One of the most frequently requested videos in the comment section of my videos is what I take with me on a typical day hike. Instead of just listing off a bunch of gear, I decided to divide things up into categories that I make sure I address every time I go out. Thanks for watching!

You have some very high quality gear, and very well thought out. However, I don't think I've ever seen anybody carry so much for a day hike.
I’ve watched a lot, and I mean a lot of gear review videos. I just subscribed. I like Joe Robinet, but honestly, after this specific video, you’re my go-to guy for solid gear consideration with no unnecessary fluff. Well done! I’m not new to this lifestyle, but I’m always watching others to learn from their accomplishments, inventions, and most importantly; their mistakes! Lol
Nice kit. I always carry at minimum enough gear to get me through a overnight trip. You just never know what may happen.
I would be very interested in a full review of the Garmin InReach Mini.
Very solid and comprehensive kit, my friend! Well done.
I can't believe how many reviews are on this product. That Hidden Woodsman guy makes a great product. It appears people just love it.
Thanks for the vid. and YES on the Inreach Mini review!
What is the fascination with the Hidden Woodsmen Day Ruck? I see mention of them EVERYWHERE. Yes, it's a handsome bag, and by all accounts very well made. Please, anyone, make your best compelling argument as to why I might want to get one.
Noticed in one of your coffee videos how organized the interior pockets are in the Hidden Woodsmen. Not buying another pack. But nice.
Informative and enjoyable, thanks
I really enjoyed this video ! Thank you ! I have the Hidden Woodsmen
Haversack and I love it !!
Very comprehensive pack indeed. Perhaps a whistle and a signal mirror ? Cheers
His compass is a sighting compass.
First Aid Kit take on Red pouch with signature Med Kit.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. 👍
Thanks! Very helpful
Excellent video
i keep a list of the contents of each of my bags, in each bag, kinda like a chek list, B 4 i go on a hike i chek my list & bag 2 make sure everything's there
A fellow addict...😎👍I uncontrollably buy lots of ultra lightweight hiking, camping & survival equipment. I can't quit and there is no support groups! Began on a High School Science summer backpacking trip to Rocky Mountains. Living out of a Basecamp @ the school bus & ancillary overnight hikes, living out of a backpack. Best thing the School District ever conducted for students interested in the natural sciences. Lifelong fond memories & was the start to being a gear junkie! Thanks for the revew!
Excellent video great content
Great Loadout review of all the gear im glade i got them Day Ruck side pouches they are awesome i put them on my Dayruck Scout pack
Looks like lots of stuff for a day hike. Plenty of stuff sacks and pouches. I guess you can survive with this a, few days if you get lost.
Though it's still not too overwhelming. If purpose is being in the woods and playing with making fire, cooking outdoors etc then it's a cool kit possibly.
So perfect especially it has a velcro patch field. I wish I own one.
You should add a cover, a poncho takes up little space.
VERY Important
Great video man
Great video. I use a lot of the same equipment. Would love a Garmin In Reach video.
Wow - comprehensive and prepared for anything! It does seem like you have a lot of redundancy - 3 knives, 3 ways to cook, 3 compasses, 3 ways to purify water (incl fire), 5 or 6 fire starters, many pouches, etc. It's the age-old safety vs risk discussion, but I would be curious to see if you could pare that down a bit and still be happy out there. I tend towards a much leaner kit and if a piece of equipment fails - well, it was just a day hike anyway (-:
until the unexpected happens, rather have and not use than not have and need
I saw a bushcraft vid last week his philosophy was one is none 2 is 1 he had 3 of everything his pack was huge must have weighed a ton I just giggled he was only a youngen his gear looked new I wonder how l9ng till the penny drops???
I watched your video and I enjoyed it. Did I miss the food you carry? What type of food do you carry on a day hike?
Thank you very much😎
Too much junk for a summer day hike, unless you are training for a long multi camping trip or hike in the mountains. First, you need to carry on your body a knife, compass & map, Firestarter, and your phone (if out of cell coverage, then the Garmin In reach, hand held UHF/VHF radio, or some other communications device). Some people also carry a small pocket survival kit and signaling device (nylon or silk panel, mirror, and chemlight). If you lose your pack, you need to survive the walk out or until someone comes for you. In your day pack, operative term here is "day", is water (and way to get more), more Firestarter, minimal shelter materials (tarp, cordage, bivy, perhaps a saw), high energy food (not half the pantry), environmental protection (sweater, fleece pullover, rain coat & pants, and small season appropriate sleeping bag if appropriate at all), small first aid kit (not half the emergency room), head lamp or flashlight, and anything else you need to spend the night. You're out there to enjoy nature, not sweat your butt off. If you don't have basic camping and survival skills, go get some. You don't need to carry REI on your back to enjoy a day hike in the woods.
How about a vid on how to make a koozie for a canteen cup?
great video
I liked your thinking about the twig stove using it as a twig stove or alcool stove , if you want a wood fire or not you have a choice..
