Command Z what you said was the white one is better. You said it was softer, the buttons were better the spin thing was bigger, the switch was taller, and it's not the knockoff it's the real one.

Fidgeting actually does help you focus, but fidget spinners were actually banned in my school though because they were actually a distraction.

I think the reason is bc in my school they were trading fidget spinners like pokemon cards and they were also bringing the LOUDEST ones
I think it’s good all these fidget toys were invented and created, I sure as hell needed ‘em as a kid but they weren’t invented yet when I was little (in the mid 1990s, even funny pencil toppers weren’t allowed because it was too distracting in most teacher’s opinions). The brand fidgets are really good. The official Zuru ft. Antsy toys fidget cubes cost 7 to 8 euros here (Belgium), which is about $8 to $9.
Just got this in an update from Antsy Labs:
"Just a quick note for those who have received Fidget Cubes that aren’t mounted on the platform in the packaging. This is something we are working on. In drop/shake tests, Fidget Cube stays attached perfectly, but we are now beginning to think that the extreme temperatures experienced in a plane might be interfering with the integrity of the adhesive. We are working on this, but unfortunately it’s not a quick fix (which is a real bummer, as we spent a lot of time designing the packaging to play a large part in the Fidget Cube experience)."

before i read this comment and checked his sub amount i thought he had thousands he deserves more.
They took so long because AntsyLabs wasn't expecting to make $4m and have 60,000 units they needed to make. They hoped to make enough to get 1,000 units going. So, they got overwhelmed in about 40 days. Then, they found a flaw and had to stop in order to make sure their product was quality. I appreciate them.

the story is that antsy labs commissioned several manufacturers (i think?) to make the cube, but when they couldn't make them how antsy wanted them to feel, and have good quality at the same time at a mass production speed, they moved on to another manufacturer. the one (or ones) they denied was (or were) salty and decided to make them anyway and sell them themselves. when you buy a knock off, you're not guaranteed that they'll feel "good" as they don't care about quality, just manufacturing and selling it
I heard the contractors didn't build one of the mechanisms up to quality standard. They decided to fix it instead of sending out subpar products

Man, that price difference is gonna kill Antsy Labs. That's why they need a patent and defend it. yes it costs money to do do both but it protects you in the long run. Antsy Labs has to charge a higher price to pay back all their development costs. where the Chinese companies just had to figure out how to make it cheaper which they always do, usually by lowering the quality. looks like here though the loss of quality isn't that much compared to the cost. I might get the knock off because like he said in the vid you could get 3 for their price also considering if you have to pay shipping it's more worth it to get 3 items instead of 1. I assume Antsy Labs did not patent this since there's so many knockoffs out there now. I honestly thought the gray and black one that came in the white box secured was the original. I've been doing research to find where these things came from so I could get the highest quality one. but now I'm having second thoughts since the price I'd have to pay is huge. It'd be easier to do if they were the only option out there... but there are very similar quality cubes out there with significantly lower costs.

I wish they had these when I was in school especially for my brother they're amazing for things like adhd and autism etc
my only worry is the popularity with kids who just play with them rather than actually helping will eventually get them permanently banned at schools and confiscated from everyone

I agree, and initially found it frustrating that they were just being used as a toy. I quickly came to the conclusion, that popular things will be played with for now and forgotten about in a few months. The people that actually need them will continue on using them, for a very long time. I guess if it is not hurting anyone, I can learn to live with it ;) I think that schools, especially teachers, should be able to pick out those that need them vs that just play with them by simply knowing there students.

lame, in washington state they are required to offer a fidget type device to kids that need them. :)
admittedly i have been ordering the cheap ones and knowing there are people who get both and compare to show others is great. some of the people that want one are not caring about it being a cheap fidget cube but we do hope to get the money to order the proper ones one day.
i would say if you have the money get the proper ones from Antsy Labs, but for a lot of people money is an issue which is why the cheap knock offs are good.

