6:42 the side part is for the second runway that runs offset from the direction of the ship. It’s fore aircraft landing so if they mess up the landing or need to go around they don’t crash into aircraft sitting on the front of the carrier
Additionally, aircraft carriers are meant to be as spacially efficient as possible, so putting the runway at an angle and having it stick off the side a little is very useful.
That, as well as providing multiple possible directions for takeoff and landing, depending on wind direction. It's good to take off into a headwind on aircraft carriers because that can drastically reduce the runway distance needed
@jeremiahsacks2868 that's not what the deck is at a 5° angle and yes Catobar carriers the landing deck is off by 5° counterclockwise, and is there for safety above anything else
@@j0hn00err yes but also no, it has nothing to do with takeoffs, because the catapult gets aircraft to about 180 before going off the end of the carrier, yeah the fall the carrier not lift off, the 5° angle is there for multiple launch. And land for cats 1 and 2 but the angle is mainly there for safety
The pointy part on the side of the carrier is the runway where the jets will land on. The deck of an aircraft carrier is meant to be as spacially efficient as possible, so having the runway stick out a bit and exist at an angle does numbers for saving space.
I will never get over the Altantic Ocean level in Atari Transformers that is just one big arena to the Tidal Wave fight. Not only that but the little details of the ship mode is kind of awesome, such as one hallway having a window with just... a giant head. I also love that you need a specific Mini-con just to get to the ship. Plus, the boss fight itself understands scale. Tidal Wave is COLOSSAL, and he isn't locked to a specific area. He can follow you onto land, the ground quakes, he can in fact crush you under his foot. Even the cutscene in which he transforms makes you look so miniscule. It is a spectacle boss done absolute correct.
Easy repaint, definitely something bot con would have done back in the day at least. I have the original western release toy in those colors, he's only slightly taller than Megatron though.
Additionally, aircraft carriers are meant to be as spacially efficient as possible, so putting the runway at an angle and having it stick off the side a little is very useful.
6:36 It's either an elevator between the flight deck and hangar or part of the landing area of the flight deck. In this case it looks like the corner of the landing area, which is angled compared to the rest of the ship so that landing aircraft that fail to catch an arrestor wire don't crash into aircraft being launched at the front of the ship
Well yeah it is apart of the angled deck but also no it would be there to stop a boltering aircraft from slamming straight into another of the deflectors
The pointy bit is the offset runway which modern carriers have. Up until WW2, carriers did not have angled decks, which meant that either you had to clear the entire deck by lowering the planes into the hangar with the elevators, or there was a serious risk of landings ending up in explosions or just causing a mess on the deck. The British added 5° to port on a carrier's deck, so that planes can land safely, and take-off of other planes can still occur. Also, for your curiosity, Tidal Wave's two other forms are: - a Cybertronian catamaran (double-hulled) battleship - a Cybertronian landing craft (the front that looks like a ramp is probably supposed to open up to allow Decepticon troops to land on a beach). Given how huge the carrier is, scale-wise, real-life approximates of the other vehicles could be: - a Yamato-class battleship - a Zubr-class landing hovercraft
6:30 the pointy bit is the landing strip. Old aircraft carriers (ww2 style) used to be a single long runway. In this runway palnes would both land and take off. This is do to the size of the carrier and the technology at the time. This system was limited by the fact that if an aircraft needed to land or takeoff, no other aircraft could land or take off. As such changes were made and a two runway system was implemented, the pointy part is part of the landing runway. Here is where you have the toe cables that help aircraft land. The runway in the front is the takoff one. This is where you will find the catapults that lunch the fighters. Im summarazing a lot, because there are way to many reasons why the change in layout was made (change to jets, technology, catapults, doctrine, etc)
Tidal Wave is such a top tier figure, perhaps the best figure of the year, love his carrier, catamaran battleship and troop deployment craft, the mega ship is insane and the detailing is pristine. I like how they put details into his head from the beard to the pirate hat
I worked on EA-6B Prowlers in the U.S Navy and our squadron was attached to the USS Kitty Hawk. A U.S aircraft carrier has 4 steam powered catapults that help the aircraft reach speeds to take off. 2 catapults that come off at the very front of the ship and 2 on the "pointy part". The pointy part is also the landing area in case they miss the arresting wire they can take off again.
