I think asking the father and even the mother for permission is a good move as if you get the approval of the parents they will like the respect you showed them and if they like you they will encourage the girl you want to ask out to say yes. Not only that but if you plan to marry, your relationship will be that much more smoother if the parents like and support your union and make sure you always remember that when a girl has a problem or wants to talk her mother is usually the first person she goes to so you definitely want her on your side.

What I did is I asked the girl first then if she said yes I then asked her father if he was cool with me dating his daughter. I gained major respect points from her dad after that, and she also respected that and said no man had ever done that before. I was nervous at first but it was worth it.
