The way Jinx's character was portrayed is that she is bad luck, an ill omen. Everytime she gets involved everything always ends up badly. Vi and her friends, Jayce's offer for peace, and Silco's life long dream. Except it was different for Silco. He gave up his dreams but it didn't matter. Cause for him, the day he found Jinx was the luckiest day of his life.

My head canon is jinx slowly grew on him.
      With weird things
Maybe it was his birthday and jinx was the only person to celebrate
      He went along with it
Now he keeps the cup she made him on his desk at all times.
Even being in an important meeting shed show him something she made hed always come to see it and if it worked he was proud of her if it didn't he'd tell her shed get it to work.
Eventually a friend ekko maybe came to get her him calling her powder
That triggering something in her causing her to break down.
The moment he finally knew how much she meant to him.
As he was hurting watching her be in distress.
      That gets sorted
Silco makes sure nobody brings powder up
And why he true to kill Vi when she once again brings powder up

Honestly riot could have went the cliché route and have silco be a classic manipulator villain that pretended to love jinx for the extent of his own goals with an equally cliché reveal that he didn’t actually love her in the end and betray her but they totally elevated his character by having him show real love to jinx. Showing vulnerability, fear, and love in subtle and delicate ways really highlighted how human he is and brought him above being a stock villain role.

He had a hard hard time in his early life, got vengeful, loves Jinx as a farther. However he is not really that extraordinary compared to more well thought out litterature.
The build up of his relation with Jinx is very superficial, we don't really in great detail what made then bond.
They are both outcasts, and he took care of her... and then what? He sees some potential in a lunatic inventor. Wow deep.
And he justifies his cold heart and ruthless murders and use of children, and experimenting on other by the fact that he had a hard time, was betrayed and dipped into a river, never to have a second thought about his evil actions.....

I find it funny how people use the "Ugh, he was obviously manipulating her to use her" excuse with Silco, it was so clear as day that while Silco was not a "good guy", but he was the only one to understand Jinx, and to give her the family she needed.
As much as Jinx tried to be "saved" by her sister, it was not on her to be on that side, she kept "jinxing it", and the only one to accept that side of her was Silco.
When she fucked up, when she jinxed it, he didnt turn his back on her, even on his final breath, he still wanted her to accept herself as she was, to free her from the fear of jinxing things again.
Vi expected a sister that would be fine, that could go back to normal, but jinx was never that, thats why she got where she is!.

This is a pretty flawed logic. Accepting someone for causing death and destruction? Should we all also just look at Hitler and "accept him for who he is" Imagine if someone had tried to change him for the better. Silco did not make Jinx the way she is true, but he pushed her towards a worse and worse mindset. How much a parent loves their child matters little when they are shit at parenting.

    • @akaikiseki9346
      @akaikiseki9346 Před 2 lety +13

She kept "jinxing it" because she was so young, not because she had a curse or something. Vi and the others were pushing her beyond what a girl her age could do properly, ofc she failed time and again.
What I don't buy is how Silco is any good to her.
At first he simply wants to off her but then gets the idea of using her somehow. Yes he's nice to her afterward, but that's not how you raise kids to be "okay" in any kind of society. She clearly hasn't had "the talk", seeing as how she straddles Silco without caring. He basically froze her at 11 years old using her sister momentary hate.
Hell even when she's supposed to be perfect she jinxes it again by bombing the Council when shit was miraculously going Zaun's way ! They weren't even asking for Jinx anyway lol
So being nice her at that moment, and keeping her to litteraly split her mentality, and then grooming her into a little killing machine (I forgot he lets her "drown herself" to forget her past, dude's insane in his own right) is nowhere "being a good dad".
It's sickening how everyone just accepts it, even praising it.
I love Jinx and/or Powder, and if Ekko took her to safety after Vi's arrest, Arcane would have been VERY different.
Now what I can buy is that Silco's one hell of a character. Hell they ALL are, but damn. He's so mad everyone just praises him for it. Masterfully crafted.
But that doesn't make him a "good dad", ever. People need to stop blending character writing and their emotions..

