    We could not wait to try the street food in Vietnam! So on our first day in Da Nang, we took to a food tour, eating our way through the streets! We did our food tour with a local guide from Da Nang and by the end of the tour we were not only very full, we were so exited by the delicious dishes and more confident about venturing out on our own to try more local street food.
    The food in Vietnam is not only absolutely delicious, but extremely affordable. It is not only complex in flavours, but it can also be complex in its ""assembly" if you don't know what you are doing. This is one of the reasons that we love doing a food tour as soon as we arrive in a new country or region. We learn so much about the culture and history of a place through a proper food tour as well. All of the dishes we tried were completely new to us! Our guide was also the most fabulous, fun and friendly local we could have asked for. We quickly realized that this friendly and welcoming nature is the way of the wonderful Vietnamese people.
    We hope you enjoy watching this first video in our Vietnam travel series. We are in Vietnam for an entire month and hoping to soak in as much of this lovely country as we can and share our experiences with you. Cheers!

      The food was outstanding, but we truly loved so much about Vietnam (as you will see in future videos as well!). We are already planning to return because we loved it so much. We have so much more to explore and also to EAT in other regions!! The north and the south have some different dishes and/or ways of preparing similar dishes. We were smack dab in the centre and realized they have influences form both and also their own yummy dishes! Definitely be VERY excited for Vietnam! LOL. Cheers!!

      We have tried many Vietnamese dishes! We always add the fresh herbs and vegetables - they make the dishes that much better! When we saw other tourists not adding and mixing in the herbs and vegetables, we wanted to go over and show them how to eat! lol!! We found a few restaurants that we really liked and we tried as many menu items as we could! Then we even took a cooking class!! We have now just left and already miss the food! We will have some more videos from Vietnam coming soon! Cheers!!

      Bun Cha is the first thing we had on arrival and also the last thing we ate for dinner!! We LOVE that too! The great thing about the food tour was trying things that we never would have tried ourselves, rather than the typical, well known favourites! We handled Bun Cha, Pho and Banh Mi on our own!! LOL. Also, we already miss Bun Cha, so think of us the next time that you have one hahaha! Cheers John! We already miss our afternoon poolside chats LOL.

    Can you eat raw veggie and iced drinks without stomach issues there..rhzs

    • @mitchandjan
      @mitchandjan  Před 3 měsíci

      We had no issues at all!! However, the water/ice must be purified before drinking. We hoped/assumed/had faith that any ice we were consuming at restaurants and street vendors were made from purified water and we were careful to choose vendors and restaurants that appeared to have clean establishments and food handling. Raw veggies were not an issue either and we bought and made some salads at home. We did rinse any veggies that we ate raw with our purified water (we fortunately had a water purifier running to a separate tap in our kitchen) before we ate. We had happier tummies in Vietnam than we did in one week in Mexico! LOL

    • @davetravelstheworld
      @davetravelstheworld Před 3 měsíci +1

      We will take ot slow and not have too many iced frozen drinks and dripping wet veggie. We Didnt have trouble in Thailand but did in indonesia. Not fun experience

    • @mitchandjan
      @mitchandjan  Před 3 měsíci

      I found Indonesia did not have the same water treatment at source, so it can be very sketchy and I stayed away from leafy greens and ice cubes from street vendors. LOL. What we understand about water in Vietnam is that they do treat it at the source, but high chlorine and sediment from older pipes is more the issue, but at least you have some treatment before it runs through the tap (at least in urbanized areas). We brushed our teeth with the tap water every day with no issue. We found the overall infrastructure in Vietnam way more advanced than Indonesia (at least Bali). I think we were expecting it to be more on par. Good luck! Choose clean looking, busier establishments and look for the bags of ice being delivered! LOL. We had iced coffee every day at some very local (non-touristy locations) and had zero issues! Also I had a mango/passionfruit/watermelon...juice every day with lots of ice and no issues.

    • @mitchandjan
      @mitchandjan  Před 3 měsíci +1

      One other tip we forgot to add, is to look at the ice that is served. Most factory (definitely safe) ice has a hole in the middle of the cubes (indicating made in an ice maker). 👍🏻

      @@mitchandjan The one you had is a specialty banh xeo from Quang Ngai, which does not have "ground turmeric", the thing that makes banh xeo 'yellow'.

    • @mitchandjan

      Ahhhhh! OK. Well we had about 5 more banh xeo while we were there and most of them were definitely yellow! So, we got to try both kinds! Thanks for the explanation 🙂👌

    In Asia, Vietnam is the only country that uses the Latin alphabet. invented by a French pastor and created from Sino-Vietnamese characters. late 19th century or early 20th century (I don't remember clearly). So, you can roughly spell Vietnamese with a little attention, but understanding the meaning is another matter. Wish you have a nice trip! I just added a little more information

    • @mitchandjan
      @mitchandjan  Před 3 měsíci

      Wow thank you for that interesting information! We actually did take note that it was all Latin letters and not Asian/Chinese characters. We also learned that there was so much French influence in Vietnam (that we didn’t know before visiting). Maybe you will have more information to add to the other videos we will be putting out on Vietnam - so please keep watching! Lol!! Thank you for watching and thank you for taking the time to add a bit of history and information! Cheers! 🥂

      @@mitchandjan I apologize for some misinformation. The person who had great contributions in creating the Vietnamese national language was the Spanish missionary Francesco De Pina who came to Hoi An in 1617. In 1625 he drowned here in an accident. The co-authors are an Italian and a Frenchman (whose names I don't know). It was not until the late 19th and early 20th centuries that it became widely popular in Vietnam.
