I don't know if it's easy, but your dad sure makes it look that way.
I was mesmerized by the whole process. There's just something about wood and lumber that is soothing. All the potential that exists in a tree from seedling to felling. I live in an older house and when I look at the lumber that was used 150 years ago and still provides my family with warmth and protection I am awestruck.
I agree. It is a wonderful material.
Swedish Homestead
hi Simion, you sa id your father did 5000 hours on his woodmizer. I did 11000 hours in 13 years on our LT40. what an awesome machine !!!!!!!!
That is awesome!!!
my house is made out of all straight grained lumber.......i never throw out the used lumber when i do rip out and remodeling.......it is really tough to drive a large nail thru it.......i usually pilot drill first
That's right Fred. It's even more awe inspiring when you realize that almost everything was done by hand too back then! They didn't have these wonderful bandmills back in the day. We're pussies by comparison.
But yeah, you just can't have a bad day milling (unless the machine breaks :) You never know what you are going to find inside a log. It seems that the bigger and uglier the log, the more beautiful the lumber inside. You can be in a pissy mood but when you open up that log, the first thing that hits you is the wonderful aroma. Then as the figure is revealed, cut by cut, the angels begin to sing.
That's the second thing I have found that ALWAYS takes you out of a funk. The first is looking at the clouds and the sky. Try it sometime when you are in a bad mood. Look up at the majestic clouds. You simply cannot remain irritable. Sometimes it only lasts as long as you watch the clouds but still you simply cannot be negative when gazing at the sky!
The constant repetition in association with beauty and creativity is a mesmerizing thing. I love welding too. It takes skill but it is also mindless in that you have to concentrate to the exclusion of everything else and it becomes this hypnotic and deeply satisfying thing.
Great video. I love to see a family get together and get the job done. Blessings!
You are very lucky to be able to work along side you father and brothers on your land. Keep up the good work and videos.
Very interesting to see it being turned from a swedish, to a finnish log.
Stoned Avocado thank you for that pun. As all punny people know, the worse a pun is, the more we enjoy it!
bravo
Boom boom!
BOOOO! Loved it. ;)
Now that's funny! Good one Stoned Avocado.
I'll be looking for your name now to see what else you come up with.
Great job as always! Can't wait to hear your dad's sage advice on using the Wood-Mizer.
I loved watching your Wood Mizer doing all the things that it was made to do. Awesome job guys!
Very interesting & the light is beautiful. Thanks for inviting us to this time of family work !
I love Wood-Mizer mills! I'm on my second one. The first one never wore out, I just upgraded. I miss the old pull lever HD40! Looks like some very nice textured and interesting pine they're milling. I like it! You can't have a bad day milling!
Also I often wondered why people didn't restack slabs and cut again to get all the lumber possible, best video yet, no words were needed
Always appreciate people who take the time to make videos
I have a LT40 woodmizer and it’s a great little mill.
The people at woodmizer are always helpful and are great to help.
What an awesome small sawmill. It made every cut look so effortless. Good editing too.
that's a simple and smooth operation. I'm truly impressed
What a fantastic piece of kit. The little grapler that turns the boards on their side is cool and there isn't a single circular blade in sight. Brilliant! 👍
This was a very soothing and refreshing video, thank you.
Gr8 stuff I watch your videos often and totally enjoy them, thanks for sharing
Mark
Learning so much from your videos. Thank you.
Simeon, Thanks for the video on the woodmizer, love that machine, really functional and
makes sense why your father purchased this after seeing many others on the market. Please relay to your father what a wonderful family he has raised, I am sure your mom is in there too;-) but and I am always struck by the balance and groundedness of your clan. I am sure your parents are very proud of you boys ! Much peace to you all ! Brother Brian
Thanks Brian. We are blessed to have each other but we too are a normal family with struggles and challenges. ;)
Watching this was enjoyable. I especially liked the different angles you recorded. Keep up the great work!
Something satisfying about watching a sawmill hard at work!
Loved it. It is always great to see those doing things as it should be. Here in the U.S. Everyone just buys and never knows how it is made anymore. I have personally worked from mill to finished homes.
that's a simple and smooth operation. I'm truly impressed.
Wow, that went by fast. Appreciate how productive that mill is, of course the operator counts too. Great job guys.
