I have so much respect for this lad! Not just as a mechanic (diesel fitter) but his entire industrial engineering knowledge. The next generation Fred Dibnah!
this guy could read me the bloody dictionary and I'd listen.. no interest in trucks but Guy makes it sound interesting and his excitement is infectious
I used to stand on my local M6 footbridge as a kid and wait for a 143M to come past, that is what got me into driving a truck. That was some 40+ years ago and here I am still doing it.
He used to sleep in his transit when he was racing the TT. There’s a video floating around on here where he’s painting a friends house instead of doing interviews etc...
Back in the day I had a bang in my scania didn't have the socket to get the bumper off guy gave me his snap on socket and told me to pop it next time I was passing considering I'm from newcastle I've met very few genuine people in my life guy is one of them from the very 1st second you meet him you would give him you're mortgage if he asked for it and I've only spoke to the bloke for about once.
Guy’s such a great person. He has such a passion for mechanics. I wish i had a clue for what on earth he’s talking about when he’s on about the engine and other parts of the truck.
I really love how knowledgeable and enthusiastic Guy is, especially about the trucks which he must never give up. I don't think he ever will though. Mick & Guy seem to have a good working relationship and it's very flexible too. Mick's a good 'un, I reckon they need each other. I can understand Guy having no TV. Nothing but rubbish on unless I'm told Guy will be on, I'm just googling random things like finding the pic of Dante's Daughter at RAF Kirmo. If I'm told something will be on tv, I just do my best to find it on the internet. Guy is my hero, I think I've around 200 photos with another 45 being posted bk to me yesterday from Free Prints app. Every time I get enough, I send them off to be printed and I've commissioned a graphite artwork too. I adore many things about Guy and even understand ASD and probably knew long before he did. I used to drive my whole family up the wall saying 'I'm sure he has it', 'I'm certain he is'. Pleasant to feel fully understanding now, thanks to Guy for that brave reveal. Guys book is the only one I've been gutted to finish and I read it double quick as I got it as an iBook so I had it on both my iPad and iPhone. The best book I ever read. Better than a Barry Sheene one but idk if it was 'official'. At least Guys comes from the words of the man himself. Gena xxxx
Ha... sharpening drills! As an apprentice this was one of the 1st things I learnt back in the 80s when apprenticeships were real and not just a fast track to higher positions. Drill sharpening, drill drift, hacksaw frame, vertical mill collet, learning how to machine brass castings.... etc, etc... lost arts nearly
“Dual clutch” technology was released by Ford/New Holland in November 1992 was called SLE gearbox. And I know for a fact the SDF group same/Lamborghini tractors had it before that also. Fiatagri also dabbled in it too.
I'm with you Guy, as a spanner pusher I like Scania, built by proper engineers , some machines are a pleasure to work on, some built by bean counters should be burnt along with the pricks that made them
What scares me is I’m beginning to understand what he’s saying. In the past I thought I didn’t understand him too well due to his British dialect. I totally respect Guy’s accomplishments at the Isle of Man TT motorcycle race, as well as his abilities concerning everything mechanical.
143M was the best Scanny I ever drove, I hate the modern electrical wagons. No feel or involvement in the drive, you are just a comfortable passenger now. Guy talks sense.
just back 4rm ulster grand prix wat a day guy had 2 super bike wins and also won the super stock race a pleasure 2 watch tearing my local roads up./always welcome with lots of fans around dundrod/WHAT A GUY
Scania V8 or nothing, as an ex mechanic I actually knew what he was banging in about, my headache in the day with gearboxes was the Eton twin split..... oh, & 33° angle on the drill sharpening Guy 😁
Seen a working Scania 113 in immaculate condition doing RORO work coming out of LANDFILL the other day, it looked brand new. Had to take a picture, this was in North Tawton Devon. I was delivering over burden
@K Man you are living in cloud cuckoo land ...a 143 was more cheaply made ie : 1 piece exhaust manifold that was forever cracking...front axle that developed wobbles...stupid intercooler pipes running over the top of the engine ( right where the greatest heat is ) ....badly designed sloping windscreen ....pileof shit
Feel ive got so much in common with Guy but also could learn literally everything from him too. Working with him would be an honour! True passion for mechanical diesel engineering .. the only person that reminds me of Fred Dibnah, and that can sometimes be more than a generation gap between amazing people. Guys a legend !
