      @@darrylplunkett5676 These vehicles hold their value a little more than the Volvo sedans. Also all used cars are currently up in price because less people are trading in their cars for a new car due to the pandemic. The used car market should settle down in the next 2 years. The 2012 Volvo C30 I got for $13k 4 years ago has only depreciated by 1k-2k because of the inflated used car market.

I think it would sell better if they made a T7 trim that was the turbo and plug in hybrid (no supercharger, as that T6 engine is 100% a government workaround of not having more than a 2.0L engine), this thing would be much better off. It would likely mean no spare as thats where the batteries would be, but considering a lot of people don't even know how to change a tire these days, I think a can will serve the public much better. Also with volvo pushing hybrid everything, I am surprised their smallest and most fuel efficient crossover doesn't have a hybrid yet

I don't even think of it as Chinese, I think of it as a parent company doing well by the brand. That they're in China doesn't matter that much to me. Volvo is back because they have a much better parent company than Ford was.
      Volvos of the 80s, the 760 series, just OK. The 90s, I loved the 850s. These new Volvos are more like the 850 than the 760, so I like them. But they dumped the 5 and 6 cylinder engines. That I don't like.

      The most expensive Volvo sedan is made in China, the s90. But more than that, Polestar, Volvo's performance electric brand, that make the $155,000 limited edition P1, is made in China. The P2, all-electric Tesla 3 competitor will be made in China, too. Interestingly enough, the flagship xc90 redesign, coming in 2022 and probably starting around 60K and going up to 80+K, will be made in the USA. The transmission is Aisin I believe, not ZF. 45mph in a residential area where the speed limit it clearly posted as 30? Setting a very bad example. And T5 is not a "trim", it's the engine selection. The trim level is Momentum, the least expensive trim, which is why there are no rear vents. The white roof is the giveaway; it's only available in the Momentum trim. I agree with others that $33K for a base model with 16K miles is high.

  • @stephenhendricks103
    @stephenhendricks103 Před 4 lety

    Nice car. But calling it a "compact" crossover is a misnomer. At 174" in length, the XC-40 is an inch longer than a Mazda CX-30 and less than 3" longer than a Honda HRV, each of which is a conventionally consider a "sub-compact" SUV. The "compact" class begins at 179" (Mazda CX-5) and stretches to about 185" where the Volvo XC60, Nissan Rogue, and VW Tiguan sit. Further, the rear cargo space isn't 27.2 cubic ft. (10.06) According the Volvo it's 20.7 cubic ft. I think you confused the rear capacity figures with the total cargo space, Joe. You're correct that the total is 47.2 cf. But it's worth noting that a VW Golf R comes in at over 53 cubic ft and it's half a foot shorter than the Volvo.
    Nevertheless, the CX-40 is an appealing sub-compact. And the asking price of $33K for a used example with 16K miles and without a new car manufacturer warranty MIGHT be a good value considering that a loaded version of the lowest "Momentum" trim (which I assume is what you were driving, Joe) has an MSRP of about $45,000. But if I were considering the example you drove I'd want to know why the original owner opted to get rid of it so soon and take such a huge hit in depreciation. And if the example you were driving wasn't fully loaded, the $33K asking price could be as much as about $5K less than a new version without an extensive set of options, with no miles on the clock, and with a new car manufacturer warranty.

      Thanks for your input, but if you go to Volvo's own website this is exactly what they call it.

      @@RaitisRides I'm sure they do, Joe. But that's European marketing speak not an accurate description from a North American perspective. Most of the vehicles we call "midsize" SUV's in the US are considered either "full size" vehicles or are not even sold in western Europe. The VW Atlas, Mazda CX-9, KIA Telluride, and the Hyundai Palisade are not sold there. The Ford Fiesta is a compact SUV in Europe and the VW Golf is considered a "midsize" vehicle with several smaller VW vehicles such as the Polo occupying the "compact" slot.
