With conventional lifting points it happens that the shackle stops when the load is lifted and thus a dangerous transverse load is exerted on it. This can result in large shear forces and bending moments acting on the lifting point, in particular on the bolt, or as soon as the shackle leaves this so-called "worst case" area, it aligns itself abruptly. Both can lead to a sudden sagging of the load or to mechanically caused damage to the lifting point or even breakage.