I was expecting to hate Silco, I had heard very little about the series but knew he would mess Powder up. But by the end, I was crying over his death and even saw him as a bit of a father figure when it came to myself. I see a lot of myself in Jinx/Powder, some scenes very well mimicking moments of my own life especially with the breakdowns. So seeing the way Silco was, I kept waiting for him to be using Jinx or explode at her, but he never did. Silco genuinely shocked me and works so well. They did incredible with making him realistic. He also creates a wonderful example of mental health. Because we have to remember that he is as mentally ill as jinx, his just isn't psychotic. He repressed and hardened himself after the betrayal, not allowing himself to be loved and Powder was the first real affection he had in a long time. And even when Sevika kills Finn, you can see the terror on his face before he quickly goes back to his usual look, masking his emotions. Even with his one of his most trusted allies, he still feared betrayal because of Vander. He also has a warped sense of reality/point of view due to the trauma of being raised in Zaun and the betrayal and probably more we don't quite know yet. He shows off how mental illness can showcase even in people who are "successful" or less obvious than someone like Jinx. Jinx deals with a lot of psychotic/manic mental health issues while Silco is more depressive or "calm" (for lack of a better word) with his. It shows a lot how trauma can affect people and how mental illnesses/disorders can be. Sometimes they're loud and delusional and psychotic, sometimes they're depressive and avoidant, sometimes they're quiet and well hidden. I could say so much about Silco, but I'll stop here. But Silco turned out to be an incredible character. Well-written, unexpected (I was seriously expecting a typical villain to hate or a sympathetic villain different from this one), a true antagonist without being a detestable villain, and an interesting father being both good and bad (while he does project, he allows Jinx a place to express herself, allow her psychotic emotions to show, and even explain herself without judgement. As someone with psychotic disorders similar to Jinx, I'm very repressed because I've never been allowed to show them so the fact that Jinx can be open/show it without being judged by Silco says a lot, but he also does some stuff wrong clearly but I'ma keep this short cause I'm not gonna really discuss how he is a good/bad father.) He ended up a morally gray and complex character which are usually hated in most fandoms I see (because they're always seen as bad while villains that did far worse get more love), but this fandom does well with talking about Silco. I went from fearing this man to absolutely loving him and crying over his death. And even in his death, he wanted to assure Jinx because he knew she'd blame herself even if it was unintentional. His last moments were to help Jinx with what little he could. That just stuns me.

And the drugs, he didn’t forced anyone to take it. Everyone used the drug at their own self will. Drugs are bad, but the people of zaun took the drugs and accepted it on their own will. They could have simply refused to use it, but they didn’t. Everyone who works for Silco, works there because they wanted to, Silco didn’t have any slaves….
And the girl, bro….. she chose her life, he didn’t do anything to her, only helped her. Every word Silco told to powder makes sense.
Without him supporting her, she could have became something much worse. Imagine your self being the reason for your only family’s death, at that young age, ending up in the street alone. My mind would be fked.
Silco was a true Dad for powder, he loved her.

undercity was also doing pretty well before silco killed the one man who kept everything under control.
Just because he didn't force them to use the drug doesn't mean he is exempt from any responsibility for it, he mass produced the drug while taking advantage of children.
People didnt all work for him of their own volition, we literally see in the first few episodes how he was forcing kids to work for him and take his drugs or he would kill them, those children working for him had no choice it was either they work or they die.

Silco killed Vander because Vander willing to sacrifice peace for her daughter safety , he could have killed Vander any other moment if he wanted but he still respected him until he stopped caring about the lanes. In the end, Silco was just Vander but without children, Vander refused to follow his original path because he was afraid of losing more people, Silco on the other hand, continued on the same path because he had nothing to lose, he wasn't afraid and he knew the results were worth it and in hindsight they were, they didn't have the resources, economy or anything to become a better city, if anything Silco may have saved hundreds of people with shimmer, even if it was at the cost of having secondary effects. Since season 2 will probably have Vander/Silco backstory in it, i hope they cover in more details the story of silco and vander but if you think logically, undercity was in a very bad position, specially after the "revolution" where many people died making undercity even worse, after all we only are shown the "good" part of the undercity, we can see a glimpse of the "bad" parts of undercity (where the shimmer addicts are) but on Vander's leadership is was probably just a graveyard but not because vander's fault but just because that how dire the situation for undercity IS. Silco wasn't the leader they deserved but the one they needed, that's why Sevika was on Silco's side

Then she hit Powder and called her a Jinx because of adrenaline and growing up around violence and probably having some anger issues (so does powder it shows differently), after that realized that that was awful and tried to cool off which Powder understood as abandonment, then Silco comes and hugs her. Then Vi tried to get back to Powder only to be drugged by Marcus and to be taken to prison. It's tragic but I don't think you can blame Vi for everything here because she tried her best and was an immature traumatized 15 year old that was forced to act as a second parent besides Vander for Powder while still being a child herself, there's only so much she can take. Silco then fired at vi because he could see that she was causing Jynx a lot of stress but he missed and Jynx reacted with reflex and shot at the loud noise of the gun killing Silco. Even after Jynx had kneeled in front of him in tears horrified by what she'd done vi still thought that he was bad for her. She still kept on trying to call her powder. Earlier on even Jynx had told vi that powder was dead. She said she fell down a well. But vi was still convinced that powder was still in there. She should have left well enough alone but she didn't. Silco told her, Jynx told her, Silco's assistant told her, ekko told her, cait told her, but she still wouldn't listen she saw it with her own eyes but she still wouldn't listen. Vi wanted powder back not her sister. And she only wanted powder back so that she could apologize and be forgiven so she wouldn't feel guilty anymore. She would have been with Jynx for a week max before she abandoned her because she finally realized that powder is gone and the violent unstable bloodthirsty Jynx was all that was left. So yes I do blame her. Silco accepted Jynx for who she was even when she shot him he still saw her as perfection and he made sure she knew that. And vi hot him killed. The one person who unconditionally loved Jynx for who she was violence and all. And vi just got him killed. So yes I do blame her.
