Hello. Enjoyed your podcast, new to me. Just to say, if you are just binding a straight sided quilt, you do not need bias binding. You can make a binding strip from long pieces of fabric cut on the grain as bias tape is for curves. This means it is very easy for you to make yourself. Hope this helps. Best, Laura x
oh of course! I’m just getting used to all the language and any binding is still intimidating to me, but I guess it’ll be fine as long as I have my iron 😄 thank you, laura x
Jaa wir wollen quilts, styling Videos und vlogs! 🙌🏻☺️ Es macht so Spaß dir zuzusehen, wie du vor Ideen sprudelst und ganz viel neue crafty things ausprobierst. 🫶🏻
The Manx Loagthan definitely has a bit of plump and squish to it. Once I finished my sample, it has the most twist of anything I’ve spun yet. I’m wondering if that’s to due the crimp. I’ve read it has a fair amount.
I bought 4 skeins of Good Wool from Purl Soho. Teal Twilight, Well Water, Heirloom White and Winter Grass. Planning on making colorwork mittens with two and will see how it works out. I've never noticed mittens to pill? Will let you know what happens but don't hold your breath. I have one pair of mittens to finish and colorwork socks to partially frog and finish knitting. 🙄 I also like the music at the end of this podcast.Have a good week!
I am so happy you spoke about the armhole depth, I am fairly tall and have wide shoulders and always always struggle with jumpers ending up right in my armpit which I don't like. If you had any recommendations for knits with deep armhole, I'd like to know which ones they are!
Currently doing two years of living in Japan and I don’t have my sewing machine. But a quilted jacket is on my list for when I go back home and have space to sew again ❤
It was so lovely to spend some time with you while knitting on my Small Fry Scarf test, Marlene! Your Traveler Pullover turned out absolutely stunning! Bracelet length is definitely my preferred length because otherwise my sleeves always seem to get in the way, but it’s always an easy fix to simply add in a few cm after the fact. Hope you’re in the mend and are able to enjoy your week of rest. 😊
thank you for spending some time with me and that little scarf looks so cute! (: I’m definitely not opposed to fixing length after the fact, like I’m currently doing for my partners sweater but I mostly seem to find a place int wardrobe for sweaters with different measurements and purposes (: thank you!
Hi Marlene! It was lovely to catch up with you while I was working on my latest blanket design. 😊 I’m sorry to see that Good Wool pilled so much, let’s hope it’s just temporary. It’s a beautiful sweater. Take care and happy making! ❤
Thank you! 😊 I’m interested to see how your blanket design will work out :) i hope it will, apprently it’s woolen spun and loose 2 ply so that’s to be expected! happy knitting x
I would make the binding. You can make the tie-straps at the same time. It's the same folds of the fabric, just attached/finished differently. I appreciate your channel.
Hi Marlene. I really love the vest! I'm making a similar one (v-neck, no cables but same colour) and am curious to see how to style it.. definitely out of my comfort zone but I think will be a great piece for work. I also love your media recommendations, I think it's a great addition to your videos!! Take care. Looking forward to following along on your spinning journey.
thanks so much for all the lovely feedback! I’m also curious to see how I’ll style it haha it’s very much out of my usual style so far as well but so far I really like it :)
Your vest looks soo good with the linen skirt, t-shirt and necklace! It makes me want to knit a vest too :) While watching, I am knitting Stripe Hype sweater as I am taking part in StripeKALwithKika and this pattern is addictive! I am knitting a size L for my S body as i want it to be very oversized. As always - love watching your podcast (and I really like the snippets of your makings at the end). Thank you!
Love the vest 🤎 always look forward to watching your videos (trying to be better at commenting). I was knitting on my Smigla Shawl whilst watching…lots of little cables without a cable needle 🧶
thanks I’m glad! I’ve been incorporating it within a couple of videos lately as I don’t manage to vlog a ton in a usual week but this way I can still give a more visual insight into my making progress ☺️
I also love the Pihlaja patterns, really looking forward to check out the other patterns in the book, too 😊 And I even lived in an area of Helsinki called Pihlajamäki during an exchange semester. Therefore I'm quite sure its pronounced with a "p" instead of an "f". It is rowan (Eberesche) in Finnish! The colour of the samples in the book fits perfectly 😊 Your grey yarn combination looks great, too!
