I remember reading the manga and Soi was introduced for the first time, and when the teacher said he was there ever since from the start, I looked back from the first few chapters and I saw that he was really there from the beginning and just stood silently in the background.
I had the exact same reaction. I noticed him once but it was before the new room and then I just assumed he was part of a different class and forgot about him again. After the reveal I about screamed "How Did I Not See Him!!" It just makes me that much more impressed with this series!
I don’t know how the animators did it but the way they draw Purson in scenes make my brain unable to perceive him. Even in scenes where he’s in the center, it’s like my mind ignores it completely
I’ll bet it’s because he almost never looks square at the camera. He also spends most of his time in the side frames but either slightly cut off or behind someone else. With everyone else having relatively bright colours while he has muted almost ground dirt colours.
You’re more interested in the colorful characters that stand out more. They’ve gave him full appearances and yet he does nothing. At least until the music arc

Like even watching this and knowing to look for him I almost miss him before the scene is over, I had no idea animators could pull off such magic. I say magic because the root of all magic tricks is carefully directing the viewers attention so they miss the trick, and they did it in a comedy anime across three seasons to set up a single punchline/plot-twist, it's brilliant in my opinion!!

Imagine how much less impactful the Clara Trauma scene would've been in season 1. Doing stuff too early is a pitfall for many newer animes (especially Isekais) which makes them sometimes look really silly. Iruma doesn't suffer from this to an impressive degree. BUT STILL, THIS GOES TOO FAR. HOLY SQUID. It's on the level of the teacher reveal in Gakkou Gurashi.
I mean I knew something was off when Season 1 keep sneakily showing him in the background but never tell us anything about him + him being quiet all the time. Even Agares managed to catch my eye like "Hehe sleepyhead boi" 😂. He is the embodiment of being invisible Iruma strived to be at first season too 😂.

I hadn't read the manga, but I was aware of purson because of fanfiction so I had noticed him several times, but after a while, he completely faded from my view. Hell, I paused at multiple points in this video and still couldn't spot him at a few moments. I love how often he's just chilling in the back while wild shit is happening.

I noticed him off and on throughout, though the first time I really knew that he was deliberately being "unnoticeable" was with the second season (and best) closing theme. The one where they're all in silhouette for most of it (Party Wonderland). In that one, his silhouette appears and disappears, which is what tipped me off that this was moving beyond just a background character, beyond a gag, and into hints that something's going to matter with him.

I was watching the season 2, noticed some character in the opening and I was asking myself "who are you? You will shows up when?" Until the last episode of that season, raging myself at the credits "WHEN YOU WILL APPEAR?" Until saw someone on the corner of the class, and I was "wait, you are already in the show? When?" I search this video and I was not believing. I get spoilers from season 3 (and season 4 in the comments) but it doesn't matter anymore. That was the most well crafted joke I ever seen. This anime is so good.
