    Update on the kayak. Hobie covered it under warranty. I am getting a new hull. Luckily I was using a Hobie brand cart otherwise they wouldn’t have covered it under warranty.

      The "hobie brand cart" thing Sounds like a BS excuse by hobie to sell overpriced carts and/or trying to get out of warranty claims.
       @Phrosty420 A "C-Tug" style cart shouldn't cause issues. Though real problem here is the quality control on those "inserts" hobie used for the scuppers, so its more so a hull issue rather then the cart.

      @@miclam00 They will ask you in general what cart you used during a warranty claim. Of course you could lie, but someone not knowing any better might say they had a offbrand. That or the dealer might ask to see the cart. Not that it being offbrand had any effect on the actual failure, a 1 inch pipe is a 1 inch pipe.

    Use a C-tug, those cart always damage the holes where it goes in. The more gear on your kayak the more pressure on the seams.

    I have a cart like that as well ( not a Hobie ) and after reading several reviews of that style, they are not good for the
    scupper holes. All the beating and banging they do along with the pressure they apply on the sides it's best to not use
    that style of cart unless you are on pavement where it is completely smooth.

    between that issue and the drive tearing up. seen it on a few here locally. lol my neighbor had the same thing happen, but he sunk in the creek behind the house. bad part i had to go get my dive gear and a floatation bag because he sank in a curve and it was 43 ft deep. so i hopped on my sundolphin 12ss and started scanning with the garmin and i found it. in 38 ft of water. gets better , wrapped up in a tree. not really a safe one man dive with 8'' vis. so off into the muddy gator infested creek i go. knowing the cheapest thing i have with me is my $500 kayak and my dive knife. so i have my neighbor get in my kayak and i tie a rope to his and struggle to get it out of tree with the current. 3 attempts with him paddling up stream to help dislodge his yak . it free and fubared. when it hit the tree under water it poked a huge hole in it. and of course hobie would not honor his warranty. guess he's not a yt guy. fyi 2nd time that yak was in the water. DO NOT USE HOBIE CART IF YOU PULL IT around. he pulled his yak 80 ft twice across his yard to the creek and the bs cart tube failed???? $5600???? not to mention all he lost to boot.. then zero warranty coverage because it sank and the current impaled his yak on a tree?? he said hobie denied replacement due to other damage?? ahh it was brand new and the hole was caused by it sinking . they laugh at my sundolphin , best thing is the seat. but id rather lose 500 than over 7000, not like i could look for things in the bottom of creek with 8'' vis.. but i do know one guy is on his 5th drive unit. hopefully they have fixed that too.

    I thought hobie was made to take a scupper cart. Jackson folks told me to not use scuppers for anything that loads with weight. So, no carts, straps, stake out poles, etc… I did it with my wilderness and ocean kayak for years, but they were much lighter boats. Did warranty cover it? Seems like a skilled plastic welder could fix it. Maybe they would let you do it as a temp repair?

    John is one of the most great guys. Have talked to him in many places and he is the best. Brant at frontier is also a great guy. I've bought 2 kayak from there and I am planning on my next one coming from there. They have great product and service. My next one will be a nucanoe unlimited I have 2 natives and they are awesome. I just want to try the nucanoe

    Why I've never used a cart. Especially the scupper mount style. 10 weeks is too long for a premium brand. Love my Hobie, but they have to do better.

    • @cjfishtales2238
      @cjfishtales2238 Před 2 lety

      @@AlexRuddFishing i understand. my dealer mentioned that when I looked into carts. Basically that hobie has refused warranty on a few boondox installs. Don't know the details. However, my takeaway was that there's not a lot of difference between scupper mount carts. They all put pressure on the wall of the scupper in a way that it is not designed for.
      If I ever get a cart, it will be a cradle style. They seem to be a pain but it's better than the alternative.

    A jerkbait with three hooks is more dangerous than a whopper plopped. It entailed a trip to the er. That little 8inch bass was a bad actor at one point all three hooks were in the fish and my hand at the same time. Good thing my grandson was there. I did learn that no matter how hard you try you can’t chock out them little heathen bass.
