To answer your question about dying in hell, Vivziepop explained in a stream that sinners are very durable. But, if that sinner was killed with an angelic weapon, as the exterminators use, they would just cease to exist.
And guess who has an angelic weapon in this show! That's right, Vaggie!
For some lore:
Alastor "The Radio Demon" (aro/ace) (demon form is a dear) was a radio host, serial killer and cannibal when he was alive in New Orleans, Louisiana. He died in 1933 while in his early-mid 30's age wise. Originally he died while disposing of the remains of one of his victims, but that was later retconned. Hes a known practitioner of Voodoo and his extremely powerful.
Charlotte "Charlie" Morningstar (bi) (angle form is a "biblically accurate angel" type thing) is the Daughter of Lucifer and Lilith, the two most powerful demons in Hell. They betrayed God in the bible and were sent to hell. Charlie is the only character born in hell in the show (so far)
Angel Dust(Anthony while he was alive)(gay, crossdresser) (His demon form is a spider) Died in 1947 in his 20's. Hes gay and was ostracized while he was in the mob (he was born into a mob family) His signature black eye is due to his sister giving him a black eye in a fight before he dies of an overdose on angel dust
Vaggie (demon form: moth) died in 2014, is a lesbian, is the GF of Charlie, is latino (not much else is known, going into it in show, apparently)
Of course all of this is going off of the old canon (exclusively the pilot for HH and HB) and some of it is going on theories, so take it with a grain of salt
Yeah, you're spot on in regards to Charlie being able to level Katie Killjoy in an instant. She's even stronger than Alastor, power-wise, ranking 3rd in Hell's hierarchy.
Only thing is.... she's too nice. Charlie doesn't want to be mean or hurt people. But she's no pushover when it comes to something she believes in. Which, by my best guess, is her angelic side shining through. (Her father, Lucifer, is a fallen angel)
Hierarchy isn't the same as power, I don't think she's necessarily stronger than Alistair she just outranks him

Well tbf, she was fighting without her demon powers. I think alastor could beat her quite easily if it was base vs base power

37:24 the whole thing with the "volunteering" thing is because both Husker and Nifty are people who basically owe Alastor and although he lets them live their own afterlives for the most part, he can call them at anytime and so he says volunteer his services when really it's more like a, "you're my indebted slave and you're now going to do this for me because I decided that I want you to." Though, all that being said, Alastor's my favorite especially if you undergo the research on him, because he's quite the interesting character

Alastor was a radio host in his mortal life (alongside being a serial killer) and arrived in Hell in 1933 when television was in its infancy, so he prefers radio over television. Because of this he has a rivalry with another overlord, Vox, the guy with the TV screen head seen at the beginning, he's the Television Demon who emerged more recently.

My thoughts are, since he's stuck in a gas mask, he's probably got some sort of easily combustible substance stuck to his clothes.

Yeah, there are a few things to note about how Hell works in this universe.
Firstly there are two major types of demons. The first are Sinners, who are humans who have been damned to Hell after death. When they arrive in Hell they gain a demonic form that usually reflects how they died and is designed to make them hate how they look. Alastor is a notable example, seeing how his demon form is that of a deer, referencing how he died in a deer hunting related accident. Sinners cannot reproduce, are confined to the Pride Ring of Hell and are biologically immortal. The only way they can be killed is through the use of blessed weapons, which angels use during the Extermination, explaining why Hell is so overcrowded.
The second type of Demons are Hellborn, which are exactly what they sound like. These are demons that were born in Hell. They vary a lot depending on how high up the hierarchy they are, but the lower classes are able to be killed with regular weaponry, whilst royals need the blessed weapons described before. Charlie is the only Hellborn in the main cast of Hazbin, but the sister series, Helluva Boss focuses a lot more on how the lower and upper classes of Hellborn live in this world.
The Hierarchy of Hell basically works like this, from highest to lowest:
1. Lucifer. A fallen Angel. The King of Hell and the Sin of Pride.
2. Lilith. The First Woman and Lucifer’s wife. The Queen of Hell
3. Charlie Morningstar. Their daughter. A smol bean.
4. The remaining Six Members of The Seven Deadly Sins. Asmodeus. Satan. Leviathan. Mammon. Beelzebub. Belphegor. They each run a ring of Hell, kinda like Dante’s Inferno.
5. The Ars Goetia. A collection of 72 noble Demon families with very strong magic and rigid sensibilities.
6. Overlords. Powerful demons who have come into being by providing necessary advancements to Hell. Alastor is the Overlord of Radio, because he brought the idea of radio with him to Hell when he died.
7. Sinners. Described above.
8. Hellborn demons.
9. Imps and Hellhounds. The lowest of the low. Often working class or even slaves.
She made a mistake with not taking the deal at the same time because now he’s free to pull trickster voodoo strings there.

When the show got picked up by Amazon, all the voice actors needed to be in the Voice Actors Guild. But that gives Viv the budget to get VAs such as Amir Talai- and Keith David, the original voices VivziePop wanted for the show
