Lucasfilm fucked up even worse. They took the 1993 Laserdisc masters of the Original Trilogy, reverted the opening crawl to the theatrical versions, and released them in 2006 alongside the 2004 Special Editions. They had the audacity to heavily market the originals, when in fact they were just "bonus material" with severe aliasing, interlacing artifacts, excessive grain, and overall poor audio/visual quality. To make matters worse, this was a limited release, only available for purchase between September and December 2006.
Sha Sta Fuck everything George did to the originals. I just picked up the original VHS tapes for $18.
This makes Sonic 06's long loading look almost incredible

I actually HAD a hyperscan in fact I STILL have it , and yes it was a pile of shit , BUT I will say the durability of the console is remarkable , my house flooded two months ago and my hyper scan was under 8 FEET of water for TWO DAYS and it still works

Rerez went into more detail, like the weird connection choices, the power cable being hardwired to the system so if it breaks you'll need to buy a whole new Hyper Scan, the Marvel side scrolling game requires a character card, a level card, and a story card for each of the characters if you want to play through a single character's story mode, and the Ben 10 game has, like, 18 different types of cards.
this thing wasn't even marketed as a game console back in the day. I remember seeing it at Toys "R" Us once and it was off in some no man's land on the opposite side of the store from the video games. It was like some kind of diseased game console they were trying to keep from infecting the good ones. Then about 7 years later the disease reappeared with a vengeance in the form of skylanders.

I love the hyperscan and use it all the time. What's not to love? It's perfect as a coaster for holding two drinks. Cats are scared of it but dogs love to chew on it. It has so many great ways to use it. Just never turn it on or you'll regret it.

This was a billion dollar idea, but just implemented REALLY badly. Skylanders (and Disney Infinite) is essentially the same thing, using out of game figures to get in game characters, except you can use actual consoles rather that the "hyperscan" shit, and you don't have to wait a million years for the thing to load.
Same thing with Nintendo's Amiibo. Also better than HyperScan.

I don't think the Nerd mentioned this, but, the Hyperscan is really prone to failing, and if/when it fails, you need to replace the whole console sense the wires are unable to pull apart.

Channeleven I have. I've heard of it and I've played it. Despite how the people put it, it's not the worst game in the series. It's in the average section. It has nothing on the "rage inducing" scale or the "damage to series" scale when compared to Sonic 06
Channeleven It's a spin off. It'll leave less of an impact than 06 will. It didn't do the series any favours, I'll give you that, but I've seen worse games. Sonic Labyrinth and Sonic R for example.

Oh, boy. This thing is pretty bad, though the card scanning is admittedly a neat concept... like amiibo before its time. Concepts can only be so good without execution, and the HyperScan obviously failed in that aspect.
Aside from the super-long loading times (I actually enjoyed the wait, only because of what you did with the time), the play controls come off as too loose and not very responsive. Sure, playing games with Marvel characters can work, but if they don't play well, the license just gets lost in the mess. The games really don't break any new ground, either, and there was better software at the time for other, more established platforms.
I honestly didn't know about the HyperScan before watching this video, so it's nice that I learned something-- even if it was at the expense and suffering of the Nerd to make it happen.
Yeah, the concept reminds me of that Skylanders game. It's a shame; some of the game looked like somebody put in some time and effort on the assets but hardly anyone will see them.

I worked at Walmart when this thing came out. I remember seeing it and not understanding the purpose. It was cheap and it was so unpopular, it wasn't locked up with the other gaming systems. Most of the stuff ended up being clearanced for it.

I think waiting for the game to scan might be my favorite bits. Because it's a nice way to look back on the series, and I love how much it pisses him off. But its really what you do when you wait for a game to load. You look around the stuff hanging on your wall, the stuff on your dresser/bookshelf. You look at something remember when you got it ect
Scanning cards in games still exists to this day. A good example of a game series that does this is well, Dragon Ball Heroes
It’s more common in Japan. Remember Mushiking and Dinosaur King? Also, they made arcade games with scanning cards based on Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, and Ultraman.
