    Great vid Alex. I’m sold on O-Group and have been reorganising all my 10mm for NW and E Europe. It didn’t work so well in 15mm for us as we like our armoured toys so staying with Daves excellent Panzergrenadier for them in Europe and Rapid Fire in the desert. I’d like to see some options to expand O-group to Brigade level for bigger games as well.

      Cheers Nick, glad you enjoyed it. It's a great game and I'm completely sold on it. I'm sure there will be bigger game options in forthcoming supplements.

    Thanks for making this. One very viable option if building a new force is to try Baccus 6mm. They have a series of packages aimed at O Group. I have painted a huge number of FoW models and just recently some Baccus 6mm tanks. The detail on the Baccus is simply STUNNING!!

    Thank Alex! That’s cleared up what figures to use and how to base them. I was going to use 6mm or 10 mm figures but after seeing your American Battalion I’ll have to go for 15mm as I’ll have to paint a German Battalion to match them.
    I like the additional forces/support troops that are more often than not left out of Wargames.
    I get the feeling that with a bit of thought using a map a Brigade level game could be played using a brigade frontage map plan the attack/defence but only 1 battalion is used which in defence the necessary supports are left in an unused part of the battlefield .
    I’ve planned it out for a Napoleonic scenario but the club ended up blaming 1814 east of Paris. The campaign listed for over a year then petered out because one of the generals had got into a corner😕.
    My first chance of capturing two Corps. Unlikely because I couldn’t risk a pitched battle with only the imperial guard.

    Really informative and interesting view of the "O" Group investment for the ruleset, Alex. I've enjoyed the game videos and like the mechanics I see. I have oodles of 10mm WWII sitting in the lead pile given to me from a buddy. I'm gonna bite the "O" Group bullet, dig them out and get busy.

    Cheers Alex - that was really useful. I started a British Battalion last year but got lost in the composition and they sit in a box with about 60 painted. This means I won't need to expend too much effort to expand to a full battalion with supports. Might have to revisit this.

    I really like the O Group battalion combat level and how the rules work, but I'm not much into the abstraction of units. Could the game be played using 1:1 or would it generate issues? I mean, in this video you are using a small FoW base with 3 models as a section, would it be possible to actually represent the entire section on diferent bases without changing the game mechanic? Like 2/3 bases of 10mm models for a section.

    • @deece1482
      @deece1482 Před 2 lety +2

      You might be able to do 1:1 in 6mm, the problem is, the bigger you get with the number of models the bigger your table will need to be.
      10mm would work well.

    • @StormofSteelWargaming
      @StormofSteelWargaming  Před 2 lety

      You'd better go for 6mm for a 1:1 scale, but you could do it in 15mm as well. However, you'd probably want to increase your playing table. It could be done though.

    • @svenfolkesson7571
      @svenfolkesson7571 Před 2 lety +1

      I play in 6mm and have 6 figures on a section base sized 30x20mm. Had I gone for slightly bigger bases, say 30x30, I could certainly have been able to do 1:1. Problem is that the ground scale is the equivalent of ~2mm figures so the larger bases you do historical frontages may be skewed.
      I do 1:1 for AFVs and that’s an easy change in 6mm.

    Very nice video, Alex - this will definitely help newcomers to O-Group. You did leave out one important point - - how many points does Tiny cost?😸😼😸. I have a bunch of old 12mm Minifigs that painted up for FoW. They port right over to OG with no trouble at all!! I am about to start on a couple of desert battalions.
    I saw a couple of posts where people are asking you about doing more videos for making up battalions for other nations. What about doing one that deals with the strengths, weaknesses, tactics, etc of each army? As you indicated, the basics of building battalions are the same across the board. However, each nation’s army has a different way of playing it. Even different battalions from the same nAtion use different tactics! Just a thought.

    If the platoon is the smallest battlefield unit, why split the infantry platoons into their three sections? Wouldn’t it be easier to use just one larger stand for each infantry platoon and smaller stands for the attached company/division specialty sections? I would think it save both the space needed to deploy each platoon and the number of miniatures needed.
