Niels could do everything with such virtuosity on the bass. That chord playing is as impressive as the blazing solos. He must have been able to break bricks with those hands.

6:36 is why McBride is the Modern Maestro of the double bass. That phrase is unreal. The ending harmonic made me spring off my chair! And NHOP is of course a dearly missed legend. I adore his chordal playing.

Who would have believed we'ed be listening to a bass viol duet? I have listened to NHOP most of my adult life and he along with Ray Brown were the best of their era. Christian McBride is the best of the current crop of bassists. I must pay homage to a young man from the past who I believe would have been one of the best, if not the best but alas, he left us to drugs. His name was Albert Stinson and he played with the Chico Hamilton, Charles Lloyd Quintet in the '60s.

My thoughts, exactly. It's not as noticable when you're the only bassist, but when you're playing with another one, it gets more difficult. NHOP was the greatest, and Christian is awesome, as well. As far as intonation goes, Niels was always on point, IMHO.
