- Nick Lavery is an Active-Duty U.S. Army Special Forces Green Beret. He's a six-foot-six warrior through and through, with a thorough list of awards that includes the Silver Star, three Purple Hearts, two Bronze stars, the Special Operations Command Excalibur Award, and more. He's also considered the first Green Beret to return to combat as an above the knee amputee - a record-setter with a flair for sacrifice, determination, and selflessness.
Rest assured, Nick recalls exactly how he lost his leg, in an engagement so shocking that it's only counter may be the moments that immediately followed, in a horrifying Medivac incident that nearly cost him his life. But how did he survive? What called him to go back? And how the hell do you go back to being a Green Beret with only one leg? Fortunately for Mike, Nick's got the answers.

Great to spend some time together brother. Thank you for the opportunity.
Thank you Nick for your service. You motivate many people everyday
Nick, who done your ink? I thought my work was about as good as it gets, but damn. I'm also in New Bedford a lot (Commercial scalloper) - are they around there?
Awesome brother from a infantryman to you. Inspirational story when I feel like bitching
Dude...thank you and all of the badasses like you. Your story is important I know that when I get down about the little things in every day life I'll remember this and kick my own ass and get moving.
@@erickiyoshiphillips2323 Thank you for your service brother. Respect 🫡
When times get tough, I like to think "What would Nick do?"
Men like him are inspirational. LFG.
Thank you. Lima Fox Golf
Perfect timing. I’m watching this to avoid Super Bowl propaganda. Have a great evening fellas. 👍🏼
Its everywhere🤦♂️
I hear ya. I never really got into all that crap. My buddies use to say I was gay because I didn't partake in that garbage.
Now a handful of them say I was right all along.
@@toynazi so they’ll watch other men run around in tight pants but they called you gay. I think they were projecting.
@@bodidley5015 🤣🤣
@@toynazi Lol your CZcams name is hilarious.
I've Seen His Jocko, Shawn Ryan Episodes, & His Documentary! He Is A All-American Hero, And Straight Up Bad Ass! So Much Discipline, Pride, Dedication, & Self Accountability. Thank You For Your Service & Patriotism, Mr. Lavery!
Same and I like how Mike asks questions and gets a little different angle from the same stories. Knew right away I would be running this episode today...I am 1hr20m in
@@muriloninja And I Second That, My Friend!
Thank you
What an amazing tale of survival and endurance. I can only imagine those first seconds of chaos in that insider attack.
Thank you
Hellz Yes!!! Nick is the only thing that kept me motivated after I got shot. I saw a pic of him in full kit, in a combat zone, after losing the leg. Knowing that a soldier was willing to put the work in and get back to active duty after enduring the loss of a leg kept me motivated to get up and do the PT, and push to get out of the chair and off the crutches. May the universe Bless him with all her skills and knowledge.
Thank you
@Nick -MACHINE- Lavery Thank you for everything you do, brother. So damn proud of the drive and ethics of soldiers like you, out there defending our interests and helping to further Democracy and a belief in the American dream.
God Bless you Mike, and God Bless ALL of our Patriots!!
These are the heros we need on our wall. A selfless act to save an 18yo kid.
2 Living Legends!
Thanks for your service men.
Real hero's.
🙏🇺🇸
It may sound crazy but I really appreciate the food related stories (pies etc.). I think the food thing humanizes your guests and makes their lives as relatable as they can be even though your guests tend to be very extraordinary. Thank you.
Agreed.
Even Machines need food ! Yea I like hearing about the food memories too. My New England memories had buttered noodles & potato salad with way too much celery salt.
World needs more people like these two. Straight G
Thank you

Loved your story on Shawn Ryan and Love this same story on Mike Ritland. There are slight differences but it's just such a good damn story.
Amazing stuff from Chief Lavery as always. Great interview Mike!
Thank you
I want to get into special operations, school was never my thing so I suck at algebra but Ive owned my own business for the last 10 yrs with some employees so I know I'm capable in the brain. Physically I'm there as well. I feel like I'm being held back from joining because of the algebra part in the ASVAB is there any way to get into special operations with a lower score? Please honest answers
I appreciate you, Mike.

In regards to why there are certain pockets of the city with/without an accent. I’d say if you want to experience what Boston is actually like then visit either the South Shore or the North Shore, so the suburban areas just south and north of the city. Or visit a construction site in Boston, or a Bruins game. Boston nowadays is almost entirely gentrified. The ppl who grew up there 30-60 years ago do you live there anymore. Very few anyways. They live in the towns outside the city and commute to Boston for work.
For example: he said he lived in Weymouth at one point. I grew up and live in Weymouth. 20 minutes south of Boston. It’s way more traditionally what ppl generally think Boston is than most parts of the city.
Southie is not what it was 20 years ago. Old Irish working class ppl do not live there anymore. They can’t afford to. It’s all young yuppie professionals from out of state. Same goes for practically every other neighborhood in Boston: Charlestown, the West End, South End… the only neighborhood that’s even remotely close to what it was in the past still is the North End. Even tho it’s still very expensive to live there, there are still a lot of Italian families and Italian run small businesses present. It’s probably the best and most authentic “Little Italy” in the entire US. Dorchester recently has started to become more gentrified but there are still pockets in that area that remain true to their roots, that’s a very diverse part of the city.
Lol
MORE!
Not clear from the Boston accent whether the name of the dog was Bach or Bark. Mike went with Bach, but I bet it was the other.
Bak
I bet this gets more views than the super bowl.. hopefully
🤘
