David Draiman of Disturbed, and ex-Filter guitarist Geno Lenardo recently collaborated together to construct Device. The album takes strands from hard rock, industrial, and electronica, and as a result, Device's self-titled debut album for Warner Bros. Records is a focused, fierce, and fiery new machine.
It all started while the Grammy Award-nominated multiplatinum powerhouse Disturbed was on hiatus, Lenardo reached out to Draiman to collaborate on a song for the Underworld: Awakening soundtrack in late 2011. As soon as the singer heard the music, he was both intrigued and inspired. The duo then cut "Hunted" in Chicago. Even though the track didn't ultimately make the final soundtrack album due to circumstances beyond their control, Draiman urged that they hold on to it and continue writing music. Soon, they had an entire album's worth of material.
Upon finishing the record, Draiman enlisted Evanescence drummer Will Hunt and Dope and Rock of Ages guitarist Virus. Both Hunt and Virus jumped at the chance to be a part of this powerhouse trio. The three comprise the touring incarnation of Device.

david draiman has such unique vocals that it's basically still sounds like disturbed just with lower tuned guitars.

It sounds like he's not even trying to sound different than the vocal style used in Disturbed. He's singing the same way. In contrast, Maynard for A perfect Circle is a complete shift. I didn't know at first it was the same guy from Tool.

Anyone here in 2024. Just heard #disturbed at @welcometorockville . #david_draiman IS #disturbed. It doesn't matter who his backing band is although #dandonegan and Draiman have the best chemistry. This sounds like a Disturbed song to me. It's awesome!

I don't understand why people think that the bands have to be one or the other. The two are a nice complement to the other. You have Disturbed which sticks to its roots with the hard rock we have grown accustom to and here you have Device which is embracing a new era of rock by including different sound elements. You get the best of both worlds with the same vocalist we have come to enjoy.

Disturbed has always been a 4 pieces band with the same members, you can't say "David is Disturbed", it's not respectful for the 3 others.
Finally someone who understands!! Ive been seeing posts that say "its disturbed with different name" and that shit always gets to me. The only thing the same is voice and the music is way different.
Absolutely 100% agree. Disturbed would not have been as successful without the other 3. They had a unique style and I loved Dan Donegan's guitar solos!

It's not meant to be the same as Disturbed. It's meant as a side project for David while Disturbed is on hiatus. It is his way of experimenting with a different sound and I did find it a bit interesting and while I love Disturbed a hell of a lot more, I can't help but enjoy this as well.
Doesn't matter what he is singing, I am constantly listening to every message he is sending. Amazing display of talent.
After the last album of Disturbed this feels like David got back and got DOWN WITH THE SICKNESS!

As much as I love David's singing, it was his voice combined with the heavy hook rhythms that drew me to Disturbed. I couldn't help but bang my head to the beat, songs like "the game" "haunted" "pain redefined" & "liberate" have the hook that keeps me un able to sit still, I never tire of these... and I'm sorry, but Device just doesn't have that.

David Is Disturbed itself, He does not need the others to be as epic as he has been in the years. This is a great album. It is still Disturbed to me as long as he is with this new group. David Disturbed 4 Life!
I disagree, Disturbed was different, was the crown jewel. However nothing can last forever and people need to move on, forever rocking with David and now Device!
David is an excellent lyrical singer. And in Device, David is able to get away from the trenched memories of Devon and move forward to other topics he has really never even scratched the surface of. Disturbed is still alive, as David himself said in an interview. Disturbed was just on the back burner for David as Device is just another step on the climb of this industry for him.
I loved Disturbed, but I have to agree. David is Disturbed. The artists in Disturbed other than him weren't necessarily spectacular, nor did they stand out. That's why this sounds just like Disturbed really.
Note-worthy artists are well known. That's why people pay attention to Synyster Gates. He's a badass guitar player. And that's why people miss The Rev, he stood out because he was a fantastic drummer who left his mark.
I also have to disagree. I really love Disturbed, but this album didn't get to me as the Disturbed albums did. The sound is more industrial than that of Disturbed. This album was the biggest dissapointment of 2013 for me sadly :(

I really liked this album. I wouldn't mind David having 2 Bands. This was a good band. Too many people were whining. They kept comparing this band to Disturbed and couldn't just enjoy the music. Now i miss this band.

These comments need direction:
"This sounds like Disturbed" - no, this sounds like vocally based industrial metal which is incontrovertibly tainted by the singularly distinctive voice of David Draiman. You simply can't divorce his voice from the name Disturbed.
"David quit Disturbed" - this is a side project, a very common way to creatively express outside of the big picture of your original professional career. Many, many metal acts do this. Almost every member of System of a Down, Mars Volta, or Mastodon, for example, maintains side projects. It doesn't mean the original work is over. Hiatus isn't code for disbanded.
"I like Disturbed better" - good, that means this project succeeded. It aimed at a different audience and it struck the mark. That's a good thing, not a bad thing. Go listen to Disturbed if you prefer them. I listened to Disturbed as a kid a lot, but at 28 I greatly prefer Device to Disturbed. It isn't perfect, of course - what is? - but it's very good.
Well, now you can say David quit Device, because we did not hear anything about them in years.
I liked Device, I hope they will come back.

Listening to this since it came out and today I realized that it has a video.
Device and Disturbed are completely different. Disturbed is more heavy metal, Device is more instrumental, it is more melodic..two VERY different bands. For those who find them similar you're mistaking it because David is singing too, which btw again..his voice = epicness. Great song, absolutely fell in love with it! :)

Just a fun fact: David Draiman, the lead singer for this band and Disturbed, lost his virginity at 12 years old. His girlfriend later committed suicide at 16, hence "Inside the Fire". I can completely understand his loss of virginity so early.