You make it look easy.
You have got it down to a science.
Love the videos.
Well done gentlemen. Keep up the good work . . . Dad leads the way !
Got some good ideas from you just watching. Setting up our mill this Spring. Getting some learning in by watching some of these great videos. Thanks much.
And I thought that those boards just magically appeared on the shelves of Lowe's and Home Depot! Great video. TFS!
lovely , it gives you the Comelling Why to build a House with All that lumber, lovely 1x4s, great for Roofing ..floring..to you have the machine to make the tongue and groove flooring..ash is beautiful, try to find some fallen ashes
Very good, your one of the few I've watched that understands you have to leave the cut ones on top for weight/pressure to keep thickness consistent.
Always a pleasure to see an activity so connected to the earth. Way to go guys! I have around 10,000 hours on a wood mizer! Very cool video.
Thank you...great family video
Wow I need one of those! Could make so much lumber, wow!
it's nice to see you working with your dad.
So clean and satisfying
Love watching pros at work.
Beautifully shot video.
Another great video of your family working together. That mill looks and works great! Looks like it get used, and gets taken care of.
It is a work horse.
I liked the video, well done. Your Dad knows what he's doing for sure, nice mill.
Great video, very slick operation as you'd expect with 5000 hours working experience, looking forward to the in depth Q&A with your Dad. The Woodmizer is a very impressive bit of machinery.
Thanks. Yeah, it is a work horse.
Good thinking. The mill loads the log on the table, turns and clamps it for the first cut, and the following three squaring cuts. Even raw edges can be cleaned on multiple boards so one can get straight 1x4s.
I liked it.
awesome video. keep up the family traditions.
blessings from Steel City Canada
Awesome machine. Thanks for the video.
Everything was just great, the camera recording was very good. Thank you
Well on your way to 25000 subs God is sure blessing your channel.
Well designed machine and DAD knows how to run it very well.
Dad always said touch it once
..Set up the chipper and process it all. Especially with xtra hands. Look into making fire logs drill 2 holes. Lowes sells them in USA. Everyone loves a campfire... Great job..I'm a true fan.
Thanks for the new post. It was nice to see a family working together towards a common goal. My boys, all of whom are also fans, cant get over seeing snow. The temps here in New Orleans fell into the mid 40(F) and the weathermen were talking about an arctic blast! Again thanks. Its also been fun seeing the number of your subscribers climb.
Thank you. We have such a crazy mild winter. It is so warm for us in January.
Very nice to see dad and son combination. So interesting watching magnificent work been done. Superb! Watching from Papua New Guinea.
You make it look so easy.
Love the pants dad was wearing
Would love to get some
I liked the why your dad makes it look easy. My Dad brought his when he turn 75 and is still doing it at 87. His has no hydraulic's that does make it easier.
Your great camera angles make your videos interesting to watch.
great video Simeon, thank you.
Okay, here goes. Simeon, I think this video may be your best work yet. I was tempted to start typing this only part way in, but instead watched it all, then watched it again.
You sir, in my opinion, have a real talent in film making. How you can tell a story with a camera.
The inclusion of music, and a great choice it is, was provided at the right time, and ended at the right time, and did not overpower the story sound in the backround.
Your choices in shooting and editing the multiple camera angles provided perfect continuity to the storyline.
The naration was spot on. A perfect paragraph, as it were.
I don't know how you could have done this any better.
Your dad seems to feel a bit awkward and uncomfortable apearing in the story of your homestead. Please assure him that I, for one, consider him a welcome addition. All of your family are a positive and appreciated part ot the ongoing, day in the life, documentary you are graciously giving to us. Thank you.
I look forward to the next videos in this series, just to see if you can possibly top this.
I wish I could give more than one thumbs up.
Kevin Parker agreed
Cool saw. I'm a carpenter, and thought I had some nice equipment, very versatile piece of equipment there.. Sweet! Thanks for that for sure.
Love the LT40 log turner!!
Thanks for making this video. I genuinely mean that. I'm from the suburbs and my parents stopped camping before I was born so I'm playing catch-up on all the things other people get to experience.
This was so satisfying to watch. It must be great fun to go from a properly harvested tree to whatever gets built with it.
