About this Album:
Haydn’s compositions for piano trio and his pioneering work in the genre of the string quartet are well known. However, he also left a considerable body of work for chamber ensembles that do not fit comfortably within the sonata, trio or quartet category. This release explores some of these early and fascinating hybrids.
One thing all the works have in common is that the piano is the centre of attention. Written for Count Morzin the Divertimento Hob.XIV:1 adds two horns to the traditional piano trio. They have some virtuosic passages, similar in fact to the contemporaneous Symphonies Nos. 31 and 72. Presumably these parts were written with particular horn players in mind. and Count Morzin’s orchestra possessed some of the greatest horn virtuosi of the time.

Haydn was pretty good. It's a pity that most people don't realise that.
I have become increasingly fond of his magnificent work as I grow older.
Likewise, Händel.
Both have been overshadowed by Mozart and J.S. Bach but I revere all four of these musical geniuses and pioneers.
Haydn: an international language if ever there was one!😷👌👵
Haydn was an employee of Nikolaus I, Prince Esterházy, a music lover and amateur bariton player for whom Haydn wrote many of this chamber music where the piano was the central instrument. The set of compositions that are included: Concertinos, Divertimentos and Quintets, whose music is of an incomparable grace, elegance and delicacy that only a genial and fabulous musician could have composed. The chamber music had more intimate characteristics and was performed by a reduced number of musicians, invariably without a personalized conductor, the group being directed by one of the players in the group. Câmara Music was called “music for friends”.
This set of pieces composed by Haydn is amazing, transmitting us an indescribable sensibility, joviality and joy that only a fantastic musician like Haydn was able to write.
The interpretation of the musical pieces is superb. Viva Haydn and his incomparable music. Thanks for this recording that gives us moments of indescribable pleasure.
Thank you for your insight. Very interesting and much enjoyed.
Haydn at his best in a prodigious performance.
Each second of it is a treasure...
The adagio at 1h10 lasts 5min while it feels like a life.
The recording is as clear as a bell. Lovely jolly Haydn .

Gems. Haydn's natural, unforced, musicality shines.
You've said it all!
Love Haydn,never get enough
"if God gave me a joyfull heart he will fogive me if i sing to him with joy "..................this was said by Haydn himself when some people pointed out his masses were too "noisy ".............no more comments needed ,he himself explained it all........thanks Papa! , you did make generations happy ........and will !!!!!!!!!.........FOREVER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A very good day to all Haydn lovers, I am listening to Haydn music I did not known.
My sentiment exactly-this is the best discovery since first hearing the trios decades ago, the the piano sonatas. Thanks Brilliant Cs.
I didn't know or haven't known
Это волшебно! Легко ! Это звонкий ручей и зеленая трава , солнечный день , аромат полевых цветов , роскошные костюмы , красивые лица ... Это счастье ! Эта музыка вне времени .

Haydn was immensely but naturally talented and hugely prolific and most importantly, his music is plainly and frequently breathtakingly beautiful!
Mozart absorbed so much of Haydn's music, it's almost improper that Haydn is in his pupil's shadow.
And happy.
Agreed, one of the great ones. I love The Philosopher symphony.
@@lizwiener2364 yes, yes, yes...

Mozart was not Haydn’s pupil, and neither is in the shadow of the other; although contemporaries, they actually have rather less in common than most casual listeners suspect.
Almost two hours of mind-expanding music. Pure, unadulterated Haydn!
Great remark!
You're right, I can feel my IQ growing with each divine passage.
The recording quality, in addition to the playing, is excellent, probably better than two sets of trios I have.
@@rsjmd Yes, it is better. No integral of the Trios has a perfect recording quality. It is a pity.
@@MrPianoMatt12 this comment honestly made my IQ shrink.
What I love about Brilliant Classic most is the fact that without big house-hold names but with so many truly wonderful musicians they make classic music enjoyable AND affordable and you can get first class quality for a small budget! And their catalog is quite impressive! Big praise and thank you so much!
I agree completely with you ! The name is apt: "Brilliant"

Wunderbar gespielt. Habe richtig Freude daran!
heard this a 100 or 1000 times? always new, fresh, a pleasure...
This collection makes me to rediscover his music which I loved dearly many years ago while a graduate student...
Life comes full circle. For me the very first piece I heard (at 1 year's old) was by Bach, and now I have returned.

A marvel...a sublime gem...Franz Joseph Haydn was from the Classical period. He was instrumental in the development of chamber music such as the piano trio. The true spirit of the Classical period: transparent, free of fear, serenity; like PLATO says 'Music must be felt, it penetrates the soul and cleans it!
... and Haydn can claim to be the father of the string quartet
@@clavichord And the classical symphony too. But the most important is his Spirit. It brings me joy everytime...
@@Alix777. I'd probably say CPE Bach is a good contender to be called the father of the Classical Symphony.. He definately influenced Haydn.
@@clavichord Luigi Boccherini was the real father of the string quartet, but his friend Haydn was certainly the step father!!