Aircraft carriers are meant to be as spacially efficient as possible, so putting the runway at an angle and having it stick off the side a little is very useful.
ngl, he looks amazing, but... I can't help but feel something was lost in the translation. The OG tidalwave just had so many actual play features - not just the combination and two alt modes, but an elevator for his minicon, launching missiles, and pop up benches to sit more minicons on, and it really feels like they could have integrated more in. Well, at least I'm gonna grab the Fanshobby too
The little sharp outline on the side of aircraft carriers are to hold planes when they are not being used. The reason they jolt out to the side is so that active aircraft don’t ram into the non active aircraft.
the pointy bit on the aircraft carrier deck is a second runway which is used as a landing strip, its angled away from the normal runway so planes can land while another is taking off at the same time. I hope that made sense.
Can’t wait for this figure to come out. I do wish you went in more depth with the base mode, but I otherwise enjoyed the review. Can’t wait to see how many minicon ports or 5mm peg holes it has.
Here's hoping for being a Unicorn trilogy titan he eventually gets a discount like with Cybertron Metroplex. My personal nitpick would that I whished he came with the requiem blaster and/or Leader-1 minicon, because everyone who is getting this probably owns Armada Megatron or will get the Galvatron redeco. Still if it weren't for the potential knees breakege, this is might just be the best Titan class figure since Nemesis and Black Zarak.
I miss the gimmicks the old one had for each dark fleet boat, like the minicon seats or the minicon jet alcove, or the gears inside of his chest that let a minicon switch turn all the turrets
Amazing review i will pick him up when he goes cheaper soon and better than that thief prime Vs prime since you are a king of proper transformers figure reviews
The tower thing Is the command part of the Carrier( + an airport control tower), just the same as In a battleship but to the side becase It needs as much surface space for jets as It has available
Very cool update, and nicely sized. Would definitely get on a discount as $300 CND is a lot for this guy. Original is nice for what it is and still respectively tall for being a Voyager or whatever he was back in the day. Never cared for the combining gimmick with Megatron, but it's neat how it was worked out with the smaller sections that make up the rest of Tidal Wave's robot mode.
The pointy bit is basically just for the planes to come on and off. Sometimes they use it because it’s quicker to leave that way depending on the situation and plane
oui toy guy if you read this first off I love your content I've been a long watcher and second off you should look into the studio series junkions I think there pretty good and I wanna hear your take
That "pointy bit" on an air craft carrier is the end of the landing strip. Planes only take off from the steam powered catapults at the bow (front end) and only land at the stern. Something, something, safety, something, something, tailhook.
Battle Catamaran. Also the pointy bit in the aircraft carrier is where the jets are launched with catapult. The length of the ship is used for the landings.
I wonder how upgrade kits will fix up on the big guy beside better hands but I hope someone makes a little core class dirge and slight improvements on the Mini version too
today i was messing with the mini dark fleet and discover that you can peg the top of the jetpack to the bottom of the foot extenders to turn megs into the green goblin. the jetpack can still be one piece by using the weird knee joints used for transformation to gain added stability.
I'm hopefully getting this guy sometime next month, along with Magmatron, as I preordered them both in April. At least, July is when TFSource _says_ it'll ship out, but Magmatron has already been pushed back once, so who knows. And I'm sure there'll be a 3rd party company somewhere that'll make a way for the mini-ships to make a robot. There's just too many people wanting that for them to ignore it.
