old comment thread but was just about to comment the same thing myself, I always thought Yamane was the genius behind it all when it was actually also the mysterious Kimura , 3-11 are by him/her and them alone are some of the greatest, perfectly suited yet completely unique pieces Ive ever heard in a video game

I've never been a fan of Castlevania (now I'm not much of a gamer anymore), but I really loved this game. Everything was so interesting and I feel so much nostalgia recalling being on my bed and playing for hours in the dark. Good times. I really have to play it again soon.

Fantastic game, fantastic soundtrack, and pretty good story. I also love how Julius mode takes place right after the bad ending with Soma becoming Dracula.

Well the sound of the DS speakers is pretty shit, but try to play the game with good headphones, that will do the job. Not as clean as here, but damn close.

Dark clouds is underrated. It goes perfect for situations where something terrible is brewing up right in front of you. The start up of scarlet battle soul goes with dmitrii's walking.

Back when this game came out, it had been 2 years since my high-school graduation. But I still have fond memories of this game. And its OST is very solid.

+Servriel Probably never gonna happen with Igarashi gone. Though check out Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night if you haven't already. The art is not done by Ayumi Kojima sadly because she was already busy.
The problem is with Soma looking pretty prissy in DOS. This is an extreme problem, as he needs to look IMPRESSIVELY GAY, like in AOS, what with the damn fur coat in a castle filled with crap in an eclipse.
Seriously, DOS is fine, but the premise, gameplay, music, and INCREDIBLY FLAMBOYANT designs in AOS blow it out of the water.
Well, with the anime-like style, it's easier to get various facial expressions out of the characters. Sure, Some looks serious most of the time, but his faces when the subject changed to Mina were priceless. It's just a little jarring at first, but I rather like this style for this particular game.

The most stand out thing about this game is the sound design, it consists of mostly high pitched bloop, bleep and tink sounds, they sound elegant and cute in a weird way

My favourite has to be Beginning - if only because CastleVania III: Dracula's Curse was my introduction to the series...and I always thought the game had the 2nd best soundtrack of any NES game.
The best, interestingly, is the first NES Batman game. Seriously, go listen to the OST - you wonder how they managed to get the NES's sound chip to process THAT.

My favorite Castlevania, i know Symphony of the Night is THE best, but this one IS the best in my opinion. And Alucard is in this one :)

I think this game surpasses Symphony as well, though Symphony is an excellent game regardless. My personal favorite is Order of Ecclesia. I love the individual stages for the first half of the game, then Dracula's Castle becomes more in the vein of the other post-SotN games. Not to mention the boss fights, music, combat system.... But I could go on. Dawn of Sorrow rules as well. I've never been too crazy about Portrait of Ruin though. It's good, but not a favorite.
I remember thinking at the time I first played this they might have finally outdone symphony. All these years later, I still feel the same way. I know the nostalgia attached to symphony can’t be matched for some (me included), but this was the pinnacle of the series

I can agree with Aria but Dawn of Sorrow took the Aria formula and watered it way down. If you have yet to, I suggest Bloodstained Ritual of the Night, which imo has perfected the Aria of Sorrow formula. It's not a Castlevania game, it's just made by the same guy who makes castlevania games.

So, stage 3's music track for Raiden III is called Dawn of Sorrow, and Stage 2's theme, Electric Resistance, sounds identical to Vampire Killer. Coincidence, I don't think so.

When does the final song in this OST play? "Orignal Amber Scenery"??? Is played after completing the boss rush or something? I don't remember if I ever beat that or how that mode even worked... it's been so long. But yeah, this last song sounds unfamiliar.

That’s why this ost is underrated. The composer(s) really knew how to use the technical limits of the DS to their advantage. In the end, it’s an amazing soundtrack with a distinct feel
