    • @LetsTalkEntertainmentMedia
      @LetsTalkEntertainmentMedia  Před rokem +1

      a 100% I would. I would rebuy them and sell this. If the blu rays were 4k and had the HDR on them I think that would of been enough.

  • @ignaceeeyo
    @ignaceeeyo Před rokem +3

    The color timing is way more accurate to the original theatrical releases. Interviews with the cinematographer from the 90s confirm this along with the DP being involved in the remaster and even comparing with original prints. The films were regraded for home video. These new 4Ks have many problems but the color timing is not one of them. The most disappointing film I saw last year was probably Crimes of the Future. Not a great one from Cronenberg in my opinion.

    • @LetsTalkEntertainmentMedia
      @LetsTalkEntertainmentMedia  Před rokem +1

      I saw that in theatres and I liked it at the time but wasn’t blown away by it and don’t feel the need to revisit them. I guess that makes a little more sense but I just feel like the warmness of these 4ks just doesn’t work with the films I knew. I thought there was something wrong with My TV when I was watching because they felt that different to me. I do feel bad saying it because the resolution increases and the brightness of the 4ks were all great.

    That’s a shame. I have a hard time believing if the great Kieslowski was alive that he would have approved these changes. These 4K restorations should stay true to the original as much as possible unless of course the director wants to change it like Wong Kar Wai did. I don’t like those changes either but it’s his movies and ultimately his decision. Thanks for the review!

    • @LetsTalkEntertainmentMedia

      No problem! Yea the wong Kar Wai thing I know upset a lot of people but I actually agree with him that’s the preferred visual presentation for me. But these just didn’t work at all for me and actually really hurt the films overall. If they were his decision even if I didn’t like it I would still be ok like you with it being his choice and their his films but since he’s passed away I thought that aspect should of been left alone. Just strange choices overall.

    As far as disappointing films, I’d say DC has a streak of disappointing me constantly. I keep having expectations that they will bust out great films and then they just don’t live up to my expectations. It happened with the Suicide Squad films, pretty much every recent Superman film, and WW84. Not to say they haven’t had good ones (Aquaman, WW, and JL:SC), just do they seem to disappoint when watching. I just really hope the Flash film doesn’t disappoint as he’s my favorite from DC and the trailer looks good with having my favorite live action Batman (Keaton).
    Films that surprised me are usually kids animated films. Paranorman, Boxtrolls, Missing Link went from being films that looked lame to me in trailers to being some of my favorites. I’ll never doubt Laika films ever again.

    • @LetsTalkEntertainmentMedia
      @LetsTalkEntertainmentMedia  Před rokem

      Laika always surprises me also. Their movies don’t get promoted great and their always good. I’ve been let down by DC over the year also. Batman Vs Superman made me take some time off seeing their films at theaters. It was too many disappointing films in a row. The Flash does look good and anyone who’s seen it says it’s great so we might get lucky with rabat one.

    Question One:
    This one has to be Good Will Hunting. Yes it's a choice many love but as for myself I had quite a lot of trouble getting into it. Then once it ended I was so disappointed. Robin Williams was great as always but the hype for that movie had me so excited and I was let down pretty harshly.
    Question Two:
    As biased as this is I'm going with American Satan. It was beautiful from start to finish. My first watch was special. I watched and sat there in awe. Couldn't believe what I had watched. Had goosebumps throughout and the ending was super intense. My jaw was on the floor I had to pick it up and watch the film again. Definitely my most memorable surprise film.

    Wow these are tough ones. I spend so much time trying to do spoiler free research to get excited about new movies its hard to be surprised. I do get disappointed a lot though every couple years there's a movie from people I'm a such a big fan of and build it up in my head so much that when it comes out years later there's no way I can't be disappointed. It takes me a couple of watches for me to lose what I hoped it would be in my head and appreciate it for what it is. This is going to push me to act on what my dad's been telling me to do and not think about it so much and just be surprised. Sorry I left this instead of answers but it's something I've been feeling and maybe you guys can relate. Thanks for your brave comments around the color timing of the 4k. To explain, don't blame Criterion. They're not responsible. The Italian house Ritrovata is infamous for ruining hundreds of movie restorations in its house style piss yellow. Sad but true. Now, have you got Dekalog? if not why not? It's the greatest series of dramas ever committed to film.

      @@LetsTalkEntertainmentMedia I couldn't agree more. At least we have those earlier Blu-rays of Three Colors with the original color timing. I know you'll love Dekalog because you were very articulate about the humanism at the heart of Three Colors that appealed to you so much and that's what the 10 stories in Dekalog have in spades. I mean it. You will absolutely love Dekalog as so many already do. And the Criterion set really does it justice. And there are no color issues. The restorations are faithful to the original.

      @@LetsTalkEntertainmentMedia Oh dear. I'm going to have to revise my opinion about the color grading on the 4k of Three Colors. First of all I was mistaken, it's not Ritrovata but MK2 who are responsible for the color grading of the 4k set and it is in fact accurate and matches the original theatrical presentations. In the end we have both sets of discs, the 4k and the blu, and ultimately it's a question of personal preference but if the filmmakers' intent is important to you then you'll have to embrace the 4k. The director may have passed on but the DP approved the 4k restorations.

    • @LetsTalkEntertainmentMedia
      @LetsTalkEntertainmentMedia  Před rokem