My nitpicks about him are the fact that for some of the mini ship pieces for Meg's super mode are hard to take out of the main bot. I have to use a butter knife for some. As for Meg's combined mode, the pin joints of his elbows and hips are too weak for the parts. As for the main bot, he's MASSIVE, THICK and SOLID. Same thing for the ships. So far, he's my favorite Titan after Siege Omega Supreme.
I honestly want one. I got the Japanese version from years back that I had a pleasure of being able to buy in box in a toyshow cause I wanted the Japanese colors and not the American one. And this big boy is an amazing update to it.
Pretty sure the "Pointy Bit", as you described it, is part of the second runway zone that the big US Navy Supercarriers have to accommodate more flight ops at once.
2:46 my knee actually did explode on mine sadly 😢 I had to send it back to Big Bad toy store (who as always has amazing customer service) hope my new figure doesn’t have this problem, the whole knee just stopped ratcheting
I miss Armada Prime so I skipped on Megatron for now (I might get him if he goes on clearance) but I’m definitely getting this guy to go with my Legacy star seekers
6:32 That little pointy bit is the flight deck it's angled like that cause it's modeled off of a Carrier using the CATOBAR system meaning that Planes are launched from the catapult on the front of the ship and land towards the back with the arresting wires, the angled flight deck allowed for the carrier to have more space for aircraft on deck and allowed the ship to have a longer unobstructed runway for aircraft to land. This Navy Film about it from 1955 can explain more if you want to see it czcams.com/video/OKdXde0Tl-g/video.html
Maybe I being overly critical, but the base mode is there just to conceal the lack of creativity with the figure. Pre-Legacy ship Titans (Fortress Maximus, the Ark) had a lot of play/display features about their ship modes, such as various ramps and compartments for smaller dudes as well as transforming partner figures. Tidal Wave's ship mode/modes are just vaguely hydrodynamic bricks. I'm pretty sure that a Micromaster-size elevator like on the original toy could have been made in the carrier. The mini-fleet looks cute, but it is of sufficient size to form something else aside from Megatron's arms shields and jetpack. It'd have been better to make it *not* a part of Tidal Wave's robot mode but a partner figure/additional weapons for him. Well, these qualms aside, the figure is outstanding.
Id love to get a down scaled vetsion of the Titans. I love them, but playing with them is a genuine hassel. I love Tidal Wave and would love to just fiddle with him, but cant do that because he is gonna be gargantuan, and loud
I was waiting your review to see a comparison with the original toy and you sold it.... No one is comparing it with the original toy, let's hope Toy Spotlife do it

I have that & energon tidal wave still sealed. I wonder if they will do a repaint of him. In Energon colors. Plus original had missile launchers. But to me if they added the hatch & mini con would been more then perfect. They did it on a $25 budget back then. But does not have the articulation this one does.
I kinda have mixed feelings about this. One side of me is like 'Hehehe PS2 game big Tidal Wave cool', but the other side is griping over the fact that this lost every Minicon gimmicks (no minicon storage in the carrier, no minicon seats in the hovercraft) and instead gained a pointless base mode (Especially that this didn't come with a Minicon/Micromaster to interact with said base unlike Omega Supreme). Also it kinda hurts that the parts for Armada Megs/Galvs' Kancolle mode can't combine to make a mini Tidal Wave. That would've been so hilarious and made sense for the mass shifting in the show.
Forgot to trim the song at the end. For those who see that, there is nothing special after the outro lol.....just a blank screen.😂 My bad
I did the exact thing on my SS 102 prime and just deleted my video and re-edited it.
the pointy bit on aircraft carrier is to bring plains and helicopters up to the flight deck
Right, BUT... that makes the video length 12:34. Own it!

Also it kinda hurts that the parts for Armada Megs/Galvs' Kancolle mode can't combine to make a mini Tidal Wave. That would've been so hilarious and made sense for the mass shifting in the show.
Tidal Wave will be mine!!! :D
