Mrs Vicki's Ever Wandering Suburban comes to Lucore! OBS Suburban Tracking woes discovered!

  • Well here's something that combines both our normal daily driver work and our support of fellow CZcamsrs and their projects, today we're tackling a reoccurring issue with Street Racing Channel / Old Man's Garage Mrs Vicki's white OBS Suburban! Having had a number of steering components replaced already and been looked at and aligned by pervious shops this big beautiful work wagon STILL wanders all over the road. What's up?!
As like many things we do this one started out as a quick "it might just need a proper alignment" and rapidly scaled into something completely different. Fortunately, we have the tools and experience to both properly diagnose AND properly repair the issues found. Also huge shout out to Mark at A-1 for him and his team and their seemingly endless supply of parts or ability to easily source them locally!
Also this video is the OFFICIAL launch of our new "I Support Bad Decisions" shirt that is now up! Featuring out 1979 AMC AMX project(s) as we try to make the Hellcat powered machine happen. All profits from the sale of this shirt will go directly towards making that project become a reality!

Another great video from Lucore Automotive, MISS Vicki is such a Kind person! She deserves a newer outfit, the hole family would benefit from a new rig. Holy smokes with all of Bill's friends and contacts he should be able to find a good low mile rig like the 64 and the Malibu. Thank you Rich and the Lucore Automotive crew for all the great content! Great explanation of all your work!

That Suburban needs to always be ready for Vital Mission Support whether that's picking up extra Support Bums from the Columbus Airport after flying cross country with Democrat hippies to making emergency parts runs to Jeggs or running damaged heads and blocks to Uncle Bob all the way to making that midnight run to Dayton or the Carolinas with a trailer in tow to try and defend their their incredible name while earning a little gas money, lol, it's really incredible when you think about it how important this vehicle has been to the successful rise of this entire team!

They have been awfully busy with the race car work for months. Yeah it's wonderful telling the customers we got to charge you to take the knock outs out so that we can actually align your vehicle properly. Some are fine and some are horrible about it. Doesn't help the reputation bad mechanics give the public. Very good video it should have taught alot of people good information.

@@LucoreAuto It's got around 180k. Had it checked around 100k when I hit a deer and messed the front up bad. It was fine then. I just replaced idler and pitman arm, they were surprisingly still in decent shape to my surprise, but changed them anyway. Im gonna do the rest of the front end soon just for preventative maintenance (just how I do things) and will get it checked again then. I just bought my 4th set of tires in the life of the truck, I've gotten over 50k on each set. So I can complain. I may just do the knockouts this time, before I take it in., So they just ,need to align it.

Bushings make all the difference. So do new bolts. Did my 97 ranger 2.3 5sp front end after 220000 miles. If it wasn't part of the frame or power steering , it was replaced, except for the swing axles. Those got electrolysis de-rusted and new bushings. After de-rusting, the original grind marks from removing the cast flashing reappeared. POR'd them and they still look new years later. Truck has never steered so well.

Ok, Im 9 mins into this video. And ill say this, If someone "Recently" did a alignment on this vehicle and we find this upper ball joint at "Near Catastrophic failure" as this is. Then Good Year needs to be off my list of reliable service providers. And told to "Stick to tires" because YOU SUCK AT EVERYTHING ELSE. Just as we found out with our 2009 2500HD Silverado 4 door truck recently. They told me it need the right outer Tie Rod end. At 240-K miles I said just go ahead and do BOTH left and right side outer's at the same time. Which we found they did, However they used a Moog on the right side. And AC -Delco on the left side. Well apparently someone either missed boxed the AC-Delco or it wasn't assembled correctly with the right length stud, Because when they put the castle nut on it. There wasn't but maybe 1- 1/2 turns on the nut before it tightened up. Not allowing you to even get a cotter pin threw it. So they decided to improvise. And used a nylon jam nut (The thinner type of jam nut) Well you can probably guess what happened soon after. So then they aligned it. Now the question that still remains is, When was the last time there alignment rack was recalibrated??? Because there surely was NO TEST DRIVE afterwards. Because had they, Then they would have IMMEDIATELY realized there was something wrong with there rack. All ill say is this, "There's a Good Year repair center in NE Ohio that id stay away from, Other than getting new tires installed or a flat repaired.

i have a 99 i would never part with, had similar steering issues, one im old now and some people don't realize the older or weaker you are the more you tend to lean into the steering wheel, makes it a little iffy tracking, kinda like toe off. all the shops i took it to for alignment use the normal front end shop skuff for toe, being an old ex racer i finally took the time and stringed, i guess that's the way to say it, im sure you know what i mean, using a string in an x pattern then front to rear for toe. finally got it as good as it can get and just try to relax more when im driving, at 81 i tend to lean into it more than most. love these body styles, on another note, the model with the headlights like you have there, like mine, is the only vehicle i know of that you can buy real glass headlights for. i got tired of the plastic crap yrs ago, mine have been there for almost 8 years and still perfect, i can't remember the brand, not a seal beam and they were hard to find. so much better than plastic

I love Old man garage but I don't get why they have to send out the front end work. I do all my own front end work set the camber with a level and set the drivers side toe straight to the frame rail using a 2x4 to project the angle down the frame rail then set the passenger tire to the drivers side and that gets it really close for the alignment shop to finish off the rest once I can get a appointment but at least it gets me close enough to drive around
