I'll try to clear a few things up for you since I have read the WN and watched all the show.
First dealing with the Goddess. In that world she values beauty over almost everything else. What we would think of as super models here, would only be average over there. So with him already being average to us would make him ugly to her.
Second thing about the strain. I'm sure you've seen anime where the MC uses weights to train and get stronger, right? For him that's what it's like being in this world from the time he was born. So when he gets sent to the other world, the weights are pretty much taken off. Now you can see why he's so strong there.
