Copperline was released on the 1991 album "New Moon Shine". During the late 1980s, he had began touring regularly, especially on the summer amphitheater circuit. His later concerts featured songs from throughout his career.
Taylor had thoughts of retiring by the time he played the massive Rock in Rio festival in Rio de Janeiro in January 1985. He was encouraged by the nascent democracy in Brazil at the time, buoyed by the positive reception he got from the large crowd and other musicians, and musically energized by the sounds and nature of Brazilian music. In the last week, I heard Copperline on SiriusXM two times. Each time I wanted it again. This is why I am here today listening to this song on CZcams by a national treasure, James Taylor.
Such a national treasure. No auto tune, no gimmicks, just sheer talent that just gets better and better.

If this guy sang this acapella and never played a note, I would sit there listening. If he played guitar and never sang a lyric, I would sit there listening like a little kid at story time. James Taylor is just such an artist, and I think he really, honestly, gets better with time-

I was born in 86. I found James taylor while listening to my father's albums at the age of 7. For 22 years this man's music has been a part of my life. Thank the Lord for the rare talents he gifts mankind with.

I was born 1957 and raised on Motown. The day I found my brothers James Taylor album (Mud Slide Slim) I never went back. My other brother John (God rest his soul) called me a hippie :-)

Growing up in rural Appalachia, and since growing up and having a family of my own, this song has sustained me throughout the years. It IS my memory of home, it literally puts me back in the mountains, and thats way more than just a song to me. James has the rarest gift of all in a musician, he sends you back to your best memories.

I love how us fans are so devoted, it is as if he helped us forge our lives. Certainly I feel that my life was so influenced by Mr Taylor. My son (42) was sweet baby James, then known as badger by my family. We saw him EVERY time he came to England (or Wales). My three children grew up sleeping to his songs as their background staging or their bedtime lullabies. Even after their dad and I divorced amicably we still had JT in common and would get together with our children to see him in concert. His songs wove the tapestry of our lives, his joy was infectious and his calm enthusiasm was our life guide. He is part of our lives isn’t he? ❤️🙏😘

I sang this song last summer, in the main bar in what used to be a tiny little town in the Western Mountains of ME. It has recently been overwhelmed, as it had in the past, by wealthy people who have built up and changed the entire character of the area.
Sad as it is, the majority of the people that I dearly love are still there, mostly because they are too old to make a change. Regardless, I will continue to go there to be with those whom I love. And, to relive my most meaningful times in the area with my first “wife”.
And in the interim JT, thankfully, has given me this song to soothe my soul until I can be there again.
Oh! And everyone got up to dance, “…like a man in a trance”, and we all shared the moment.

I can't adequately express my feelings for this wonderful song, music, voice... Beyond beautiful.
One of my favorites. I come from a small, rural, agriculture town and that's what this song speaks to me of. I'm so lucky to have been raised there, and now raise my 5 children there, watching them walk to church and spend their summers swimming in the canal and falls working in a potato cellar. Life is good.

I was able to hold back my tears until he looked upward at 4:19. Then I lost it. James can somehow make me feel nostalgia for a place I’ve never been. His vocal melodies are so sentimental and his playing is pristine. Thank God for James Taylor
I cry too. This is about Carrboro, NC, next door to Chapel Hill and I lived there for a year about the time he wrote these songs. I might have seen him and never knew it.

I first heard JT in 1970. I was speechless then and still am. What a talent! How lucky are we share his music.

Once again I Thank Mr. James Taylor. Sometimes just what is needed.
I had the privilege of seeing James Taylor live back around 1998-2000. I can’t pinpoint the date but it was at Starwood Amphitheater in Nashville and that was one of my all time favorite concerts. Pink Floyd in 1994 at Vanderbilt Stadium with their lights/lasers was spectacular but Taylor standing there with his guitar and singing with his band backing him was like something I can never explain. Very few artists do that for me. James Taylor could sing fat jokes about my mom (rest her soul) and I’d have to sing along or just be there awestruck.
James Taylor is in a class of his own! So many great songs, deep in emotions they capture you changing you in a transitional magical way bringing out the best time you can have to enjoy for years to come and more. When you hear him sing it says it all.....
It's amazing how James' songs can just invade my life and take every single bad thing going on and just turn it around. I'm so lucky to have been introduced to James' songs at the young age that I was, I can only imagine where I'd be if I didn't have these songs to soothe me.

Likewise, I saw him 6 times as well. And each one he was better than the previous concert I was part of. We are fortunate to enjoy perhaps the greatest folk-easy listening artist of our time!

I believe he is the most genuine performer, grateful for his life, never complains, has a happy life and he knows it - I am from Massachusetts and he is here almost yearly. NEVER EVER MISSES A NOTE! This evokes so many memories of growing up in Kentucky in the 50's. My grandparents had farms, just subsistence mind you, nothing industrial about them. I remember the lightnin' bugs (fireflies) and the polecats (skunks) along with bobcats and hoot owls. I miss the whipporwills singing in the evening and my grandparents and their friends telling stories. No television, no internet ...just their shared memories of those "gone and passed away": Believe it or not, I would love to go back then and just listen some more.

I've listened to JT since my Jr High years, and I have to say that his voice calms me when no other voice can. He's got a smooth voice, and his lyrics speak to the truth of everyday life. We'll never have another singer like him again.

the first time i heard copperline, the song had a special quality to it...a purity and sweetness all its own. for me it didn't make me feel as homesick as carolina on my mind. copperline felt like i was remembering my own home in a gentle way, kind of like looking through grandma's photo albums. the song takes you home, but by a different route...most of james taylor's songs evoke some kind of emotion with the listener, and his audience. that's the sign of a great talent.

Two weeks ago, my Dad and I were dropping off the trash at night to my aunt's house. He said he really wanted to hear this song (I had never heard it before). We dropped off the trash and put this song on repeat seven times while we just drove around the neighborhood with the windows down. This man's voice is amazing! No straining...just beautiful!
