Il fesait vraiment un temps effroyable en cette période sans toutefois oublié les périodes belliqueuses..mais malgré tout ces rebondissements,les coureurs fort et acharnés ont pu bravé les sinuosités et les dangerosité de ces terrains cauchemardesque...cet entrain à toujours vouloir pédalé deux roues sous ses conditions aussi épouvantable temoigne donc de la hargne et de la détermination de tout ces coureurs en ces moments là..... comme on les appelle souvent,ce sont de véritables baroudeurs et j'ai beaucoup d'admiration pour ces athlètes

Dans les années ´30, après plus d'une décennie de disette Leducq gagne en ´31, les sélections sont nationales et le public parfois chauvin conspue parfois les étrangers, mais l'image qui reste est celle d'un cyclisme qui est entré dès ´29 et ´30 dans une nouvelle ère... qui débouchera sur les tout grands, Bartali, Coppi, Bobet, Kubler, Koblet. Ce qui suivra est une autre histoire...
C'était les forças de la route. Hommage.

The stages were incredibly long in those days,today l believe that the Tour is about 30% shorter than pre war days.
The first tours (30 years before this one) were essentially ultra-endurance events.
I believe it was the 1927 or 28 TDF that was double today's distance?
Still and to this day cycling remains unchanged; the best man wins! - save that today the best woman wins as well.

Conditions were grueling in the old days they didn't have a lot of gears they must have been men of iron..

I don't see support cars. How did the riders handle punctures? Patch them on the road by themselves?
Yes riders in those days were responsible for their own bike issues, punctures,mechanical & were limited to how much liquids they cud carry on each stage so it wasn't uncommon to get handouts from spectators or even the local bar for refreshments..crazy days but quiet normal back then..

Two actually. In mountain stages they had a back wheel with different gears on either side. At the bottom and the top they halted to flip the wheel around.
