, and the like. Thank you, Gary.

Thank you again Gary. This time you gave me food for thought . Specifically, the idea of how artists see the world around them, as shapes, tones, colours and edges. I'm still seeing things, buildings and a million details. I'd like to be free of this impediment.

I think I’m going to think of you as Dr. Watercolor from now on. I’ve been a visual and performing artist my whole adult life...50 years now.....have just taken on watercolor as my new medium to explore, in the last couple of months. Your videos are absolutely fantastic and so meaningful.....in your approach, your philosophy and your excellent communication of your techniques. Helping me so much. I love what you said about music and improvisation after getting to know a subject. I taught improvisational and creative dance for 20 years and I love the idea of translating that energy into painting. Thank you so much.

Thank you for such an excellent motif. We have beautiful bluff and river town motifs here in Alton, Illinois. Wish you and other artists could visit our town. It’s a developing area. Close to St. Louis. We have an arts center. Please consider us for a group workshop in our historic area

Mr. Tucker, do you let that first wash (I think Yellow Ochre) dry entirely before you do the cooler second wash?

He adds the 2nd wash while the 1st one is still wet. You can see that the page is shiny when the blue is added.

Interesting, but your perspective is wrong. The lines formed by the overhanging tops on the two towers should line up.
