NOTE: Early on in the video, where I talk about good quality of smartphones, I show a water stream with the specs: 4K 60 fps 10-bit. That was a typo. It should have read 4K 60 fps 8-bit. The iPhone 13 Pro cannot shoot 4K 60fps video at 10-bit.

I've already worked on projects where we brought in a couple smartphone clips for a couple projects, one mostly shot on Arri cameras, the other mostly on RED. We noticed the difference but the clients didn't. We weren't trying to fool anyone; just the right tool for the particular shots. Expanding your channel into smartphone videography/cinematography is a good move, imo. Have fun!

The interesting question is, what shots and functions and situations do smartphones handle well, and which not so well? They're just another camera for the tool kit. You're a powerful educator and I'm so glad you're jumping into this field.

Great video again, would be great to hear your thoughts, advice and maybe tutorials for Filmic Pro and the moment apps.
I know there’s many on CZcams, but your way of explaining things is second to none 😊👏👍

When I started recording for my friend’s CZcams channel startup, I started on an iPhone 13 pro max 1tb for the 4K 60 recording, but immediately ran into the issue that when a video is more than 5 minutes long, the file can’t be transferred to my computer (file too large probably)
I had to switch to my old Nikon D3200 while I waited for my new Fuji to arrive.
    Total game changer.
Though the Nikon was usable, I needed the 4K and what an incredible improvement. I could never figure out the Pasm dial, so having the full control laid out for me made me really want to give photography as a whole another try.
(I had given up on it since around 6 years ago, but it’s nice to be back at it)

Use Image Capture app on Mac to transfer the file to an external drive, if HDD space is causing the issue. Not sure how you transfer on Windows with iPhones, but I think there are apps that can access the gallery for you specifically, and you can import from there straight to an external drive. Hope that helps

Thanks! Would love to see your videos on smartphone filmmaking, possibly by 2023 March, when the iPhone 14 and newest Galaxy would be out with the better developed camera tools. Although, considering that Fuji system is the other end of the spectrum in the manner of filmmaking (going from Smartphone Point and Shoot to really pace it down with dials and buttons), it would be interesting to see how you can bridge that for us Fuji users :)

You can use a USB Lightning hub or for Android USB-C hub to expand your Aux/USB and other connections for your phone.
For sure those hubs works really wells, there's a lot but UGREEN and Anker brands are the best on Amazon.
    Wish you good luck! 🌟

Helpful indeed. The negatives tho: I never use the on/off button anyway... and port access: Use an L-bracket (elbow plug) cable? Especially for iPhone 15(pro/promax) there's plenty usb-c elbow's out there. I'd use bluetooth and external ssd for usb-c port tho.

Would it have helped if you used a smaller lighting to audio jack cable in there? Looked like quite a bulky cable you were trying to use.

Question, Chris for the 13 Pro problem of connecting the mic plug, can a Dremel tool fix that problem?
Many Thanks for this program, you read my mind. Using any mobile phone for taking pics or video for this guy is HORRIBLE. You’ve come through again!! 🥳

Thanks for all the info. I'm giving the purchase some serious consideration, BUT, I need a VND filter on it and noticed you had one. Would you supply some information on which one and setup on with the Ulanzi? Thanks!!!

The cage is nice but there's no room to insert the Moment filters holder that clips outside the phone.
In your case you had a Moment case but the brand do not offer these for every phone brand.

Phones don’t motivate me too shoot. I use them all the time for photo and video but I’m never inspired to create with them. However, I have been getting a little bit more serious about my mobile videos for family stuff. I’ve been leaving behind my xt4 and using my iPhone 13 with Rode. I’ve got to say the results are pretty insane. Most ppl think they were shot with my “real camera”.

    Uncle Chris!
    Hi from China.
The brand's name actually has to be pronounced like "oo-lahn-tz", with the "oo" as in "woo".
Anyway, here's some more insight for you!
With mcpro24fps, Android phones can push the limits beyond what's imaginable. But not all phones. Pixel and Samsung are among the worst ones because of poor 3rd party camera app support.
Sony, Motorola, LG and Xiaomi are among the best ones here.
For example, latest two generations of Sony flagships let you record 4k@120fps at 10 bit HDR on the main 24mm shooter.
Mcpro24fps has a dozen of logarithmic profiles and they're much better than what Filmic offers on Android.
Also there's such a thing as MotionCam which lets you shoot RAW footage equal to 1200 mbit/s 12-bit video.
Quite an overkill, and the workflow is quite complex, but since Samsung and Pixel don't properly support 3rd party camera apps, that's the only way to get a much-better-than-stock image quality on video with these phones.
Thank you for your amazing videos! Long-term subscriber and Fuji fan, Mark Victorson from China.
