- Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (IATA: BWI, ICAO: KBWI, FAA LID: BWI) is an international airport in the eastern United States. It serves Baltimore, Maryland, and is one of three major airports serving the Baltimore-Washington D.C. metropolitan area. Located in an unincorporated area of Anne Arundel County,[5] the airport is 9 miles (14 km) south of downtown Baltimore and 30 miles (48 km) northeast of Washington D.C.[6][7] It is the busiest airport in Maryland, and the busiest airport in the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area.[8] It is commonly referred to as BWI or BWI Marshall. The airport is named after Thurgood Marshall, a Baltimore native who was the first African American to serve as a justice on the U.S. Supreme Court. This airport also has a heavy population base from the Richmond, Harrisburg and Philadelphia metropolitan areas.
BWI is a focus city for Southwest Airlines, and is the second-largest airport by number of departures for that airline after Chicago-Midway.[9] In 2014 Southwest accounted for 71% of the traffic at BWI.[10] BWI also serves as a hub for Southern Airways Express.[11] A record 25.1 million passengers traveled through BWI in 2016, an increase of 5.45% over the previous year.[12] BWI was ranked as the 23rd-busiest airport in North America and the 75th-busiest airport in the world in 2014 by the number of passengers.[13] BWI covers 3,160 acres (1,279 ha) of land
Patapsco River
The Patapsco River mainstem is a 39-mile-long (63 km)[1] river in central Maryland which flows into the Chesapeake Bay. The river's tidal portion forms the harbor for the city of Baltimore.
Best view of the bay area I've seen to date. 3:21 Hart Miller Island. Based on that I believe this flight originated north of BWI and the video starts out of a view of the north part of the Chesapeake Bay and a view of Delaware and the Atlantic Ocean. 4:34 Chesapeake Bay Bridge.
