Do it in white, and something that will make it more textured. Then get them to draw on the space of their height!! Everytime you measure, also get a art project! If I ever have kids this is what I want to do but with a wooden board in their rooms. First measure when they start walking and go from their. Would be such a cool final piece!
The idea is so cute. But I would worry that the paint is going to chip right off with opening and closing the tape measure. I would make sure to write down the heights as well so that if this ever broke or the measurements chipped off you still have the ability to remake them.
Put a piece of flat trim on the wall for each child and rest a 'square' (used in drafting) on their head and wall for an accurate mark. The trim can be lined up tightly next to each other for each child. Always add the date and name to each dash. Trim can be removed if you move.
My parents have been doing these for years. I was born in '93. I have a 9 5 dated Stanley 25-ft tape. Nice and reliable and it has 17 years of markings on it. I will admit this guy is smart.to let the world know with all his views
