      That’s always on my mind 💯. Had some glitches there at times. Felt like i gave up on those inside whitewater sections where i fell. Always something to learn from watching riding footage. You been improving on the foil Jerome?

      @@Lanceisoutside Yo Lance, I have been slowly improving, mainly just adding consistency. Foiling is hard! lol. I sold by HIPE wing board (shaping a new one) so I haven't been able to practice winging. The board felt too heavy and "sticky" to the water and I felt like it was holding me back. I am on track though to have more sessions this year compared to last. The more water time the better! Keep posting those vids!

    Hey @Lanceisoutside Came across your video - so enlightening! I have built my own DW board too and been trying to sup foil with it in small waves. It always puzzled me what people did whilst waiting for a wave. You never see the bit where you sit down on your board waiting for the wave and then pop up and start paddling only when you are ready. I always assumed people who DW sup foil were standing around with their excellent balance like when you sup surf. Thanks, your video has helped me dispel this falsehood.

      Gosh this is such a good comment! I hope others see it. That’s one thing that is never talked about or mentioned with downwind boards in videos or podcasts. How unstable and hard to stand on they are. I actually dont like this board much because of how hard it is to just stand on. But im still glad i made it, so i personally know how it feels for me. I made it on the low end of narrowness (18 inches wide) which for me, is too narrow. Even Standing on it in calm water is a bitch and fatigues me fast. I modified my old sup foilboard that was 6’8 x 24inches wide and made it 7’5 long and its Perfect for me! You people take note Im 6’4 and 195 lbs so i have a high center of gravity and am not a lightweight rider. Everyone is different. Shorter lighter people dont need as much volume compared to larger riders. And conditions are not the same everywhere. I deal with alot of wind, currents and chop on most days. This day was rare. No to very light winds. Always windy here in Texas. Millions of wind turbines in this state
      Basically, my opinion is standup foilboards need to be wider and have more volume. Less fatigue, more waves, more opportunity, more fun and on and on.

    Nice🤙🏽 awesome foiling with SUP stylee… 👍🏽. Is this with your soloshot? Do you use the footage to analyze technique? Thanks 🙏🏼 great waves for sup foil, looks like a lot bumps, deep, and no one around…!

      Thank you HIsurf I appreciate that 🤙🏽. Correct, using my soloshot. It worked great this day. Yes use the footage to help analyze my technique. But more so for helping me remember my sessions and waves. Like Having a catalogue to look back on. This day was so pleasant! I was out at this spot for 2 hrs this morning with 10-15 other surfers out. Was zero wind. Then wind turned on from the ENE to 3mph and everyone went in. I went back out for a solo session paddling into everything i wanted to without looking around. Good times! @hisurf4688

    Awesome to watch, as usual! Have you done any DW runs across the bay on your DW board with no wing? I’ve been curious if the swell organizes enough there for DW runs. I know it’s great with a wing, but are the bumps good enough for true DW runs?

    • @Lanceisoutside
      @Lanceisoutside  Před 7 měsíci +1

      They sure are! Been doing the runs solo with my sup board for 2 years now. Check out some of my old videos. I paddle up once and usually do the whole run without coming off foil. Bumps are good out there.

    good job :) What is the volume and the width of your board please ?

    • @Lanceisoutside
      @Lanceisoutside  Před 7 měsíci +2

      Thanks Lionel. Volume of my homemade board is around 115 liters? And 18 inches wide. For me at my size and weight, its side to side very unstable. Next one i will make wider. Less length. Works great for downwinders and clean conditions. Can prone surf it as well if its choppy and windy.

      Hi Lance, I would really like to make my own DW board too, but I don’t know where to start. I have watched your board making videos and it looks pretty easy. I am about the same weight as you and would like a wider shorter board too. I don’t know how much or where to put rocker in the board and where to place the foil box. I run GoFoil too. Is there any sketches and plans you could share. What are your costs. 2 K for a board is a lot, I would rather try to build my own and buy foils instead.

    • @Lanceisoutside
      @Lanceisoutside  Před 6 měsíci

      @shanestimac4340 hi Shane, thanks for your questions and comment. To me, Building a foilboard is overwhelming and alot of work. No doubt. Just have to do a little at a time. And be patient and thought out with every decision.
      First step is to get some foam, make or buy the tools needed to shape and shave the foam. And a board stand for shaping it.
      I think i have an ideal size Sup board for you to make. Dm me on instagram and i will help you out with board shape, track placement and getting a design for you.

    Does the foil ever come out of the water near you?

    • @Lanceisoutside
      @Lanceisoutside  Před 7 měsíci

      When i fall? Yes it does. Sometimes i get hit by it. I actually got hit just below my ankle bone on the side of my heel after i fell on the 3rd wave. It hurt so bad i started to shiver and wasn’t sure if i could stand on it. Then caught another wave and felt fine and then got hit on my shin my by paddle blade and then the pain in my foot totally went away hahah. Getting hit by board or foil is rare for me. But it still does happen and will happen. Get good at falling away from the foil.

      @@Lanceisoutside okay, be careful! I'm not really looking to ride in waves the size that you ride... maybe just 1 foot ripples which I guess will be safer for me, especially as a foiling beginner. I'm going to try flat water paddle ups first.
