Salute! Some say tanks are basically a deathtrap now, given things like drones and ATGMs but you still need them to support infantry and I have the greatest respect for those who step up for said role.
People have said tanks aren't useful anymore because anything can threaten it at just about any distance below 4km, but nobody will truly understand the importance of a tank until it's unavailable for support. Even the dated T-55/62 tanks, vehicles without any modern protection systems, are valuable to a military just from the fire support they can provide at a moment's notice when Artillery is unavailable.

Tactics based on mutual support between infantry and tanks is the key. As the Russians have so amply demonstrated, in modern warfare, an army must have both to successfully go on the offensive.
The stress and strain of months on a battlefield with no real rest is apparent on all of their faces. This war is creating millions of victims, the dead and maimed, and the ones with the invisible wounds...
Seriously those soldiers have balls of steel. Those tanks are antiques, and honestly deathtraps if hit.

Tanks in general aren't. Especially that autoloader.
The T-72 and BMP-1 were notorious for trying to stuff the gunner into the gun with the shell. Soviet era tanks were not built with comfort or crew safety in mind, and there are a lot of stories to go along with those early carousel autoloaders.

Tbh not much, it would just be a logistical nightmare...the best thing we could hope for is sending new modern nato tanks to nato partners that still operate soviet era tech and send those tanks to ukraine, nato members can afford maintaining and training crew for those tanks ukraine can not.

The must be tough being in such a cramped space for so long.
And that autoloader may take place of a loading crewman, but it’s also why so many of the T series Russian tanks have an ammo cook off and explode because the ammo is not properly secured.
Lmao they pretty much have a ring of bombs that encircle the turret waiting for that right hit… I’d just be staring at that auto loader just knowing it’s more than likely going to be my demise 😅 brave dudes for sure.
Apparently a lot of the time the crew has enough time to get out of the tank before the ammunition explodes, that being said though, they WILL die if they are in the tank when it explodes. Western tanks at least have blowout panels.
Looks like the new rheinmetal tank has a 3 or 4 crew option so it will be interesting to see if they use an optional autoloader
The ammo is stored in a magazine around the turret, with no proper armoured compartment for it unlike Western tanks, so yes that is why they cook off. The price of an autoloader.

But America Does have MILLIONS of 105mm, 120mm (M-1 tank), and 127mm (Navel deck gun) rounds that can be Sabatized and used in Ukraine's Guns... The U.S. 105mm Projectile using a Sabot will fit the Ukraine D-30 122mm guns adding miles to its range (lighter more streamlined shell). While the much more capable U.S. 120mm Tank round with simple bands around the projectiles will fit both the Ukrainian 122mm Artillery and 125mm tank Guns with about the same range as the Original Shells.. With millions of used Powder Cases for Ukraine Artillery and Tank guns just laying around Ukraine, waiting to be reloaded with U.S. Powders... Then there is Ukraine's 152mm guns that could use the U.S. Navies 127mm Projectiles with a Sabot using standard NATO 155mm powder bags that with half the weight of the Standard 152mm round, could attain velocities out of their 52cal Berrals of 1,200+ meters/sec giving Ukraine's 152mm guns 5 to 10 Miles of additional range... With the New Smart GPS Guidance Fusses the U.S. has for its rounds and the longer ranges, the Smaller, Incredibly Accurate U.S. shells would be twice as effective as the original large, heavy, less Accurate, Russian Shells! The U.S. shells would be Able to hit within a few meters of their targets with the first shot from far OUTSIDE the Ranges of the Original Russian Guns!

First time I've seen the carousel and auto-loader inside the tank. The cramped space is very noticeable and surrounded by main gun ammo!! Pray they never get hit and have the ammo cook off. No wonder all those Soviet era tanks have flying turrets. Crew survival rating is abysmal.
I've only been in a tank once... Total time 3 Minutes... Never had the urge to go back in since.

Not only should tanks support infantry, but the infantry should support the tanks. The Russian army has failed to effectively combine infantry and tanks in mutual support. This has led to major losses of armored vehicles by the Russians and was key in driving the Russians out of northern Ukraine around Kiev and has made their attempts to advance in the southern part of the Ukraine so costly.
Being an infantry screen near tanks is one of the most dangerous jobs you could ever do. Since the Russian forces are very low on personnel, they literally cannot afford to have infantry screens.
