One question -when you sew the seam allowance, do you finish off the edges? How do you keep the edges from fraying in the washing machine?

I think...before sew the main and lining together, fold the edges in 1 cm(3/8'') and sew.

The filter pocket is on the bottom. But...Either is fine. The shape is vertically symmetrical.
What type of fabric is this?
I used medium thickness cotton.

I just wished the filter pocket had a better shape. The not sewing gives it the look of undone
Can you show how to make one with straps that you tie at the back please.

tie straps are a preference. I don't like loops over my ears. thanks in advance
Beverley Craig , At 8:36 (where he guides the elastic through), you can leave the ends untied. If you have long enough elastic or yarn on both sides, then you can just take the top ends of each elastic and tie it behind your head. Take the bottom ends and tie behind your neck. -
Alternatively, you can take one long continuous piece of elastic/yarn and thread it through both sides of the mask. So it makes one loop at the chin with open ends hanging out the tops. You’d pull the mask over your head (through the loop), and then take the hanging ends and tie it off behind your head.

Need this in a large size ☹️ this size didn’t fit my boyfriend
i have done it numerous time ,,i am on the large size too.. don't give up.. are you saying its not wide enough, or the height too short, okay try my measurement ; height 7.5" or 8" x width 6"or 6.5"..... remember 1/4 inches allowance .
to avoid wasting your fabric, just do the first layer on a cheaper cloth /fabric to test the fit on his face . Good luck
It’s mostly the sides is too small and a little bit of the height
