Best era of Jamaica's football. We produced some superb players in the 90s. Outstanding players like Ray Graham, Ainsworth Kerr, Winston Griffiths, Cornel Chinsue, Irvino English, Jermain Hue et al. were on the fringes. They would have walked in the current side.

Perhaps, the crossroads to getting to the World Cup 1998 came in 1997 against the United States. The score was 1-1 but what stood out was that we had 598 completed passes in that game. Rene and I had discussed before the game that if we could get to 600 completed passes we could win this game. AN INTERESTING FACT. Our goal came from Deon Burton from a steal by Paul Hall after the USA had gone up 1-0 on a penalty from a marginal handball by Pepe Goodison. What stood out about our equalizer is that when we studied film on Jeff Agoos the left lateral for the USA, if he was pressured in the back he had the inclination to lose the ball. So when Paul pressured him on the sidelines, stole the ball and fed Deon who equalized. With the remaining 2 games we tied at El Salvador from a spectacular goal by Paul Hall and we tied Mexico at home 0-0. Note that I think Jamaica going to the World Cup in 1998 is an outlier event. Have not gone since and had not gone before. Unfortunately, we have not come close since. It was a perfect storm of events. Much of these events I documented in a book called "The Futebol Generals." They used to affectionately call me "Laptop."

Just saw this thread. I have 50 hrs of inside video footage of the road to France and beyond. I need help from a documentary professional to put the inside story together.
Why we made it only once would be explained. Jamaicans are powerful people with superb athleticism. What was required was galvanizing this force into a disciplined movement. You had 3 main admin leaders. Rene Simoes, Captain Burrell and the exceptional work ethic of General Secretary Horace Reid. My part was as the tactical analyst. Rene had the theories and through data research I helped validate his ideas mathematically. It was like we brought a new form of science to Jamaican Football. And with the arrival of Paul Hall, Deon Burton and Fitz Simpson came experience and professionalism. Magic became reality. It happened. It was one of the greatest gifts to the Jamaican people. Hope and achievement!

what about Hector Wright (easily one of the best midfielders ever), Tegat Davis, Twinny Bug Anglin, Barrington Gaynor? The first three were probably the best Jamaican players ever, at least in terms of their actual effect on the game. People tend to find other reasons, except for the actual RESULT of their play, to deem other people as being more important. I believe Tegat was the catalyst for the birth of greatness in Jamaica's football, but his name is ever down-played on every side that he turns, including as a coach. He was the architect of the first Caribbean tournament victory and the person who made Jamaica believe. He sold out stadiums in Jamaica. For example, Seba goes to Draxhall to play and the Black Stars supporters are outside, waiting to make sure that Tegat was playing before paying to go inside. Remember that two-way semi-final when Constant Spring led Seba by a few goals in the first leg, in a game where Tegat could not play. All of Montego Bay went to Kingston for the second leg, as they were confident that Tegat would make a miracle. He scored several goals and won the match. No other person had influenced the game as Tegat Davis. He was so certain to score that even when he was unfit to play for Jamaica, Carl Brown would ask him to go and score and then come off. Jamaica has a way of forgetting the top players, especially when they are not from the corporate area. No one came close to Tegat as a goal scorer, and no one comes that close to this day. The only problem is that most of his youthful days saw him being overlooked by Jamaica, for no reason but that he was not from the corporate area until Carl Brown came along...when Tegat was already getting old...

@Ann Clarke Well, even if Tegat was not the national coach, at least, show him respect. He is forgotten. He could even be with the program. He is extremely good at motivating players and creating strikers. Anglin was in the program until he ran afoul with the law. I have no problem with the private sector having their opinion on it. Still, Twinny must be remembered for the player he was.

@@highthoughts1 Yep remember those days with Noah sterling seba united, seems like back in the day there was a little bias in selection of players considered for national rep, Caple Donaldson, Donald hewitt were very good players, always made sure i was at the Seba vs Boys Town games where Lenny Teacher Hyde, Noah Sterlin and Tegat would put on a show.

Dean sewell overseas doing what? You need to be more specific on what they're doing now. Remember your topic, 'where are they now'.

Good video but several players current status were missing. At least provide a reason for the omissions.
