I knew Mr. Davis as a substitute teacher at Arts High School in the 80's and then I saw him now and then as a police officer in East Orange, NJ. I always found him to be outspoken and fair.

Dr Joy, I am invigorated by your content and as a black person this resonates with my on every level. Living in South Florida I have seen many instances undocumented where humanity is abdicated and black people were flogged and in some instances lynched. I may be morbid in saying this but I do believe this; if black people continue to be mistreated in this house called America our youth will burn it down as the younger generations are becoming less tolerable and more militant, I think there’s a universal principle in place that we’re witnessing with everything going on. We as black people are in a war for our humanity and honestly we as black peoples aught to and should’ve already prepared for combat as this principality is being loosened and the power dynamic is shifting ma’am.

Tried “Law Enforcement.” Worked for an agency that hired me and my trainer wouldn’t even train me properly and left me hanging, I requested a different trainer which was denied, I then was stalked but my co-workers via social media and was literally in the Higher up office everyday for just petty bs. I resigned and filed a EOC complaint and I tried applying for like several different agencies and was denied smh they literally shut me out. It drove me into alcoholism and depression which I eventually got over and now I’m happy living my life but I would never ever deal with that nonsense again smh

i just found this. ive followed. Dr. Joy for a few years and each one of her messages are better than the last. she is absolutely brilliant. during this presentation, Dr. Davis mentioned that when the cops come out of the academy and put into the field, since they are trained to be para-military, they are told to forget all their training they received in the academy and are taught to use the tactics in the "real world."
i was a member of the USAF for 12 years. i was selected to be a trainer in my career field because i had a college degree. i excelled to the point that i earned my Master Instructor badge. but one thing i remember hearing is that the recruits i had poured hours and hours into training were supposed to forget their training and tro focus on how the military worked in the field. the exact same thing goes on in both agencies and im sure there's sumilarities.

The first level of policing is the values a people have and the standards they set for themselves in the communities they live in. That we don't police ourselves starting with these prerequisites is a fundamental problem that Black woke intellectuals and activists refuse to acknowledge. It makes no sense to put all your efforts, which are mostly rhetoric into making demands on that which you have no power to force to do anything, while neglecting that which you do have some control over. Another fundamental point is that if racism in all its forms, are our main problem, then our response must be at least highly coordinated. We would do well to focus on fundamental/basic concepts because if we don't resolve these, all else we do means nothing.
The fundalmental idea that we lack a governance structure among us, has been made by Dr. Carr of Howard Univ.. That he hasn't officially raised this point to all of our attention confirms the fact that we are dysfunctional as a group. If you ignore this point and continue on thinking you are doing something that will make much of a difference, from my perspective, you are simply doing the same things over and over, while expecting different results. We all know what that means.

you said : "I will work with young people forever, but if you old and don't you haven't figuered it out don't call me now, dont, do some reading but i'm not dealing with you, im dealing with young people that may not know" that is age discrimination. Maybe old peiole with life experience will bring something to the table that you cant deal with. We talk a lot about "White guilt". But what we don't talk about ENOUGH is Black guilt. It is a guilt which says, "Hey, I've got my degree, I've written my book, I'm on my way... But I feel some type of way about leaving my Black counterparts to face their individual struggles ALONE."
Here's the deal. If we DON'T become preachers, if we DON'T become scientists, if we neglect to become musicians, teachers, politicians, inventors, and entrepreneurs, we have indirectly neglected to exhibit the behavior that our people could model for generations to come. So that, if I have to leave Peaches and Pookie behind for the sake of the struggle, I will do so. Knowing that my LEAVING may call them to a higher standard.
