Fun fact: This almost happened here in the US too. In 1910, the US was in a bit of a meat supply crisis and water hyacinths were also growing out of control. Louisiana Rep. Robert Broussard introduced a bill that came to be known as the American Hippo Bill which would've introduced wild hippos into the Gulf to try to solve both issues at once. It had the support of quite a few high-profile people from former president Theodore Roosevelt to the USDA to the Washington Post to the New York Times(who referred to it as "lake cow bacon") Ultimately, however, it was voted down in Congress.

Not so fun fact: there is a growing problem of animal rights activists protecting invasive species preventing actual conservationists from fixing the problem in time leading to the issue being almost impossible to fix. As someone who grew up learning about actual animal conservation reading and watching stuff like this genuinely makes my blood boil. For an example, look up grey squirrels in Europe

I feel your pain man. Activist have a lot of good causes but they also go off the deep end to the point they sabotage whatever progress they achieve on valid issues. Humanity needs to preserve the environment so we can still live first and foremost.
Having grown up in the '80s and '90s in a rural community, *THIS SO MUCH!* I care deeply about nature. Most of the men in my family hunt and fish. They care about nature, too, because that's where they *relax* and get *food for their families.* These are the folks who make *sense* when they try to help the environment, not Greenpeace and other lobbiest-level environmentalists.

There is a different spieces of hippo that isnt dangerous to human, its the north american house hippo. Found mostly in laundry rooms all throughout north America, it eats during the night left over scraps, and its favourit food is peanut butter and toast crumbs. It spends most of the time collecting dryer lint and other soft materials to build its nest.

Good intensions doesn't always guarantee good things but thinking with your own brain seems to be overrated these days and this is why we have people feeling this and that because someone somewhere said so and nobody cares to take time to see things in the broader picture.Thinking is free everyone should try it once in a while.

Animals cannot represent themselves in court, making them unable to defend any supposed rights they theoretically could have.

It took an absurd amount of houseplants and even then it wasn't cutting it and I think it toom somewhere from 4 to 7 algae farms in 55 gallon drums to actually begin oxygenating the room.

Obviously it is but unlike popular belief, the downsides of inbreeding takes quiet some time. Plus hippos produce many offspring in one go instead of just one or many two like humans do.

@@Broomer52 I was thinking about that but cooking prep might be able to make a difference in it to some degree, as well as the amount of meals you could make which might be necessary depending on how much of the environment they destroy or if they drive out other food sources for the people there, got to make do with what ya got on hand at times after all

1) First time seeing the title I thought ok Hippos on literal coke, watching the video and now... Fuck. Okay people don't really actually know about that part of the world and forest there and what happens all the the time and over react to it fine but this is actually a really worrying problem that can't be ignored at some point.
2) This is one of those fine cases where just because it's law doesn't mean it should be followed if the law is either unjust, impossible to enforced or reasons for it are make no sense or doesn't line up with others.
3) The whole point of laws at times is to protect and uphold things for the protections and long lasting of others but what the laws and said protections are getting in the way of that in such a way that the very thing you created that is protecting said something is going as a result of said law or protections are allowing said things to act and promote its risks and harm towards others? At some you're going to have to admit that Draconianism is going to be the answer like it or not.
4) Sometimes it's actually best for the government to ignore people's wishes if they aren't aware of the dangers they are promoting and in fact should be deny the right to vote if they are this idiotic and untrustworthy with the power to vote and not informed on the issues.
5) At what point should we just ignore these idiots and tell them the painful realities they don't want to hear and do things that are objectively needed without hearing or given them a chance after all this time on said issue?
6) Problem of solving the problem we say Columbian government say F the US courts and is willing to do something or allow others to do something about is one how are you going to get the armed groups in said areas to allow people to hunt for them and why should they allow them?
