  • I have owned 3 Roombas. A Red, a 2.1 Blue, and a 520 (or maybe it's a 530). I gave away my 2.1 after 4 years and it was still working! I still have my 10 year old Roomba Red and my 7 year old Roomba 520! Both still work great! All they have needed over the years was brushes, filters, and batteries.

    Glad your Roombas have lasted. I had 3 Roomba Discovery’s (One white, two dark grey) back in the day. The white Roomba died a few months in, IRobot gave me a grey one. The grey one died immediately after the warranty. Then I purchased another, my 3rd unit, which died a month after it’s warranty. I gave up on robotic vacuums for years...until the technology improved. My Dyson 360 Eye is Going into it’s 3rd year and is trouble free.

    I have a Roomba Red too! Used it ONCE many years ago, can’t charge battery or something. Replaced battery TWICE, works until the new battery loses charge, then… not thing. I’d love to see mine work.

      Mine was still working until 2 years ago. Sadly, I was using it by my front door, which has stairs. Used it here hundreds of times. This time it fell. Then it was acting funny. So, I retired it. Used it for around 15 years. I replaced it with a Eufy 11S which is a simple robot like the red, just way newer. Works amazing. Zero issues. Still on original battery after 2 years. And was only 125 bucks.

    Does the Roomba still work today? I’m thinking of picking up one of these at my local store and the Roomba red is one of the ones I can get.

    • @earthling1984
      @earthling1984  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes, both still work... up until a month or so ago when the red fell down the stairs. :( Now the red acts a bit funny. But thats my fault, its sensors were probably dirty because I hadn't cleaned them in who knows how many years.
      But yes, these things just keep going! I will say I purchased a Eufy 11s for $150 and have been very happy with it in the one hardwood floor I use it in now. Now, I don't know how long it will last compared to a roomba.

      Old comment I know. But, I had my Red in storage for about 2 years (2018 - 2020) due to the battery going bad. I had a Neato so I didnt need the red anymore. But now I moved and have a furnished basement (rather than just a single floor at my old place that the Neato took care of). I got a new battery for the Red and it is working like new, and, cleaning for over an hour. Still sucks up dirt and dust like new. 15 years old (used probably 11 of those 15 years) and going strong! All original parts (except filters and brushes).

    My Roomba Discovery lasted for 4 or 5 cleanings... That's with a thorough cleaning of the Roomba between each run... I shit you not...
    Oh, how long did my Scooba 390 last, I hear you ask? 2 cleanings...
    I opened both up, tried to repair them, no luck... (used german and english forums to diagnose faults).
    Long story short: Fuck iRobot... Got a neato D85 (D80) on the way now with 5 years of warranty...
    PS: I'm literally STUNNED to hear how long your Roombas lasted... Also, I have ZERO pets, live seperately from my girlfriend and have hardwood floors everywhere in my flat... So compared to your house, my home should have been paradise for the Roomba/Scooba...

      mcbrite I have a neato as well, but only had it for less than a year. can't say how long it will last. I also have a roomba braava which has been great for many months so far, working like new, love it. My roombas I've had like 8+ years, used them in 3 homes, and still going strong!

      Earthling1984 I'm almost angry at your Roomba Luck... Jealous is probably a better word... :D
      Watched your vids on the Neato before this one... Pretty amazing! Can't wait for it to arrive! May even be a tiny bit better than the one in your video... I believe it should have a different brush, little stronger suction (software change only) and maybe more resilient bumper sensors...
      Made any additional observations on the Neato since you filmed those videos?
      Thanks for making those, by the way! Much appreciated!

    • @earthling1984
      @earthling1984  Před 9 lety +1

      Neato still working like new, haven't had any issues. I use the combo brush and I clean it every run or two. I looked up the D. I see they say they made some type of improvement to brush system, but not sure what as they still use the same brush I believe. But yeah, I think it's more of a marketing thing, but I'd get the D as well if I was buying now. So far, it sucks better than my roombas, and it navigates so perfectly always returning home (my roombas always return home as well... well, unless they randomly get stuck somewhere, which can happen to either roomba or botvac, but rarely does).

    • @mcbrite
