The Bret sword and shield is unironically one of the best crowd control options in the game, it gets even crazier if you have a handmaiden nearby as you can just stuff nearly anything in the game with it. Awesome vid.
I also found its pretty good killing elites aswell, all around one of the best shield weapons

For starters, to better understand how the combos work, I'll state the format of the Light attack and Heavy attack chain.
Light Chain:
L1 (horizontal slash), L2 (overhead), L3 (shield bash)
Heavy Chain:
H1 (overhead), H2 (shield bash), H3 (thrust)
Also, the P/B (push/block) attack is a push into thrust. (Block, push and keep holding the LMB but release RMB for a mini-combo).
If you use P/B attack, it goes right into the 3rd attack of the "normal" attack chains if you continue holding LMB but release the RMB block, for example Light 3 (L3) or Heavy 3 (H3), and can use that to kinda create your own combos and flow.
For stagger (and THP generation on stagger) you got 2 options:
-Block/push into light3(L3) shield bash
-Light1(slash)-> heavy2(shield bash)-> light3(shield bash
For anti-armor combos also 2 options:
- Heavy1(overhead)-> Light2(overhead)-> Heavy3(thrust)
-Push/Block attack (shove-thrust)-> Heavy3(thrust) -- you can either repeat, or chain it into the other anti-armor combo.

@@austinmente8080 I also don't like bretshield, but that's probably due to how I'm trying to play it. I'm used to having shields as my horde clear option on careers like foot knight, so I try to do that with bretshield too. And it doesn't work. What I've learned is that bretshield is only for crowd control and farming THP, for that your combo is push>light spam. It has some really good single target attacks too. But it absolutely sucks at clearing even the weakest horde. That's why I prefer sword&shield. But its attacks also slow you down a lot which bretshield does not. So if you want to be a zooming epic gamer, bretshield is your choice. Use executioner for clearing.
4:53 that slice though the horde and all the bodies flying is so satisfying, especially in 0.25 speed
I generally prefer the bret sword over the exe cuz i tend to play in high ping games and i get hit a lot less with it. I always use the bret sword and shield as well! Great video!

@@getinthis I have ping issues too due to me living in africa and if i host, no one joins, so I'm forced to solo (which I don't mind) but sometimes bots are absolute braindeads (except IB bot my beloved), and it is more fun to play with people.
@@getinthis sometimes i do host if i want a specific map for okri's challenges. But other than that, it takes forever for people to join me when i host :/

I run the same talents, sometimes I swap for the double stab when the team is already tanky and we need more monster/boss damage. For the weapons I take Bret sword and shield and Bret longsword cuz you gotta use proper bretonnian steel on our simpy boy. I just love the Bret longsword, I use it on every kruber careers. Gk is probably one of my favorite careers in the game. Thx for the gameplay GG!

I feel like the greathammer outclasses Exe in almost any if not all cathegories. Its so sleeper busted and also leaves you less vulnerable/reliant on dancing to get heavies off as you just spam lights with good stagger
Greathammer is only insanely good if you have a speed build and GK isnt that speedy. Thats why alot of FT players run GreatHammer.

And that's why I run mace and sword. The movetech is absolutely dishusting. But losing bret shield is big for sure, its so good.@@getinthis
Going to try this build. Some people seem to have alternative talents/weapons recommended in the comments over this but I'll give yours a shot first.

Is there a clear advantage to run bret sword and shield to mace and shield? Both can generate excellent thp with this build.
You can def run that if you want, mace and shield I always found to be very slow except for the push attack combo ha
I've got the same build for the most part, though I personally never use the strength potion talent. Maybe just because I'm too conservative with potions (and end up losing from that I'm sure)
Bretonnian S&S with the tHP spam and Executioner's Sword with +20% crit on both heavies? Yes please!!

yo bro how to play with build like what to use for what
i play in such a way that allows me to commit mass genocide in rat populations, I like to use it for my regular builds. Now that the build has changed I go for increase power on charge attacks
Pick virtue of the knightly temper instead od virtue of ideal for executioner sword. Crits while light attacking horde means everything you cleave dies while crits on heavy lets you oneshot everything up to and including chaos warriors on cataclysm.
I used it to test it once and it didnt serve me too well as it was very difficult to gather back THP and kill hordes quickly but maybe I just had a bad game ill try it again and tell you the results
Right, I found the crit is pretty unreliable most time and doesn't really help much with the cleave on the ult. It gives a ton of THP on crit with the bash tho but the ideal it better imo.

Yea I changed my mind, I did some testing while both I really good I think I prefer templer a little more as it pairs very well with the bret shield and sword spam bash + pairs with with audacity. @@Toobesound
I don't know what the heck I do wrong on GK, but I never seem to gain the same THP or get the same amount of kills with a horizontal ult, etc. that I see people do in videos. I don't know if I just can't aim or what but I ALWAYS suffer from lack of THP (even using the same talents and all of course) and I will ult in the face of like 5 stormvermin and kill 2 if I'm lucky. I always get an urge to play GK and think I can do something but then I just end up being the lowest scorer across the board and it feelsbadman.jpg.

Use boon of shallya instead of barkskin with THP on killing blows and I promise your bar will be FULL

Isnt the bonus 30% block cost reduction a little redundant considering the shield passively has block cost reduction? Or is it mostly for the exe sword?
Its very useful for the shield so it doesnt break when you need to revive or teammate or when you're cornered. I use to think block red was useless and stam was better however after testing it I found I'm able to have stamina up for consistently. Block redu. on the shield make your character have tons of survivablilty.

Eww bret sword and shield. The push stab is bugged and has no range, and the heavy attack is a sword attack. Eww.
Replace with OG sword and shield for a super fast infinite cleave shield bash, you always want the ability to open up any encounter with a big radial inf cleave stagger.
I dont follow meta very closely, but i just dont like bret sword and shield in general, it doesnt vibe with me. I started using normal sword and shield and im having fun, i like it.
Now if only i could use spear and shield on grail knight...
yea the push stab has like no range lol, I mainly use it for the insane stagger potent ion I get with opportunist
