    The primaries makes the contrast to change gradually over the whole spectra to maintain an natural look to the image. Log wheels are great for the final fine tuning, where you can stretch or pull a specific area. An example is to bring more drama to the sky.
    Use it with caution and only for what it is for, or you will end up with some strange looking picture’s ;)

    In Lum Vs Sat curve I click on the black and on the white dots and then pull the outermost points of the curve down. That leaved the rest uneffected and cleans the blacks and whites perfectly.

    Thanks. I usually use a combination of the primaries and the HDR wheels for more precision, depending what footage I'm grading. Good to know this method.
    One thing I've found is that Canon's LOG3 sucks when grading, compared to using HDRPQ, which has far less noise in the shadows, and the details can really be brought out from the shadows without lots of grain.

    Great post! thanks! Question: in order to get this outcome, we have to set just the lower range to 1.00... what about the higher range? no need to change its value at all? thanks!

    Hi Do you recommend MBP 14” - M2 Pro / 19c GPU, 32GB and 1TB for video editing with DaVinci Resolve 18 Studio?
    The footage is shot in 4K - 6K with camera like Panasonic AU EVA1 and Sony A7S III. I also have a atomos ninja v+ recorder that does ProRes raw. I have an external 16TB raid.
    Or do I need m2 max with 64gb ?

    Alex, I think you mentioned that the LEFT Rng number control the SHADOWS and that the RIGHT Rng numbers control the HIGHLIGHTS, but you never adjusted the RIGHT Rng numbers AND you were still able to control highlights independently. Do we ever have to adjust the RIGHT Rng numbers to a value of 1.00? Or just leave it in default.? Sorry, little confused about that. Thanks

    • @joshuaang3860
      @joshuaang3860 Před rokem

      Yea I'm slightly confused by that too

    • @Andresvideo
      @Andresvideo Před rokem

      He is telling the shadows wheel range to affect the whole image range (1.0) but the highlight wheel range its at 0.55 so from 0.55 to 1 it's the highlight wheel that rules.
      It would have been the same if he put the shadow wheel at 0.5 and the highlights wheel at 0.5.
      You must think of the shadow-highlights range as a 0 to 1 scale, from pitch black to full white.
      If you leave a gap between the shadow and highlight ranges, that's what is affected by the midtone wheel.