Hey guys! so a few things: I'm one of the backers from Kickstarter. The reason it took so long to send out and they're STILL sending out cubes is because the original ones they had were not up to standard so they decided to redo the cube to make sure the quality was good, if you were a backer they sent updates/emails to let everyone know. I got the two I ordered a few days ago, I love the cube, it really helps with my anxiety or for my boredom. in the long run getting the real one would work because they're made to last, that's why they took so long to fix them, the knock offs work just as well but you can see the difference in quality and if I dropped a knock off I'd be more worried about breaking it than me throwing my official one. Hope this helps!

The knock offs are so so much better for the price point, it just got the more important things better imo.

I just found one of these in the trash (bulk trash pickup) and it appears to be an authentic one (matches all the qualities of the real on in this video), but it also has a long number printed along one edge that ends in "CHINASZ". No clue whether it's truly real or a very good imitation. It's made out of transparent pink plastic.
BTW, you mention the depression for rubbng with your thumb. When I was young, all the kids used to do that with Smarties candy. Smarties were little (maybe 1cm) round candies with concave sides. They were hard, but not sticky like a lollipop. If you crushed them, they would crumble to a powder, kind of like a children's vitamin. They had a really smooth texture and it was relaxing to hold one between your thumb and index finger and just kind of rub it around. :)

I always pen tap in class and I have gotten really good and I spin my pencil I can't go for a minute without spinning or tapping something I need one of these bc my teacher gets so triggered LOL

i've never noticed i have a fidget problem. My girlfriend recently pointed it out to me, and thinking back, i remember always doing something, shaking a pen, tapping my fingers, shaking my leg. I've heard of these and wanted to see if it's actually worth paying for the original, or if the knock offs were just as good. Your video was a big help, thank you.

Thanks for the thorough review. I am ordering one for a 5 year old and was concerned about the safety aspect. Some knock off products are not manufactured properly and if they easily come apart those small parts can be dangerous for younger siblings. Seeing the "seams" made me decide for sure to order the antsy original as it appears to be much more durable. And, besides, I always like to support the independent businesses when I can. Your video was detailed, precise and covered all of aspects of both products.

I would like to know what the velvet stuff is called too. I even have it on a book. I don't know if I like it or hate. It sort of makes me feel icky like when I get lots of done dust between my toes and feet.
So I looked it up on finished and it is called a silk coating. It's not actually silk just feels like it.

I have a rip-off $2 one, and comparing it to the real one here are some notes:
-Switch doesn't flip all the way in. Not really bothersome.
-Dial feels a bit loose and cheap. I can overlook that.
-All of the buttons click, not just 3, which means I could bother some people. One X
-Ball and gears are okay, gears feel a bit more rough but ball doesn't click. Alright.
-Smooth stone-like on bottom is amazing. Good.
-Top joystick is a bit loose but still works good.
-Took forever to get to my house, but I'm willing to give it half an X since I had a genuine fidget spinner in the meantime.
Overall rating: 3/5
I would say it's sorta worth it, it's like 11 times cheaper so hey.
Anyone else have opinions on it? If so feel free to reply.
EDIT: If I flip my cube upside down then I can click the ball, but not the same and is noisy. I guess it's just a workaround.

We bought 2 of the knock-offs you show here, and we love them! They do feel very nice since they're made with silicone, and we like how each side functions. They seem sturdy. My kid carries it at school all day, and my husband keeps it in his pocket when he's not using it. It was an Amazon Prime item when we ordered.

I have a different fake with a joystick more flush with the cube like the real one and it doesn't have that coat of soft texturing. I got it at a convention. I really wish I had saved the box, it's a really, really good one and I only paid ten bucks for it.

My fidgeting is extreme when I was in 4th grade I would have mountains of notebooks full of handwritten stickman comics and pencils with bite marks. I also had the habit of tapping my table with my fingers.
are you describing me, because that was totally me in school. I think I still have a notebook full of doodles somewhere. I also tapped my heal on the ground (bouncing my leg) This things helps me immensely.

same here received an aqua one 3 days ago and when i opened it the cube was soo secure on these sticky pads it was quite the task getting it off the holder im very proud of antsy labs resolving the issue with the cube coming loose for everyone before.

