Since we forgot to repeat it again when the movie starts, for all those that skips intros and therefor all the context given,
Simone has seen this when she was a kid, George has not as back in 2001 his family had yet to migrate over to Canada from China.

To get all of Boo's "dialogue", they strapped a microphone to the then 2-year-old Mary Gibbs, and followed her around for hours on end, then spliced together her various burbles, giggles and utterances as needed (plus a few prompted phrases). Some of these recordings have been used for other Disney/Pixar infant characters, like in Lion King 2 and Kingdom Hearts 3. And of course, Gibbs still receives royalties for this "acting" today!

Fun trivia note: About a year before Toy Story 1 was released, the 4 guys in charge of Pixar got together for lunch and brainstormed ideas for other films they could make if Toy Story was a success. During that lunch, they came up with the ideas for "Toy Story 2", "A Bug's Life", "Monster's Inc.", "Finding Nemo" and "Wall-E".
Also, the "Kitty!!" at the very end ALWAYS kills me.

    • @DaviniaHill
      @DaviniaHill Před 3 měsíci +19

They did not come up with Toy Story 2. Disney asked for a sequel when the first film was successful. They wanted to send it to DVD, but then it was so good it got a cinema release and this caused issues because Pixar only had a 5 film contract, and Disney didn't want to count TS2. The dispute made Disney found Circle 7 to make Pixar sequels, they started on a Toy Story 3 without Pixar. Eventually they bought Pixar.

@DaviniaHill I don't think that really contradicts. What was said in the original post... You're talking about contractual obligations and things like that... That doesn't mean in a brain store.Makes session they didn't think of toy story two as an example, It just wouldn't necessarily be the same story... I just Think you're confusing to different issues that are Not mutually exclusive... I think using the language of the people in charge of pixar is a little misleading And as a business major I understand that.
Sometimes sometimes that's what we think about as the leaders but There used to be a time when the artistic visionaries were the leaders in businesses... So you're literally talking about when that type a thing Began its decline And there's probably no argument about that

Boo was voiced by Mary Morgan Gibbs. She’s the daughter of Pixar animator and director Rob Gibbs (1964-2020).
Having been a toddler at the time she was recorded as the voice of Boo in Monsters, Inc., audio crew found it difficult to record her lines because she would run all over the Pixar office.
When Pixar's Inside Out was in production, the audio recordings of Gibbs's screams as Boo were reused for baby Riley.
One of the production babies listed in the film credits of Toy Story 2 as Mary. Rob Gibbs, her father, was the story artist for that film.

What I loved most about this movie, is that it's a Disney / Pixar movie that focused on a daddy / daughter dynamic, which doesn't happen very often. She's scared at first, but he wins her over. Then later she sees what he's like when she's not around, and then comes around to see that people can be different ways to different people. Most of Disney's works haven't really focused on dads and daughters, and it'd be nice if they did more often. Usually, it's the wandering smart daughter and the clueless or over-protective father (Little Mermaid / Beauty and the Beast, etc..)

Tiny Fun Fact: The scene where they're first walking to work.. Pixar in it's beginnings used to be in my town of Point Richmond, CA they put in some of the restaurants and businesses .... there's a scene where they pass by "The Hidden City Cafe" a real cafe where the creators at Pixar sat to have lunch one day and came up w/ the ideas for "Monster's Inc", " A Bugs Life" "Finding Nemo" & "WALL- E"

I have never seen a character more masterfully designed than Mr. Waternoose. Especially during the final chase, they really show off his imposing design with the way he heightens himself and runs quickly up the sides of walls while chansing Sulley.

I saw this in theaters with my mom, and it was one of the most packed theaters that I can recall, and I saw all of the LoTR films in theaters as well as a number of other highly anticipated movies upon theatrical release.
This movie was oversold, and we had to stand/sit on benches in the back because there weren't any seats available. Despite that, it was a great time, and one of the more memorable movie going experiences.
It truly is amazing how huge this was. Toy Story, A Bug's Life, and Toy Story 2 really brought attention to the studio, and solidified it's reputation as some of the best animation that the west had to offer.

Ps: some interesting stuff I noticed after a while: Boo's first name is Mary, you can see it one one of the drawings (during this scene but they cut it @12:00). In the prequel "Monsters University" Randall used to wear glasses so that's (maybe) why he's always squinting

Boo was voiced by one of the animator's daughter.
The DVD had the addition of a Monsters, Inc short called "Mike's New Car" (It's on CZcams)
The Abominable Snowman was voiced by John Ratzinger (Cliff Clavin on Cheers). He plays small voice roles in (most?) every Pixar film.
Harryhausen's is a reference to Ray Harryhausen, pioneer of "Dynamation" animated monsters in movies like "The 7th Voyage of Sinbad." (1958)

One of my favourite Pixar theories I've seen is that the reason that the Monsters think that children are deadly is that they had started scaring back during the middle ages when the black plague and other diseases were running rampant, and much like the human world; misunderstood what was happening when monsters ended up dying after getting in contact with humans.

There’s a show. Monsters at Work. It takes place during the end of this movie in between when Sully has the realization that laughs could be the new power to use in their world instead of scares and the epilogue where Monsters Inc made the switch. Season 1 came out in 2021 and just released a trailer for season 2 coming in April.

Just my personal opinion of course, but to me, this is the best Pixar movie ever. Okay, animation sure got better since, but... the characters: Mike, Sully, Randall, Boo... perfect chemistry, perfect protrayal. The jokes: each and every one of them great. This movie is overflowing with funny ideas, both visual and in dialogue - writers must have had the time of their lives. The suspense: building up the bad guys, perfectly done - their personalities, their motivations. The door chase - ingenious and perfectly executed! Finding the perfect solutions to all dilemmas, tying up all the loose ends in a perfect way - exposing the bad guys' plot, bringing Boo home, replacing scream energy with laughter. And, in the very end, the emotion of seeing how Mike painstakingly put Boo's door back together again, Sully adding the missing piece, the door opening and hearing "Kitty"... For me, this was the pinnacle of Pixar's creativity. They still made great movies afterwards, but for me, none ever reached the heights of "Monsters, INC" again. Perfect movie from the first second to the last.

The Hidden Café seen in one of the street shots was an actual café in Point Richmond where the Pixar directors brainstormed ideas for then upcoming including this movie and Trash Planet which later became WALL-E (Pete Docter came up with the idea of a robot on a planet filled with trash which he and Andrew Stanton talked over about but they didn't get far at the time, but durin the production of Finding Nemo, Stanton remembered about this idea and developed it further into WALL-E).

The thing about kids being toxic, there's a fan theory that the door system is actually time-travel and they believe children are toxic because of the Black Plague.
Monsters are actually evolved humans, according to the theory, which ties into an even bigger theory called the Pixar theory, where all the Pixar movies are connected in a shared universe.
