My Dad passed today, I was going to head over to his place to see him and help him out. He was fine when I called when I was leaving but as I was heading over to his place the water was so much and so dangerous. I called him and told him I can't make it, it was not safe to travel. He said it was fine and that I could come over tomorrow. 3 hours later he was dead. I miss my dad so much, I really regret not seeing him before he passed. :(

It’s unfortunate that Toronto has not learned its lessons about severe rainfall as it relates to the lower part of the don valley, union station and the gardiner… these types of rainfalls are going to be more common as time goes on, so what’s the plan?
The plan is to spend millions on rushing mixed cocktail drinks in cans to grocery stores, instead of spending it on provincially owned roads like the DVP and the Gardiner expressway.

As time goes on? Srsly? Cloudbursts are a normal summertime thing in the GTA. What's NOT normal is spending money on pride parades and street name changes while no maintenance is done on the storm drain system, as in keeping it plug free to begin with.

Absolutely! I live in Niagara and remember the flood back in 2014 when we visited Toronto. Water snakes and all. I remember being underground in the PATH and flooding forcing us up into the Eaton Centre. It was an unimaginable amount of rainwater. It was right in the middle of July; too!

@RobzdaBlade you can in theory seed clouds but not for such big systems, and it's minimal effect. But if it was possible on this scale you do realize the rain has to fall somewhere as the system is moving, for hours.... so you are suggesting flooding somewhere upstream of GTA ? In the US ?

This mayor looks she's ready to sleep why do we have people who have no vision like why in a sudden rainfall it just flood the city. They should look into how Japan built the world's largest underground flood water diversion facility, built to mitigate overflowing of the city's major waterways and rivers during rain and typhoon seasons. They should be planning this ahead of time because the weather has changed.

Most home insurance covers "Act of God" insurance. These people shouldn't be blaming the government but themselves for being ignorant to the fact on where, and if their homes would be affected by such events caused by no direct human action but then again its easier to find a scapegoat than to really think in depth/ have foresight on things that will affect them.

Its almost like water flows downward with gravity? Imagine building a mansion or something important at a low point and being surprised when water accumulates there. Things like this range in occurrence in many diff places in intervals of like 5-20 years, even 100.....if something crazy is going to happen every so often why on earth would you invest in that type of risk?
