  • In this episode of Grand Adventure we get back on the road, stopping for the night at Boomland RV Park in southeastern Missouri as we reach the start of the Lewis & Clark Trail at the confluence of the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers near Cairo, Illinois. It's then time to continue on to the Music City! We camp at the US Army Corps of Engineer's Poole Knobs Campground on J. Percy Priest Lake just east of Nashville, Tennessee for a bit of R&R around camp, kayaking, and exploring the sights and sounds of the city of Nashville, including the Honky Tonks of Lower Broadway, the Musicians Hall of Fame, the Grand Ole Opry, and RCA Studio B on Music Row.

    ABOUT US
Welcome to Grand Adventure, a CZcams channel that focuses on RV-centric outdoor activities including not only of course camping, but also mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, skiing and more, always filmed in stunning 4K.
We're based in Salt Lake City, Utah, and invite you to come along as we travel all around the western U.S. My wife Patricia and I, and dog Zoe are avid boondockers, so you'll seldom find us in RV parks or even dry campgrounds. Instead, we're usually camped in some of the most remote and beautiful spots that you could ever pull a travel trailer into. And unlike most other RV channels on CZcams, we're not RV dealers or full-timers -- we're "long-timers" who tend to hit the road for weeks or months at a time, while maintaining a sticks-and-bricks home in Utah.
We'll provide beautiful travel videos, as well as some tips and insight on trip planning, and equipping and maintaining your RV to make your next adventure a grand one indeed! So, subscribe to make sure that you catch every episode, and remember...life is nothing but a Grand Adventure!

Me and Jim are so looking forward to the Smoky Mountain video. I'm going to be doing my video of the Roaring Forks Motor Trail sometime next week. A bear was right beside our truck. I could have reach out and petted him. Only if I didn't mind losing a hand. Lol. They are so gorgeous up close. I got some amazing pictures of him. Actually there has been bears spotted in our Subdivision in Sevierville. Which is very rare. It's so dry here they only have 3 months to eat enough berries for the Winter. So they are hunting now. Jim is still trying to find the right setup for Solar for our RV. We are still on schedule to go full-time in September. We are getting so excited. Just to find the right person to give us the cost of our Solar System for our 40ft Class A. Jim wants to get the Liithuium batteries. Cause they are supposed to be the best with less worries. But finding the right person to give us a quote and idea of what we need is the confusing part.

It is refreshing to see someone traveling the Heartland of America. I would think there would be more, with the nutsies on both coasts burning and pillaging and all the crazy government rules. My home-base is in Missouri, where they let adults make their own decisions about their safety, but my favorite places to travel are in Mississippi and Louisiana. It depends upon the software. Some software gives you so much control that using it becomes daunting and time consuming.
Other software, like that included with Google Photos, gives enough control but is very easy and quick to use. But perfection does come with a time consuming price.

@@gorrdd there's a huge difference in the processing time and resource needed to post-process video, as opposed to processing still photos. Helloooo Marc! It may not be of great public interest but I would like to know! And you may have an episode on it, just point me in the right direction. Anyway, what was your regular day job before you started the GA series. Unless of course you’re still doing the day job. :) And what got you on to the notion of Grand Adventure? Like I said, if you have an episode on it, just point and I’ll click. Looking forward to tonight. Did you make it to the UP yet? Cheers!

We haven't yet done an episode on either, as we prefer to make the channel about the places we go and the things that we do, rather than about us. But the "day jobs" were the same then that they are now. Patricia is in a mix of both customer service and home health care, and I handle litigated injury liability insurance claims. In fact, we're in the midst of planning an episode actually sponsored by my employer, for as a small excess and surplus lines insurer, we insure a bunch of fun operators in the outdoor recreation industry including mountain guides, whitewater rafting companies, ATV/jet ski/boat rentals, and zip lines, to name but a few. Needless to say that my employer has been very supportive of the channel's development.
As for what started the channel, that's not so much explained *in* episode 1 as it's explained *by* episode 1. For years we attended the semi-annual "Bike the Swell" mountain bike festival, put on by the MECCA Bike Club of tiny Huntington, Utah. We brought the trailer down to camp, and had just purchased the drone, and I got the bright idea to film the festival. I wanted to upload it to share with club members but none of my existing CZcams accounts fit the content. So I launched a new one, but kept the name vague enough to encompass all manner of camping and outdoor recreation. From there it just blossomed -- club members shared the video, and the club put it on their website for the festival, as bad as the audio quality and leveling is. 😂 We were up to about 40 episodes when in 2018 I got fed up with my previous employer, walked in one morning and just quit, and we decided to spend a year's sabbatical traveling around the US during the warmer months and skiing full-time through winter 2018/19.
So, that's the whole story. We haven't yet gotten up to the UP. We're presently outside of Branson, MO and we're finally at the decision point. Our plans have waffled back and forth a few times but it seems now that we're indeed heading north.
Looking forward to seeing you as well at tonight's Premiere!!

Grand Adventure: Awesome, thank you for that reply. How cool! What an amazing story. Life truly IS a Grand Adventure. Who knew that bike trip would spawn such a wonderful thing you both share with all of us. Bless you both for that and the awesome episodes. Be safe in your travels. See you at 9!

@@DSTigerBandDad thank you! Like most folks, I didn't spend my childhood thinking, "I wanna be an insurance adjuster when I grow up!" Yeah, right -- you see how that turned out 30 years later. 😉

Many museums in the Nashville area were closed. A bunch were open, but only until 5...and with working until 4 pm in a campground 30 minutes outside of Nashville, we were very limited in what we could see and do in the city on this visit.