I know in my high school it's pretty loud in most of my classes so the clicking aspects wouldn't matter very much. Also I have strong ADHD and anxiety and the different aspects that neurotypical people would find useless are very calming and helpful when it comes to focusing. As with ADHD my brain is working too much so I need something mindless to do with my hands that will help me focus in daily things. I can't focus on things that "normal" people can. Such as class, movies, long conversations, long songs, and many more things that seem easy to other people. So having all those different things I can do would help very much
I sorry you suffer from ADHD, my son has a mild case of it and is the reason we bought these to begin with. even the generic one works really well, that is the one I use. And they just dropped the price to under $5 for those.

I've had a knock off for a while and just got my real one. Most of the "clickyness" of the knock off wore out pretty quick. The switch for example is completely worn out. Not sure how the real one will hold up, but so far it feels sturdier

I bought my Antsylab cube for AU$13 today at a local department store (Kmart) and after hearing about the knockoffs with poor QA these official are far better. However considering I almost paid twice the price to buy them from Kickstarter directly they're not worth ~$25ea

Any updates on how they both held up?
I should do a follow up on both. So the AntsyLabs version (black and green) seems a bit more durable as it has been dropped dozens of times and used for weeks on end with no signs of degradation. Except for the lighter colored one (remember we got 2 Antsy labs cubes) seems to look dirty very quickly. So I suggest getting a darker color. The generic version still works, however it seems to not take abuse nearly as well. The joystick is slightly bent now and the seems are slightly larger. Another few months and I think it will be in pieces. Being a lighter color, it took gets dirty very quickly.

I purchased two from Walmart for 10$ each: one for me and one for my nephew. Antsy Lab ones. the packaging didn't have glue, but rather five holes and a plastic bracer above to hold the cube in place. Out of all the toys, I noticed only one or two that were loose inside their packages.

I have one of the knock off ones. only had it for like a day and the joystick has gone sticky and squeaky. bugs me a lot, going to get the real one hope the joystick doesn't have the same problem.
try one (1) single drop of oil down the hole where the stick is. it may fix it. DO NOT USE WD-40
I think my cube is a knock off (came in the white box), but I just paid shipping which was the equivalent of your Amazon $8 price. Ordered mine from GearHero. I also bought a fidget cube case which is black with a piece of firm foam and a cutout for the cube to fit into snugly and it zips and is a semi-hard case (similar to a camera case). the case was $6.95. I first saw the Fidget Cube on the CZcams channel HowtoADHD (love them!) I just 4 more from GearHero last night in different colors for gifts and in the event that my son (or I) lose one or forget one at school or work. I am liking this video very much and am not disappointed in the knockoff at all. I would however be pretty upset if we lost an authentic cube. I do wish the knockoff was called something else because I thought I was getting the authentic cube prototype, thought my money was going to the inventors.

Just got my legit Fidget Cube. There was a decently strong adhesive where the five buttons are. I almost didn't know if I was supposed to just slowly pull off the cube from that plastic stand thing, so I did. Easy to take off the cube in case it stuck to the cube instead of the stand.
I'm hyped! currently waiting for my fidget cube though i don't have a disorder or anything but it is a really fun toy to play with when you are at the bathroom taking a dump and you forgot your cell phone.

You know, its 5 years later and I actually bought a real one from a toystore near me. They did end up adding some plastic that stabalizes the cube :) I also like different things and wish the joystick was different because rn its very unsatisfying. I have it on my desk and its very nice to have at random times!

Omg I was playing with my fidget cube all throughout this video. As a person with anxiety, this "toy" has been a godsend for me, giving me multiple ways to release my excess stress energy. I see it more as a tool than a toy, unlike those stupid fidget spinners. Really enjoyed this video!