You are joking, he speaks slowly in this one. When he talks fast, it's his Aspergers because his brain is going too fast for his mouth. Hence he's a very intelligent man but seems to talk rammel but he isn't to someone with an understanding of the Autistic Spectrum.
this chap has a career either way he looks at it.when the bikes are done,he'll have oodles of stuff to get stuck into, proper bloke with a proper brew!!!!!!
+thanxx I was thinking the same thing ex scania mechanic. But they where a great hardie old truck. I liked driving the v8 scania but like working in the 112 and 113. then hated the series 4. when the new gen came i did the training and left.
You can buy alloy backing plates to stop the alloys from seizing to the hub face only problem is getting that plate of in the future. I sat for over 30 minutes with a hammer and chisel removing a alloy backing plate the other week bloody nightmare but I have to say it’s a handy thing to fit if your running alloys instead of steel wheels... since buying backing plates for my show truck I’ve never had to deal with a seized wheel yet. guy if you ever reads this comment you should give them ago I got mines from a guy down at John deer for a few Bob he bought them for his scania and never used them, couldn’t tell you where he bought them but I’m sure you’ll know someone that’ll know someone :)
I always liked Scanias but I liked my Renault Premium for space for my kids in schl hols when I used to be shunting locally at the port.... Not allowed now tho, also I'm now disabled so pretty stuffed. My Dad and my ex were/are truckers. My dad on RH Freight in Notts, firstly he had a 51 plate Renault Magnum and took me and 2 of my lads from Sutton Bridge to Wisbech Roadways, then my dad got a Scania, no idea what model because he called it the nut nipper. Apparently not much comfort for well hung men due to the position of the seat to the pedals. I drove my exes for a day n got lousy backache. My ex now drives a DAF XF, an ex Benton Brothers truck outta Boston, Lincs
I have so much respect for this lad! Not just as a mechanic (diesel fitter) but his entire industrial engineering knowledge. The next generation Fred Dibnah!
I dont think so! Fred Dibnah is a legend
The world needs more people like Guy Martin!
Correct 👍
Any interview I have seen of Guy he always goes off on multiple tangents, super likeable fellow.
Love Guy Martin, he’s just intelligent, wouldn’t say goes of on Tangents at all.
Just likes what he speaks about.
this guy could read me the bloody dictionary and I'd listen.. no interest in trucks but Guy makes it sound interesting and his excitement is infectious
I used to stand on my local M6 footbridge as a kid and wait for a 143M to come past, that is what got me into driving a truck. That was some 40+ years ago and here I am still doing it.
he is the Chief..a fearless legend who knows his stuff.
Really nice bloke fame ain’t gone to his head
He used to sleep in his transit when he was racing the TT. There’s a video floating around on here where he’s painting a friends house instead of doing interviews etc...
Guy Martin for top gear...and also Hugh jackman replacement for wolverine lol
or a brand new show about trucks and motorbikes
Guy Martin is a wanker.
@@blackhatter011 Youre Guy Martins Cuckold
That engine is my childhood .. and he is like my dad on the pub
Didn't give the socket back then?
if you had spoken to him twice ,,, he would have got his socket back on the second chat.
Carlos stop lying 🤥
i could watch this for an hour - please come back to TV
He really comes alight, in this, who knew fixing trucks was so cool?
I can't believe it's taken me so long to see this. Guy's as fascinating & entertaining as ever. Tops!
Best Euro truck ever made the gorgeous 143 500, a total delight to drive I absolutely loved them !
Make you right & loved my first 140, always had the roof vent open so i could hear that growl (who needed a radio in a 140)
it for sure had a great engine but terrible transmission especially its oil cooler. Mercedes SK and later Actros MP1 was far better.
It ain't a 141
I didn't know WTF he was on about but he made it sound fascinating !
Guy Martin explaining a planetary gearbox is the best thing i've seen/heard this year.
He could be the presenter at an insurance seminar and I'd be mesmerized - Guy, you are the man!!
Guy’s such a great person. He has such a passion for mechanics. I wish i had a clue for what on earth he’s talking about when he’s on about the engine and other parts of the truck.
Guy martin makes anything and everything interesting.
What a great character. And awesome TT rider.
Love this guy could listen to him all day long
Guy gets so excited talking about all things engine, which is a nice sight to behold..
I really love how knowledgeable and enthusiastic Guy is, especially about the trucks which he must never give up. I don't think he ever will though. Mick & Guy seem to have a good working relationship and it's very flexible too. Mick's a good 'un, I reckon they need each other.

