Three words to describe this episode......Passion, passion, passion!! Everyone Tommy speaks with are passionate about what they do and it comes out in their eyes and voice...brilliant!!! That countryside machine shop is epic, being an aircraft engineer brought up in a machine shop I can still remember that smell. The dyno room......the sound of the R18 boxer!! The R18 is going to carry all that passion with it. My favourite episode so far. Thank you.
Ah the engine: I own a Boxer Cup Racer that was in the 2003 series. It qualified at Daytona but was never raced so it survived the series. I bought in in 2006 from Max Stratton who owns MAX BMW here in the states. Max got if from a collector. I figured I'd ride it for two years then trade for a "sit up" bike. I've put over 50,000 miles on it myself. I'm seventy years old now and plan to ride it for many more years. Power you can use every time you ride. Every time I ride it I start smiling inside my helmut.
I just bought a Harley Davidson..Yet the pure Essence of the R-18 has captivated me..I await the secret reveal of when this breathtaking stunning yet the simplicity in design of a beautiful motorcycle is available for sale...I must have one! It would be a first BMW for me but I absolutely love the style and looks and the enthusiasm that was put into the building and design of this machine..Having been to Germany this video reminds me of Germany's beauty and the warm Hospitality of the people there...I cannot wait for the next video...
One of the best episodes by far!! True BMW passion and people, nice to have a glimpse of where you developed that lovely engine, grettings from México, hope to ride that R18 soon!!!!!
Checking that engine running in the dyno room has really put this thing to life for me so far. Can't wait to run this bike on a curvy clean stretch of asphalt!
I've got the notification today from BMW Motorrad, i've said that's it !! They going to announce the release date :) This is the best episode so far, can't wait for the next one and maybe the release date!!!
Just noticed few days ago that on every boxer engine, cylinders are not, aligned in the longitudinal axis. So the left cylinder is further ahead of the right one. It’s asymmetrical but, after 30k kilometers and 2 years of ownership, i noticed that while watching a video of surbaru engine on youtube, ot even on my own motorcycle. Thats made this engine even more lovely.
Thanks for this teaser. The bike is absolutely awesome. I am more and more in love. It will be my 7th bike!!! If only, I could find a BMW Motorcycle dealer not too far from me to the level of the brand…
I love how the German guy with the long hair sounds like a Bond villain. Every time he says "Soo Tommy.. this is..." it always sounds like he's introducing a torture device that by which Tommy is to be left to his doom.

Hi Becker Inal, not a bad idea 😉
Fascinating story...the guy who first sketched out the boxer was a design genius.
Hello Oldfogey, he definitely is 😉
Dear BMW team please even when this series comes to an end do more promotions like this
So glad you are enjoying the series! Cheers and thank you for following along.
I purchased my 2023 R18 100 year anniversary last November and absolutely love it !! I enjoy admiring the looks as much as riding it.