You can find hidden woodsmen at most rest stops.
More about garmin inreach.
Would love to see a review of your new Garmin product. I’m looking for something, hoping to hike the AT soon
Greetings from Arkansas. Didn't think that looked like Louisiana in the opening sequence. Just 3-4 counties over from me.
My thoughts 2,, didn't think Louisiana had hill's like that 🏕👍🏕
I really need to get me that Keith Ti canteen... I have the Hidden Woodsman Scout pack that I absolutely love but like you, I like bringing gear, even for a day hike. The Scout Pack can hold everything I want to bring with the Mods I added, but Titanium and UL gear is the only way it will be light enough to maintain the needed level of comfort while hiking. Really need that Orange pouch from Malcoms collection too! #gear #addict lol
Talk about overpacking! A day hike for me is run out of a haversack. My Dayruck is easily a weekend appliance. I use it around town more than for day hikes.
Thankfully I am from the other side of the pond where hunting is carried out responsibly and I do not need to deck myself in bright orange. All the best.
So you don’t have hunting accidents across the pond?
Nice Vlog, I am an Arkansas Doc as well. where did you get that ruck back pack?
Just ordered this pack. I bought a frost river isle royale and it was incredibly uncomfortable. I hope this one is better!
WOW , that's a serious Day Rucksack. I would call it a small backpack. I don't pack as much but have the basics covered. All of it's in a Mountain Smith Day (13 liter ) Lumber pack. I find it very comfortable since there aren't any shoulder straps to interfere with my implanted Defibrillator/Pacer. ( right collar bone area )
It's funny because the comments on this video are either a) you packed WAY too much stuff, or b) You moron, you forgot this and this and this LOL. I appreciate your comment and admit that I carry alot, but that's my preference. You carry less, and just what you need! Thanks for the input, and thanks for watching!
My Titanium Nano and Trangia burner is My Favorite Gear...
Almost the same here. I have the Titanium Nano gen 2 and as a substituent heat source the Evernew Titanium burner. The Evernew burner will fit inside the bottom section of the Trangia alcohol gel burner when using the two rods.
Small can of jell (sterno) works 4 me ♨️
Where did you get the side pouches from though?
The term bushcraft still makes me LMAO .
I haven't carried a rucksack since I was in the army. I shall never carry an alice pack or an m60 again Amen. I can show you how to make a hashpipe out of a 90 degree flashlight.
In 1980, it was a stoner Army at Ft. Ord.
👍🍻👍
Dayhike?
18 liter backpack (Red)
Thermos filled with tea
Bananas
Few protine bars
Lighter
Phone
Spaceblanket wih a few windings of ducttape
Waterproof matches in waterproof container
Paracord bracelet
LMF firesteel
Mini 1 aaa flashlight
Miniscule fishingkit
Swiss army knife
Foldable foam thingy to sit on.
That's all.
Thanks for showing.
I realize that every jurisdiction is different, but is there any insurance plan available to cover the cost of an evacuation called in by an Inreach? Do the SAR organizations charge for this?
There is additional insurance you can pay with the subscription that covers I believe up to $50,000 out of pocket for an evacuation. Very affordable, $1.50 a month extra
Excellent question.
Heck I’ll just travel with u and I don’t need to carry anything
Too lot of technologies. I basically use nature for tools and food even in deadly deserts. And I upgraded my brain sensor systems to navigation))
And that works.. until it doesn't.
When you have family waiting at home one owes it to them to take every precaution... IMHO.
The Best and the Brightest can find themselves in unexpected situations.
Where do you learned to talk so fast?
Hey are you willingly to sell your side pouches to this pack im willingly to pay $45 dollars for each. Which is more than what you paid initially and you have to remember you paid for it three years ago and you are still getting full price for it.
Don't know man...nothing new here
Humm I don't see any coat or hat or gloves on you. No bed roll sleeping bag. No axe. That pack looks a little small for things you might. Need if perhaps your day hike unexpectedly turns into a hike for you life.
Daniel Hines I was going to say the same. Here in the UK I would have waterproof jacket and trousers, hat, gloves and a fleece. Also spare food, map compass and whistle. I would usually need at least a 30 litre pack.
John McLean yes it’s more like a walk in the garden pack 😂
@@johnmclean5957 well, like they say,,, better 2 have it & not need it than 2 need it & not have it..🏕.. boy scout Motto.. be prepared..
Because 💩 happens
NGL Long into scared me away. Sorry.
You just has double equipment and so double weight also
Long ass intro
Very good content, but my 🧠 hurts from trying to comprehend your faaaaaast talk. Less coffee?
Coffee on a day hike? Lost me.
It seems you have a lot of “stuff” - what does that pack weigh? “Saw/axe for fire processing”??? On a day hike? Really? Is this more like a zombie apocalypse bug out bag?
Bushcraft is just an expensive EDC addon hobby now lol
