The scene where Grog found the deck was even scarier than their first fight with Raishan.
I want him to use it again so bad. Travis takes chances in game and its fun to watch. He's also willing to go with the consequences good or bad.
he can't the magic item says "Any cards drawn in excess of this number have no effect.". by declaring that he had one pull and only pulling one grog has gotten all his chances.
That just meant that at that time, if Grog had pulled more than one card, the other cards wouldn't have an effect.
If he had it now and said he wanted to pull two, he could pull two and their effects would work, but no card effects after the first two would work. Additionally, if he'd said he wanted to pull two and only pulled one, the other card would fly out of the deck and activate on its own.
there is no recharge effect on the magic item. Your interpretation would take way the negative consequences of the deck. Keep drawing until you got the wish and then wish away the bad effect. ie i wish i had drawn the wish card instead of "insert bad card here". Keep wishing until all the bad effects are gone. No one would ever risk drawing 4 cards if you could draw an infinite number of times, the only reason it has a 4 card limit is because you only get one shot at it
aaron jacques I had to go digging to find that! I'd never read any other description besides the 5E DMG, and there are no guidelines restricting players from drawing again in there. My DM let our party draw as many times as we wanted, as long as we declared how many cards we drew :P
Well you were very lucky then, but if you read dmg magic items that recharge tell you how much they recharge, conversely single use items don't have a disclaimer that they can only used once so if it doesn't explictly recharge/renew then it is a single use. In 3.5 we had a lot of fun with a spent deck of many things. we made a full deck (nonmagical copies of the cards) and started playing poker with them at rival gambling houses. The card draws had no effect on us, but oh boy did they play havoc with the rival gamblers.

He actually makes mention to the fact that Grog is LOYAL AF to his word to not pull from the deck, as that's kind of his thing.. So Laura should feel a bit more ashamed, but ultimately, he agreed that Grog is JUUUSUSST reckless enough to not have those cards.... for now, lol.

Idk, I feel like Travice would be totally ok with a random massive detour of their campaign, but everyone else wants to keep it serious and mot have a sudden ridiculous side quest. I can appreciate them wanting to stay on course, but ya gotta have a little ridiculous fun

Nak Attack the deck has a few cards that are just instant character death, unless they edited it to be less deadly.
Baron11704 yea the deck in 5e leans a lot to the bad end of the spectrum. Most of all of the good cards requires you to do something and the bad stuff is instant.

@@xelloskaczor5051 The Deck isn't a tool of mass destruction. It's only dangerous to the one who draws the cards. Only the Wish and Skull cards can really affect the party as a whole and the Wish is 'good' and the Skull only effects the others if they try to join in.

1:39 what is Travis signing? I know enough sign language to recognize it's the ASL alphabet and there's some 'e's and a 4 in there so at first I thought he's signing - along with saying - 'forever' but the last letter he signs is an 'n' and there's some in between that i can't make out

Makes it cooler and makes some of the limitations of the deck usage make more sense. Like why you have to announce how many cards you draw in advance, why you can't see the deck cards beforehand, why you can't draw ever again from the same deck, etc.

I don't know what Grog's passive perception is, but wouldn't that have been used instead of a roll? It'd likely have been better than a 9
Grogs Passive perception is 10, so his modifier is zero. So it all comes down to his dice roll.
I was just curious because Scanlan had to roll sleight of hand (got 20) to tickle Percy's knee during the love potion stuff and Vex didn't have to roll against it with a passive perception of 23. Since she rolled a 9 here, I figured Grog would win that if it was over 9. But then again, I have no clue, I haven't played before.
Bah56 that’s because perception checks are if they are actively looking for things while passive perception is what they just happen to notice. If you roll really low on perception you can’t just use passive perception instead