thanks for the pronounciation tipp! :) the original color is truly beautiful! unfortunately I have found a mistake in the pattern but have contacted the designer who wanted to contact laine so they could put it in the errata - I‘ll report more on it in my next episode and hope you enjoy making it as well :)
@marleneknits thanks for the reply ❤️ you had some B-roll of your maker's notebook at the end of your video. I was referring to that. How you plan and how you set up your knitting plans...
@@steffiw1282 oh of course! it’s mostly just scribble, writing out my wishlist and then narrowing it down to more realistic plans! with my quarterly plans and make 9 I have written out some plans that I can also tick off because find that satisfying :) I’ll see if I can talk a bit more about it in another episode!
Hi Marlene, I went to see Dune II with my partner last Saturday and we loved it so much. It's visually stunning and the music is powerful! Did you enjoy it? I also learned and am still learning so much from the questions that Andrea Mowry answers on her channel 😉 Have a nice weekend! Sandy
oh yes we really enjoyed it as well! I read the book by Frank Herbert a couple years ago and thought it was well adapted - visuals and audio were stunning! thank you and you too x
@@marleneknits My partner has also read the Frank Herbert books, and I'm tempted to look for the audiobooks to listen to while I knit ☺ It's wild and a little scary to think that the story was written so long ago and the themes are still so relevant today. Don't you think?
yeah.. I did apply for both cause technically size three had the recommended positive ease and size 4 my preferred amount of positive ease - so I thought I’d apply for both and rebecca chose me for size 3. I think I like the amount of ease for this design but would still prefer a centimeter or two of a deeper armhole :) in the future and for sweaters I might just go with size 4 - it’s all a learning process isn’t it? 😊
I used to love Andrea Mowry's vlog and I still do watch it, kinda sorta. More recently it's way too much about spinning, which I'm not interested in. I will check out Mandy's blog!
since I’m now spinning myself, possibly also inspired by Andrea, I like that about her videos, but of course I get that not everyone is interested in it :)
Marlene, I love your videos but please, would you make them a bit louder? They're so low, I have to increase the volume, which means I go deaf anytime CZcams decides to show adds! Hahahaha!!! Pleeeeeaaaaassssseeeee
hey Tania, thank you so much for your feedback! I’m already increasing the audio in my podcasts to 120% 🥲 when I edit them I can only listen to them on the mid range of the sound because it’s too loud otherwise.. so I‘m already trying my best and don’t really know how I could improve it without changing up my filming set up which unfortunately I‘m not able to do at the moment - have you tried turning up the volume on youtube as well as the device you are watching from? again I‘m so sorry this is making your watching experience less great :(

Your Traveler crew turned out so well and the fit looks really nice on you! And your handspun for the shawl is 👌

yeah that’s probably it! so interesting to see all these different fibers work up isn’t it? (:
Enjoyed your podcast! I have plans to knit the traveller crew as well. Was working on a test knit while watching as well as my Miles Shirt Jacket!
Thank you! Love the look of the Miles Shirt Jacket, might have to make that one day too :)

Oohh Superstore is was so funny!!!!
And that sewing machine cover looks so cute already!
LisaR; Your spinning- I actually gasped ❤!!
My " beginning " skeins looked like twine for months - They're beautiful!
thank you so much! ☺️

This was such an enjoyable episode! I loved seeing your multiple hobbies show 💓 you’re inspiring me to spin and sew more

Hi Monique, welcome aboard! :)
Your lauder vest is so lovely!
Your quilt is super cute !
Love the song in the outro
it’s by flimboy, a local artist from out town! he’s a great singer songwriter ☺️
Always lovely, Marlene.❤
Could you maybe show us how you set up your knitting/making notes?
what exactly would you like to see? the ones in my journal or on ravelry? :)

Could a man wear this?
which project is this question pertaining to? personally I believe that anyone could wear whatever they want as long as they feel comfortable in it :)