Haydn's music is sometimes a bit anonymous, but here he reaches his best. Thanks for loading it
Haydn is never less than a highly professional and thoughtful composer whose standards almost never drop; his unique compositional fingerprints are quite easy to identify with a little experience.
Haydn is a genuine ‘A’ list composer specifically because his music is NOT anonymous.
That said, in the great scheme of things, these attractive little pieces here are little more than shavings on the master-carpenter’s workshop floor, but the performances are superb in this important recording.
Haydn, maestro de maestros.
Haydn it's really joy!
Delightful, cheerful, just what I need right now
When I was a younger man (cuando era joven) I spent much time with Beethoven, Bach, and daring novels. Now I am older, and find Hawthorne enchanting, Haydn intriguing, and a growing awareness of the need for kindness in how I live my life. Not a bad turn at any point.
You sound like you were around at the time when Beethoven and say Chopin were "daring novels". Then you turned to Hydn...
Thank you ...less words the better sometimes.
No puede ser mas hermoso!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!......desde Buenos Aires....Argentina...
This brings me so much joy. Thank you.

Güzel Müzikler. Teşekkürler. ( Beautiful Mussic. Thanks.)
BRAVO !
Délicate et élégante. .
Haydn at his most lyrical, gently witty & simply - happy! Wonderfully performed, by these players whom BC has once again "discovered," for me, at least. Thanks to all.
I had an architecter major friend when I went to UWMil. who loved Haydn and Mozart over Bach and Beethoven. I often happen to wonder what kind of music collection he has.
@@lewisschultz1241 As merely 1 architect, one goes to Bach & Beethoven (& Stravinsky, Handel, Thelonious Monk, Muddy Waters...) for the concept of the design; one has Mozart & Haydn (& Corelli, Palestrina, Tallis, Steely Dan, Mose Allison...) to listen to while cranking out the details & spec.'s. Go figure.
Listening is a great joy, i have Haydn famous Trumpet concerto, piano sonatas Lola Odiaga, the best ever, and horn concerto, super virtuoso... what i am really missing is ...drama.... Only Mozart, ooonnnly Mozart!!!!
@@lewisschultz1241 why did this composers go to Austria, why not Germany, they prevered Austria
@@busodelor1977 Haydn was born in Austria and "Hofcomposer" from Fürst Esterhazy, who paid and give him a house and all he need for his life.
here where so mutch great composers in Vienna becouse Habsburg Imperators paid and honourd them well. Vienna was a town full of musik and art in that time.
Breathtaking. The pets simply bask in the melodies.
With Haydn’s influence, it’s astounding he’s been relegated to the shadows of so many geniuses.
Poor Papa!
If I may: Haydn as the Stan Musial of composers, overshadowed by Beethoven (Ted Williams), Bach (Babe Ruth), Mozart (Ty Cobb), Handel (Joe DiMaggio), Schubert (Willie Mays), Brahms (Hank Aaron), Chopin (MIckey Mantle), etc. Just a playful analogy, that amused me to think of.... Please don't take too seriously!
@@PabluchoViision Awesome analogy. But who is Vivaldi? Shoeless Joe Jackson for his naughty exploits.
Not sure which part of the world you’re writing from, but it must be pretty much the only place Haydn has been ‘...relegated to the shadows’.
Haydn is pretty much universally accepted as a genuine ‘A’ list composer, and with the publication of complete Urtext editions, the recordings of almost all his music in both original instrument and modern performances, along with about 75 years worth of scholarly work, and new biographies, his true stature and genius today is better understood than at any time since his death in 1809.

I loved your pianism, maestro. Hope to see and hear more of you. What is the trio doing these days?
Cello Haydn is super with piano too, I love then.

Estupendos todos los conciertos.
My goodness im glad i found the works of Hayden. Ive fallen completely in love with his work. 💙
Eric The Roman yes he is quite a pleasant surprise to the virgin ear (of *his* work ) I heard each and every one these lovely pieces for the last 20 years ONLY on harpsichord and - until 20 mins ago had no idea this was a thing with strings and piano ; Actually my CZcams “find” of the week. .
Haydn actually has some delightful and interesting choral works ( when you have like 8 or 9 mins to spare check out his “Te Deum”- that should even suffice for the ‘non-classical’ and baroque aficionado like myself
PS. The year was 1998I had just turned 18 less than six months previous, and was fresh out of boot camp when I purchased my first Haydn CD. I had played some junior to senior level Haydn on piano but the collection of the “divertimenti and concertini”. Contained on that cd ‘cemented’ him as one of the (my) greats along with (Bach, Chopin, Mozart, Vivaldi, Handel, Scarlatti, Ravel) which is lofty company to be associated with.