Epic knowledge mate!!!
The mans a legend
... in his own mind.
I drove a 143 Scania 450 V8 for years but the 500,s were rare, X Rennie Hogg motor been to the moon and back on continental , Great motor and engine.
Guy Martin. Number one in the world bar none! In all aspects of life. I love him. The ultimate petrol head
Ha... sharpening drills! As an apprentice this was one of the 1st things I learnt back in the 80s when apprenticeships were real and not just a fast track to higher positions. 80`s ? I did mine in the 50s.

Guy Martin's passion for trucks makes me more interested in trucks than I ever havent
143M was the best Scanny I ever drove, I hate the modern electrical wagons. No feel or involvement in the drive, you are just a comfortable passenger now. Guy talks sense.

WTF! i'm italian and this is a good place to learn this crazy english!
Guy is spoton with the diesel useage of these modern engines, the common rail engines on my farm drink like bloody fish!!
His absolutely gorgeous
" Having to add more diesel to get better emissions which is madness" Spoken so true.
Guy Martin great guy i wish i could meet him one day he is a awsome guy
GM top bloke. Can really see his passion for trucks and engineering.
Diya see? Diya see? Diya see? Could watch/listen to guy Martin all day!
Certainly love a monthly dose of guy
Legendary 14.2 litre engine.
Scania V8 or nothing, as an ex mechanic I actually knew what he was banging in about, my headache in the day with gearboxes was the Eton twin split..... oh, & 33° angle on the drill sharpening Guy 😁
@Dee Jay *DSC14
I think Guy Martin is the ony person in the world who can make tractor gearboxes sound interesting! :)
Seen a working Scania 113 in immaculate condition doing RORO work coming out of LANDFILL the other day, it looked brand new. Had to take a picture, this was in North Tawton Devon.
I was delivering over burden
What a legend guy martin is he knows his stuff and hes certainly not big headed like.
I would drive the 143 anyday!
This man moves at my speed. I'd love to meet him but sadly I'm across the Atlantic
He certainly knows his stuff!
Guy, your dad was right.....Greatest engine ever !!!
Have no idea what he said but I loved every word
143 best scania ever by far.
Sean gsi...a 143 is a cheap 141
@K Man you are living in cloud cuckoo land ...a 143 was more cheaply made ie : 1 piece exhaust manifold that was forever cracking...front axle that developed wobbles...stupid intercooler pipes running over the top of the engine ( right where the greatest heat is ) ....badly designed sloping windscreen ....pileof shit
@K Man my 141 had 731bhp at the back axle ....you've never driven a proper truck...
Certainly knows his stuff, what a legend!
This guy is awsome.
Interesting video. Some older trains also have a four speed epicyclic gearbox.
Class stuff.
Im literally hanging on for dear life keeping up with him. And I thought I was mechanically minded! lol. Nothing compared to him.
Nice lad,Guy,but l was surprised with his lack of knowledge here.....
Lovely truck though. The 143 is arguably the best truck ever built👌
My hero.
Feel ive got so much in common with Guy but also could learn literally everything from him too. Working with him would be an honour! True passion for mechanical diesel engineering ..
the only person that reminds me of Fred Dibnah, and that can sometimes be more than a generation gap between amazing people. Guys a legend !
when guy says proper he means perfect!
Guy talks rather fast in this video, so I tried turning on the subtitles. Hilarious
You are joking, he speaks slowly in this one. When he talks fast, it's his Aspergers because his brain is going too fast for his mouth. Hence he's a very intelligent man but seems to talk rammel but he isn't to someone with an understanding of the Autistic Spectrum.
Just turn the speed down to 0.75 - it works a treat.
Man knows his stuff
this chap has a career either way he looks at it.when the bikes are done,he'll have oodles of stuff to get stuck into, proper bloke with a proper brew!!!!!!
Got 100% when I unplugged my phone, spent 60% watching Guy. Time well spent.
the mans amazing really, race driver and intellectual mechanic -
I even think Jeremy Clarkson would enjoy listening to Guy talk about engines and trucks!

Haha ur not the only ones, me to we've unfortunately just replaced our 6 wheeler 93m with a 124L bulk tipper
+thanxx I was thinking the same thing ex scania mechanic. But they where a great hardie old truck. I liked driving the v8 scania but like working in the 112 and 113. then hated the series 4. when the new gen came i did the training and left.

T45 Leyland Roadtrain NTE 320!! Proper job!!
Your Dad was right. Greatest engine ever created by mankind.
ahah yeah it's up there at the top, but then I saw a Merlin (Rolls-Royce spitfire engine) in real life... They are amazing too!
You can buy alloy backing plates to stop the alloys from seizing to the hub face only problem is getting that plate of in the future.

3:18. . I am impressed. . . anyone who can "freehand" sharpen a drill-bit is talented. .
Reminds me of Fred Dibnah does Guy, down to earth & smart.
