I’m Italian and I remember the night I saw this performance live on Tv and started crying because I didn’t expect it to be so deep and beautiful 💕 love them even more since then. If you don’t understand the lyrics you lose half of its power because they are really powerful.
This was performed at Sanremo Festival where they were guests that night coming back the year after their victory (which brought them to European music contest). Every song at Sanremo is performed with the orchestra, which alone is wonderful. Theirs was one of the best performances I’ve ever seen on that stage

Its not true that without lyrics is a half power lost, Damiano gives energy of this. Following words would only disturb. They won Eurovision so majority did not understand words BUT WE UNDERSTOOD THE MESSAGE.

@@VIRMALINE108 I agree, Damiano is so good and can convey the message very well, he is expressive and feels the lyrics while he sings every song, I was only saying that Coraline’s lyrics tell a story that need to be understood to appreciate the song potential and power 100%

You did exactly the right thing! This is an amazing masterpiece of a song. For an English speaker this song is too complex to listen and read the lyrics at the same time. It takes AT LEAST twice if not more, to get the whole flow, emotion and meaning. I’ve listened to this song dozens of times, still gets me.
This version with orchestra is extra special!

I totally understand wanting to focus on the music without distractions, and I usually feel the same. But I hope that you will read the lyrics before or after listening to the music, because with Måneskin, their Italian lyrics truly are special. Even with not-so-great translations, you can see the poetry in Damiano's lyrics. And at some point, (perhaps after you've adequately absorbed the music), it really is worth it to watch a performance and follow along with subtitles so that you can match the words with the emotions expressed and the musical effects as they relate to the words being sung. It really is something special. 🙂

It's lovely watching you become more and more a fan!
They played with an orchestra, because they performed at Sanremo music festival in Italy. It's a huge national event for music where established Italian artists compete, and they all perform with the orchestra. Actually Måneskin's rise to international fame began by winning Sanremo festival in 2021 (with Zitti e Buoni), since that opened them a possibility to compete in Eurovision. They proceeded to win that too, and two years later we are here, they're selling out venues worldwide.
Here they performed at the festival in 2022 as guests and previous winners.

I love watching your reaction to their songs cause your enthusiasm reminds me of the first time I heard these songs, a whole beautiful and exciting experience.
I think the reason why people suggest this video (apart from the english lyrics) is cause it’s the only one with the orchestra live version (the broadcasting channel never uploaded it and they take it down as soon as someone else tries to, such a pity cause its the best one).
When you react to their other italian songs i suggest maybe you check out the lyrics translation on google after you’ve heard the whole song, since you don’t like reading them while you listen, cause Damiano (the singer) writes all the italian lyrics and he’s really freaking good at it, it also allows you to get to know a bit of their story (ex. Zitti e buoni, Lividi sui gomiti, La paura del buio, La fine).
Coraline is a fan favorite cause he writes about the troubles of a young woman turning it into a beautiful fairytale where he’s the soldier trying to save her but fails to.

I'm loving your reactions, you just got a new subscriber! I'm having a great time following your journey with the band, rediscovering the way I felt when I heard these songs for the first time. It really blows my mind how young they are, and how good they are at this age. Ethan (drummer) and Thomas (guitarrist) were just 21 there. Victoria (bass) was 22 and Damiano (singer), 23.
For what's worth, Damiano is a great lyricist, especially in Italian, and this song has one of my favorite verses by him: "Coraline wants the sea, but she's afraid of water/ and maybe the sea is inside her".
It's a shame you lost the first reaction to For Your Love, it's a terrific song - maybe post it as a second reaction? I wouldn't mind at all, from what I've seen, you usually have good enough insight about the music that it's worth watching anyway.
I know you like english songs better, but I do have some italian suggestions I think you'd like: try "Amandoti" live, if you have the time. I don't think the lyrics are necessary for you to understand the meaning of the song either, Damiano makes you feel them, and the music speaks by itself.

You are exactly right, and smart, to tune out the English lyrics. I speak English and Italian, and I can say that for sure you lose the 'feeling' of the song if you pay too close attention to the English translation. Sure, the lyrics in the song are great and it certainly is good to understand them, but you said it right when you said it should just stand on it's own merit, in essence. As far as how much you like the music, it shows you have a broad range of understanding quality music. Many don't and don't really realize it. You think they are phenomenal, and they are. I have heard all the 'great' rock bands of the past, etc., and I can say without a doubt they are as good of musicians at their age as any I have ever heard. A lot of creativity, range, and technically wonderful. Almost all their songs are very listenable, and enjoyable. You too deserve credit for recognizing their musical talent, as you have.

That's the point! You can understand the meaning with the translation (and once you're familiar with the lyrics you'll be able to better evaluate the composition too) but the song won't sound any better than this. The poems (and the songs would indeed be poems set to music) are not translatable because in the choice of words their meaning often matters much less than their sound.
This is obviously the richest version (the Sanremo orchestra is a spectacular addition) but I recommend you listen to the original version (perhaps with Italian subtitles) which should allow you to appreciate the poetic musicality of the language even better. In any case, I appreciated your reaction and I suggest you to continue with "Zitti e Buoni" and in "Nome del Padre"; both in Italian but, as you already understood after Coraline, it's not so important.

If you google Coraline Sanremo dailymotion has the version high quality without subs. The only one out there. It shows way after it ends and how damiano got emotional. The hostess even hugged him.

    Hi,
    you hear (digital) numbers LOL😂
the video you used has been recorded from the Sanremo Festival broadcasted by RAI, the Italian public television, which sends the signals in HD.
Then somehow compressed and posted on CZcams.

Hii, so glad you're getting more into them, i would love to see you react to more of they're live performance, also this has nothing to do with them, but i would loveee for you to react to Billie eilish, even if you are already familiar with her, really curious to see what you think about her music.

I'm gonna get the shitstorm but I'm gonna do it anyway. So, they usually came busking in via del croso, Rome, and living right there I got to enjoy them just by opening my window. That was all before they went big. The fact is, they went too big too fast and that kinda worries me. They are simple guys, easy going, not some cocky band going around in a bulletproof caravan. I'm afraid the music label is tightening the belt. Nothing new, sure, music has always been a "machine" a "Welcome to the Machine". Nonetheless they are very, very good, but their age can easily be exploited and shaped the way Sony wants. Right now they have their mental sanity in check, but they are too young I'm afraid something might explode at some point.

Same :( I'm not Italian but I really miss the "older" days. The music has changed since they've been popular in the US. More mainstream, more English, no deep meanings in the songs anymore. I really really hope they are all fine (mentally) ❤️

Hey man... it's the story of Latinos who listen to music in English, many times we translate them into Spanish, and they sound like a big piece of shit... but whoever likes music, loves and feels good about the songs. harmonies and at least a basic concept of the lyrics, music is music no matter the language and the literal translation, music is felt or not... hugs from Argentina.