One day I'll try to do this on a miniature scale and build a circular landscaping wall, leaving all the natural edges and "flaws". 🤞
We used the Wood Mizer when cutting the white ash for my deck at our trailer. Works great! Then we had to plane all the boards in the barn. A lot of work but the planks turned out wonderful.
Very useful and interesting video. Much better than IS videos where someone's votes you to tears just standing talking about it, and feels it necessary to introduce you to all the members of his family and his dog
finaly, i was waiting for it all week long!
Haha. I am glad you waited.
Wicked good! Subscribed and looking forward to learning more!
The best so far!
THAT is an efficient use of a Wood Mizer. Good job Dad!
Awesome, I logged a bunch of blow downs from a storm. A friend has a similar wood mill , he brought it in and in 2 days I had enough wood to build my sugar house.
Danke, Dad and Brother
I am a technical person I love to watch all types of working machineries
Great video! Enjoyed it very much!
Thanks for the video I enjoyed watching
Great stuff guys!
I love it. I could do that all day.
like watching that saw mill
Great video. I like the format of showing how something is done more than someone standing there talking about it for 15 minutes. I learned a lot about how to saw logs from this. How does your Dad like being on camera? He seems a little uncomfortable with it but he must really support you in what you are doing which is wonderful.
Thanks. My dad is fine. It is mainly the language barrier.
your dad has a lot of experience for sure very nice to see it from start to finnish ehhh
Oh no! Not again! lol
I would also love to see a video soon showing how you've learned to best season the wood in your climate. How long air-drying before usable? Covered or uncovered? What applications require a follow-up kiln drying, etc? Have you thought of building a solar kiln? Thanks for the interesting videos!
I have a mill as well but not a woodmizer, anyway I use the cut off strips for firing my Whitlox forge. It cleans up a lot of scrap. It is such a good feeling processing your own lumber.Keep up with the fantastic videos!
Thanks.
You guys make great videos
That old man really has that down to a science. You can tell he's mastered the best optimal output he can get from each log. Thanks for sharing. Nice rig, with all the hydraulic lifters. I wonder how much that cost 14 years back! Now a days these are super overpriced. Cost more than fancy used cars.
New camera? It looks really good. That machine is a beast and your dad certainly knows what he is doing. Fun to watch!
Thanks. I still use my iphone.
Nice work and great machine
Mighty fine cutting that Mill Save you back in time
If you are hard wiring your property ( not electric fence) those slabs make good stays (in between your posts) it helps keep your fence tight. That's what we use on our place in Texas. Enjoy your videos.
Yes. Unfortunately this is spruce which rots very quickly in our climate.
delightful video to watch
very interesting keep up the hard work
Thanks.
great to see the way the hydraulics integrate the whole performance
bandsaw mills always seem to be the best over circular saw in bush work, but in the large sawmills they usually use large diameter blades to get a straighter cut, in the end as long as they do the job.
WELL DONE, SUPER!
Great video
Very cool
This looks nicer than their new ones
Make it look easy. That machine pays for its self in a short period of time, and your able to build more than you would if you had to buy lumber. We had a micro burst in Idaho few years back, guy had bought one after the wind knocked down 100 trees on his property and built himself a huge cabin. Paid for,lol
That's the way to do it.
Funny when I realised that I spent a lot of my childhood on a farm almost next to yours. keep up the good work!
Wow. Where?
first farm on the right of the first exit from the village close to you guys
i was hoping you would talk a bit about the pros and cons, such as what kind of maintenance and costs are involved with using a woodmizer bandsaw mill
bet dad was thrilled when his saw arrived 14 years ago
Dad is a bad ass. I enjoyed watching him work as much as the mill itself.
Great video and camerawork
Thanks.
That sawmill setup produces nice lumber. You could go into the lumber business. LOL.
very interesting....here we use a bull edger but the experience of the guy operating it makes the difference your mak`in or loosing footage with the boards that have wain....that with the bark....SALUTE SIR
Wow, what a fun video. I am looking forward to the construction of the new guest trailers, made from the milled lumber. Sign us up.
Me too. Don't know when we will find time and money yet though.
All in good time my friend!!!!
I WANT ONE!!!
i can almost smell the wood.. Cant wait to buy a mill one day
wonderful
